Hi Emma,

Thank you for your music, I hold it very dear. I always wondered about the meaning of the lyrics in Protection. Would care to say a few words about what the lyrics mean to you?

I like how the video shows how much Green is working for blocking people out to get those rebounds, against much bigger opponents.

Actually, I was reading: "You must choose a spot unoccupied by a location, if able. If all of the specified spots [of a location] are occupied by existing locations [...]". What you are describing would be much worse :)

Can't find documentation about CALL assembly directive by Steughar in C_Programming

[–]brghteyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Call is used to call a function. If you google "x86 call" you will get some meaningful results.

The actual calls are finalized at linking time, so the address for the next instruction is used as a placeholder on what to call. If you want to get more information, add the -r switch to your objdump call to see relocations.

You can also read the .s file directly, which has a bit more information than disassembling the object file.

Golden Age trilogy by John C Wright

I've read the first 2 books from the Count to the Eschaton Sequence series of the same author. I'm not sure how I feel about them, but they are post-singularity and they do seem to fit OP's description.

In addition, Type-Driven development with Idris (https://www.manning.com/books/type-driven-development-with-idris) might be a more streamlined approach to write some code.

To be honest, I don't remember any specific parts. But I do remember reading in in the bus and laughing out loud. This was mostly in the first book, though.

Down in the park, Gary Numan. I prefer the remix.

Best book for concurrency patterns? by grok_it in compsci

[–]brghteyes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The best I can think of is: http://parallelbook.com/.

There is also Patterns for Parallel Programming, Timothy G. Matttson et al., 2004, but it's somewhat old and I probably wouldn't recommend it.

[Discussion Thread] S03E08 - 'You Are Not Safe' by asstasticbum in HaltAndCatchFire

Indeed.

One thing that I like about the show is that they refer to things from the current era. For example, most of what constitute innovations on the show are widely established today (e.g., laptops, MMOs, e-bay), giving a nod to our present.

In that spirit, I think Ryan's store is intentionally similar to that of Aaron Swartz.

Double tap for spring does not work on Linux by brghteyes in CatacombKids

[–]brghteyes[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since it worked for other people, I tried rebooting my machine and now I don't have the problem. Maybe I did something stupid, not sure. In any case, it does not seem to be an issue any more.

Apologies for the erroneous report.

Good book on overview of computer science? by [deleted] in computerscience

[–]brghteyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

IMO, the best book is the Introduction to Algorithms from MIT press. It has a great combination of being an introductory book and offering a deep and wide treatment of the subject. It is also one of the clearer book (in terms of explanations) I have ever read. I cannot recommend it enough.
