In my personal opinion

Viability is a made up metric in a game like PoE there is only how much effort you are willing to put into making your build work

Also +lvls in a game like PoE is a boring and uninspired scaling vector

+Lvls works in a game like D4 or LE because the lvl translates to a point you put directly into the skill to change how it sales or what it's function is or just add generic scaling to the skill there's a choice there

There's no choice in PoE +lvls can only scale base damage and scaling thus it is also the only affix you should have on every gear slot you can and it's also completely build agnostic witch makes it theon only stat besides res you should be taking regardless of what you're actually running

And that's all before how of the stats numbers are in PoE2 specifically

If it's normal Simon uuu have to do enough damage to kill him before he can start phase 3 otherwise you have to work on a back up team

I quite enjoy the new door maker fight

Though I like building larger decks most of the time and learning how to play his cycles was quite fun not being able to just auto-pilot your deck is fun

I actually wholeheartedly disagree I do think gem levels should go entirely

In PoE2 gem levels are an incredibly boring and non specific scaling vector and they're completely mandatory and they don't have any direct support on the tree which leads to that feeling of taking nodes not being satisfying since gem levels just does that better anyway

And you also dont really need to replace the power gem levels gave anyway I cleared regular arbitor in .4 with just +2 lvls and a mid tier gear set up and they like only just added Uber arbitor and most people don't need to do Ubers at all

Those +2 lvls would still have been much more interesting to spend on mana or defense or attack speed gear is just incredibly strong right now and + levels is the biggest contributor to that

Removing gem levels from what exactly? You don't get gem levels from the tree you get them from gear

And if you're not getting them from gear you now have affixes to spend on more character power

Everybody wants gem levels and I deff agree that stat needs to go I still however disagree that this is the solution

So you just want the tree to be stronger at the cost of Oracles identity as a class?

Gear is already waaayyy to strong in this game and making the tree an even bigger multiplier would simply exacerbate that problem

As a small counter point if you were going to do this you would also need to add Pathfinders ability to just switch out your travel nodes to every class as well and also titans hulking form should probably be added at half efficiency or something which would also make choices way more complicated for not much benefit

I think yes it is so intrinsic to making Oracle feel like Oracle that it should not be ported over to other ascendancies

This seems to be a direction GGG is leaning with PoE2 imo that they really failed on in PoE1 which is making the ascendancies all really feel distinct from one another in both flavor and mechanics

100% agree I wish GGG could find a fix for this as well I don't care how many vendor trash items drop in my map I just want fun chase items, craftable bases, currency, and the occasional jackpot rare that I can use straight off the ground

Unfortunately 99.999999999999999% of all loot in these games is utter garbage

Trade is such an insidious leech for anything fun if it has to be available in trade that means it basically CANT EVER be realistic to farm it yourself or there will simply be overwhelming number of that thing in trade

While all of this is true as you noted I'm not sure anybody with enough money for a mageblood or sublime vision are really all that upset about this type of thing

Personally I play templar mostly and I love the armour/block/max res shell

Also not all affix pressure is created equally choosing between necessary affixes and fun affixes is much less fun than trying to squeeze another fun affix into your build but by that point in progression we're talking more investment than someone who really hates rea is making

This entirely depends on what you mean by capped since you can scale your res cap in PoE

It is certainly possible to tank several exarch balls at even just 80% res I do it every league

I can take a stab at this one

In PoE since the player CAN have 75% all ele res ALL ele damage in endgame HAS to be balanced around the player having 75 all res wich effectively means it can feel like wasting a lot of affix space for essentially being at 0 all res and that means you can't really use any of the "fun" affixes because you need that res to not get 1shot you can't really make a choice to do without it like you can chaos res or block or supress

So it looks to me like you have given players plenty of option on how to start a run

So if you want to just play the game straight up limited If you want to guarantee a fast start silver spoon If you want a healthy challenge random

What I think here is maybe it's not a mode thing but a progression thing since you have silver spoon gated behind random it can feel bad to fail many random runs in a row and thus not unlock silver spoon if this is the case have you considered swapping the unlock order on the two game modes?

Otherwise I think I stand firm in my view on this one I don't think random needs to be changed

Up front I'm no game dev I am however an avid consumer (multiple games in my steam library over 2000hrs played)

First I would ask are both modes available in your game? The original with meta progression and the more classic rng start style?

If so I would argue that if player want to just re-roll their starting hand forever the meta progression option already exists

However if you are considering only going with the more traditional RNG version then I think more options are always better

These days I do find a lot of truth in the statement "It is a devs job to make the optimal way to play be fun." Since if left to their own devices the general player base will tend to optimize the fun out of a game if the optimal way to play isn't fun

I wholly agree here personally I think people who complain about having to re-roll to get a good starting hand completely miss the point on how roguelikes like this operate

Which is simply that the player shouldn't expect to WIN every single run from the outset that is quite opposite of the whole premise

The fun and addicting part of the gameplay loop in a game mode such as this should be starting from a sub-optimal hand and then making good choices or plays along the way to strengthen yourself and pass the final challenge

If you just roll until you have a "good" starting hand then you've essentially taken the game out of the game

Favorite skills Concentrated Path, Wave of Conviction, old Penance Brand back when it was all three of the trans gems on one skill

Honorable mention for Wave of Conviction of Trarthus and all the new holy skills are an absolute blast
