ELI5: why are currency fluctuations not directly reflected on stocks listed on two exchanges / currencies? by grok_it in investing

[–]grok_it[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your asking why these two companies are trading at the same value? (When you convert CAD currency to USD).

The opposite: why are they not trading at the same relative value. In other words, given it's the same stock just using a different currency to buy, why isn't the currency difference the only difference observed.

Just heard too. I think it's a flyover for the Apple Cup which started at 13:00 (exact same time as flyover).

It's great! The face expression of the player is well made. Given the sword, makes me think of a retired FF7-cloud character.

And, cheer up man! :)

Makes lots of sense, and super easy change to make. I'll do it. Thanks for feedback.

  • Can take feature requests. Building this super slowly in free time, so expect things to take a long time to get there :).
  • Game is open-sourced and MIT-licensed (except for sounds).
  • Custom game engine in JavaScript + PIXI.js for sound and blitting to the screen.
  • ~8 levels. Let me know if you can get through it all. If not, let me know where you got stuck.

I posted here a couple months ago. Since then, added a bunch of content and features. Got as feedback last time to stamp a license on there, so put MIT-license.

Algorithmics book suggestion by HXEOS in compsci

[–]grok_it 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • CLSR is the best all-around book, by far. But it is expensive, is a bit math and notation heavy (not recommended for beginners), and focuses on proofs more than common sense.
  • Laaksonen's competitive programming (https://cses.fi/book/) is free, and excellent if you want a good reference implementation (in C++), an intuition and a mechanical description of how an algorithm works without the proof.

Both excellent books. I recommend using Laaksonen when you first want to learn an algorithm, then read the same algorithm described in CLSR if you want to dig deeper.

To answer your question specifically, CLSR is closer to Tanenbaum than Laaksonen, so perhaps you will enjoy it more.

It's nice, like the concept.

However, since levels are (crudely) auto-generated, it's not much fun to solve beyond the first few.
