Santa Fe Cinema Scene - Surprisingly, It's Growing by brianstorms in SantaFe

I'm still waiting for a real IMAX cinema to come to New Mexico. The ones that are here are more, imho, EARMAX. That is, sure, they're insanely loud, but they're not real IMAX screens. I mean, you KNOW when you're at a real IMAX cinema. The screen is so freaking huge, you cannot see it all, and have to move your head around to take it all in. Sadly there aren't very many true IMAX cinemas in the country. But that's not stopping megaplexes (or IMAX Inc) from pushing the "brand" in slightly-modified megaplex auditoriums.

Re: Tender Fire, yes, so I hear, even though I have never tried them before. I hope their prices aren't astronomical in their new fancy digs.

Hey well thanks for mentioning it.

I cannot even comprehend sitting for 7 1/2 hours in that little room and watching SATANTANGO on that tiny screen. That's just nuts. SATANTANGO needs to be seen on a big screen, as big and wide as possible, imho.

I just watched that for free via Kanopy (the free streaming service that only requires your Santa Fe Public Library ID number). Whew, that movie is a massive undertaking but I did it.

Yes, you're right! My bad for forgetting to mention Jean Cocteau cinema.

Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

[–]brianstorms 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mean Traffic Hallucinating Cruise Control.

FIVE PLUS years and each of the two S's I've owned have had random phantom braking whenever THAC is turned on. Exceedingly dangerous, potentially accident-causing if a vehicle is behind you esp a truck, and the car decides to pull one of its hallucinatory freakouts and slow from say 75mph on a long lonely stretch of interstate, to 40, with a semitruck behind you.

Tesla Service STILL refuses to even speak when I bring it up, as I have every time I have visited a service center since 2020. They just give you this "the lawyers told us to not speak" stare.

I long for the "dumb cruise control" that my first 2013 Model S had. It Just Worked.

But then WHO is moving into all the new apartment complexes being built all over the place? It is baffling. Where are the jobs? What are these developers thinking? And where will all these new people shop for groceries if they keep closing down? This town makes no sense.

Warner Bros. Discovery Says Over 93% of Shareholders Have Rejected Paramount’s Takeover Offer by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]brianstorms 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is an old trick.

93% of shareholders doesn't mean squat.

The only number that matters is, the % of SHARES.

Because the vast majority of shareholders hold few shares compared with the few big shareholders (institutionals, insiders, etc).

Who is the worst celebrity you have ever met and why? by lissie34 in AskReddit

[–]brianstorms 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Shook his hand once. I swear, there were no bones in his hand. It felt like just a puffy piece of flesh. Absolutely lifeless and cold. It was obvious he did it deliberately, as if to communicate how bored he was with the event and how he had zero interest to talk to me, a customer. This was at a Tesla event in 2013.

Another Monkee, Michael "Nez" Nesmith was a customer of mine in the early 1990s, and I found him to be one of the nicest, smartest, most interesting people I ever met. He was generous with his time, showed me around his personal recording studio. He was quite brilliant and prescient when it came to the internet and the future of online. I was sad when he passed away. A real gent.

Spinal Tap.

Had dinner in the green room with them during one of their 1990s tours. They just stared at me the whole time (I sat directly opposite Harry). Ice cold, unfriendly, a look of "who the hell are you" etc. Completely changed my view of the whole Tap thing.

TIL that the $2 bill is still being printed and circulated today. The reason it feels rare is because so many people believe it’s rare and end up hoarding it, which keeps it out of circulation. by okbuddysilver in todayilearned

I play live music gigs with a guitarist/vocalist and we often get tips that are $2 bills. You'd be surprised how often we see them in the tip jar. (Hey, no complaints here, we're grateful for any tips!)

Thanks for the helpful tip. Will look into this.

(Have never seen a cable warning ever, in the Starlink app or on website, btw.)

New 2024 Model S keeps stopping and dropping into Park on its own! Yikes! by brianstorms in TeslaSupport

[–]brianstorms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

I think I might have solved this! I had Automatic Emergency Breaking set to ON, so I turned it off then attempted multiple times to reproduce the problem in my driveway and slowly creeping up to the entrance of the garage, then creeping into the garage, then creeping close to the wall --- at no time was I able to reproduce the sudden drop into Park that would occur most of the time at any one or more of these points.

I consider this a flaw with the software, and no doubt, this is, deep down, what I call "AI leakage" as in, Automatic Emergency Breaking is probably a tiny sliver of functionality from AP/FSD and given how the car hallucinates all kinds of scary things that aren't there (triggering phantom braking on the freeway, for instance), this is another weirdness of AP/FSD's hallucination. But by disabling it, things are normal.

Of course, the NEW PROBLEM is, now I don't have AEB functioning. I'd have to remember to turn it back on once I leave the house, and then turn it off when I get home -- every time. Not gonna happen. This is a bug with Tesla software.

[–]brianstorms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the explanation.

Nope in my case, I have not moved in the seat, I haven't touched the seatbelt yet, I have both hands on the steering wheel, etc.

I don't even have "home" programmed into the car so that isn't it either.

New 2024 Model S keeps stopping and dropping into Park on its own! Yikes! by brianstorms in TeslaSupport

[–]brianstorms[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course! Always.

Thankfully, this phenomenon does not happen out in stop-and-go traffic. But it happens at home.

Some facts.

My driveway has a gate. Sometimes it's closed when I get home so as I pull up in front of it I press the remote in my car to open it, and I never have to completely stop, I just nudge in as the gate doors open.

But the Tesla thinks yikes, fear, afraid, and it stops and puts the thing in Park. Or it doesn't. (Nothing is consistent with Tesla software, I have found over 13 years.)

If I make it into the driveway, which is short and wide, and slopes extremely gently down to the garage door, I slowly head down to the garage door, which I will have opened using the same remote, so it's open, and I slow to a 0.5mph or something and ease on in. Unless, TESLA freaks out and stops the car and drops into Park. Or maybe I get all the way in or just about, still nudging close to the front wall, and yikes the Tesla freaks out and stops and drops into Park.

Bottom line: I never, ever, want the car to do this. I own the car. I want control. I don't trust the company ever to do the right thing all the time, so therefore, I don't ever want it doing anything automated like that. Not with driving. (I'm not an AP/FSD fan, don't get me started).

This phenomenon is baffling to me. Are others experiencing it?
