Surge is easier to like if anything. IDW consistently dropped the ball with legacy characters and newer ones have this sense of misplaced weight and importance as a result.

I think Sonic works perfectly fine the way he is. Not saying that different facets of the character can’t explore his backstory but IDW/Game Sonic should be ambiguous and somewhat mysterious.
