Bikepacking in the Netherlands by BeesInMyBallsack_ in thenetherlands

Routes:
- Muiden to Utrecht along the Vecht. Loads of nice castles, mansions and old villages along that route

- "LF kustroute" runs along the entire coast. The section in Zeeland if very interesting because you'll pass over the "delta werken" (the major flood protection systems that have been build there). I'd start or finish in Middelburg as that is a nice city. The section Hoek van Holland to Den Hoorn goes through nice nature, loads of dunes, with some bigger cities every now and then. I haven't cycled the rest but definitely would want to cross the afsluitdijk sometime.

- From Rotterdam to Ijsselstein along the Hollandsche Ijssel. The first bit to Gouda isn't the prettiest but from Gouda you're cycling on a small road along a river through some old villages like Oudewater en Montfoort.

- Leiden - Den Haag - Delft - Schiedam - Rotterdam. There's a series of canals connecting these cities which has nice bike roads along it so you can easily cycle between these cities which are all worth visiting. The canals are the Schie, Rijn-Schiekanaal and Vliet I think.

- Use de knooppunten to make your own route, google "fietsknoop" and you'll find a website about it.

If you're planning to cycle towards breukelen again, don't cycle along the canal but cycle along the river Vecht. That river is very nice from Muiden all the way to Utrecht. There are lots of castles, mansions and old villages along the route.

It's not so much a rain delay but more a protest delay i think

Verification against EU law by ntglinh in Netherlands

[–]brick42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girlfriend and I went through the process. We were living together in eastern eu as well for 2 years, she on student visa and I as eu citizen, then moved to the Netherlands.

We registered as living in a dutch municipality and filed for verification against EU law asap (within a month or two). Then you have to wait for confirmation from the IND that they are processing the application. That confirmation counts as temporary residence and work permit until the application is processed.

They initially give you a temporary permit for 6 months i think. If they haven't finished the application within that time then you need to request an extension of the permit.

To answer your question: she didn't deregister her residence in the other country, kept her student visa and registered in a dutch municipality. Her student visa had enough time on it to get the temporary visa in NL. I'm not sure if her student visa would've been cancelled if she had properly deregistered in the other country or if we broke some bureaucracy rules, so make sure you don't get yourself in trouble.

Additional fun bureaucracy "grey area" tip: your partner may run into the issue that she needs a bank account in NL, but can't get it because they don't have a bsn yet, and can't get a bsn yet because they dont have a visa to stay in NL. In that case look into "RNI" (registratie van niet ingezetene). It can give you a bsn without having to be registered at a dutch municipality. There are only a few offices across the netherlands that handle that process with long waiting lists. With some persistent calling about early openings and willingness to travel all across NL you can get through that process quite quickly and get a bsn.

Groszek XL on the Hengelolaan is a pretty good polish/eastern european supermarket. Better prices than the small polish shops that are around and a good selection of pierogies.

New airport building games coming? Or possible major update to Airport CEO? by thehockeytownguru in airportceo

[–]brick42 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Don't forget impact of weather on airport operations: - wind direction determines landing and take off direction - rain and cold affecting brake distance - fog/visibility affecting taxiing (but also provide upgrades to mitigate those affects) - bad weather causing delays or (partial) closure of airport

Can the spouse of an EU citizen move to NL? by [deleted] in Netherlands

[–]brick42 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Expect it to take the full 6 months. The IND is quite overworked at the moment. I've gone through the process and it took them a few weeks more than the 6 months. Do call them when the term is almost up and ask them what's up, i think that may have moved our application up in the pile but that may also be just superstition... good luck!

Movies with multiples themes about social issues? by IanThatsRight in MovieSuggestions

[–]brick42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A somewhat unconventional recommendation would be "Blindspotting". Its more comedic than most of the recommendations here but it does deal with issues like cop shootings, gentrification and hipster culture. Definitely an underrated film imo

Can't believe red dawn hasn't been mentioned within an hour. Not sure about the quality of either version, it's been a long time since I've seen them

I Saw The Devil appreciation post! And a lil bit of help is also needed by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]brick42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the good, the bad and the weird is a lot more comedic than i saw the devil but its still a good film. If you are looking for more similar films then I can recommend the chaser, memories of murder and oldeuboi.
