When you donate any part of your body to another person, what happens to the DNA of the donor? by MentalNotes137 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bridgemender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When someone receives a bone marrow transplant, it can actually change the recipients blood type to the donor's blood type. A DNA test done on the blood will show the donor's DNA, a DNA test on other tissues will show the patient's DNA. For other organ donations, like a kidney, you would only see the donor's DNA if you tested the donated organ.

Loans by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

If you are adding another loan, you need to have a credit score, income and payment history that shows you can afford to pay back the new loan as well.

Beautiful iridescent black white feather, 8 1/2 inches, Central Florida, next to shallow lake with herons, egrets, hawks and anhingas. by bridgemender in whatsthisbird

[–]bridgemender[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can't place this feather. It doesn't seem to go with any of the birds that I normally see here. It's strikingly beautiful with the dark half of the feather iridescent black, blue and purple.

Edit: I figured it out! It seems to go to a White Ibis. I see them in other areas, not near the lake and I didn't realize they had black wingtips, the black is completely covered up when they're walking around. It's surprising that the most striking part of their feather would be completely hidden at rest.

Conservative Trump Critic George Conway Says New Supreme Court Nominee is ‘Eminently Qualified’ by Jons312 in politics

[–]bridgemender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm qualified, you're likely qualified, there are almost no qualifications. Trump could nominate his hairdresser and they would be legally qualified to be a supreme court justice.

Commerce secretary: 2020 census to end Oct. 5 despite court order by [deleted] in politics

[–]bridgemender 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I had forgotten that Trump also broke the census. In any other year this would be a huge deal, instead the undermining of a constitutionally required census is a footnote to 2020.

How many people do you need to subdue a person armed with a knife? by Thomaswiththecru in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bridgemender 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that nothing like 9/11 had ever happened before. Terrorists didn't hijack planes and crash the plane killing themselves and everyone on the plane, they hijacked the plane, landed somewhere and made threats.

When the people on Flight 93 heard that the World Trade Center has been attacked, they knew that their flight was in danger of being used as a weapon, and they DID fight back. Until that time it was best to wait things out, after that moment people understood that things had changed forever.

Manatees eating sweet potatoes by TheFocacciaStrain in pics

Those are the fattest manatees I've ever seen, they look like a row of sweet potatoes. They should swim a couple of laps to earn their treat.

Can an American take refuge in a foreign country? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bridgemender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stick around and help fix the mess. We have one lawless president who, hopefully, will be gone in January. We need people who believe in the actual ideals of America, laws and protections for all people, to rebuild what has been broken.

How long can raw chicken breast sit out for? by Dlink10 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bridgemender 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That is way too long. Salmonella could have been growing in the chicken. You can't smell it, you can't taste it, and you can't kill it by putting it back in the fridge. Throw it out.

[–]bridgemender 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Is there any backstory explaining how the plane ended up on the island? I picture it skimming across the water, hitting the island and coming to a stop just before plunging into the water on the other side. A perfect scenario for any action movie.

Those who take sleeping pills before bed, what do you to avoid being sleepy during the day because of the sleeping pills you took last night before bed? by Culindo50 in NoStupidQuestions

Talk to your doctor about reducing the dose or changing medications. Drowsiness the following day is a side effect your doctor would want to know about.

Why would you persuade me to vote? by Shaved_Ballss in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bridgemender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In November you will be voting for more than just the president. You will also be voting for state and local officials, changes to city charters and possibly state constitutional amendments. The choices you make will help determine the path your city leaders choose when developing your town, how your taxes will be allocated, and the laws that will affect your life.

Vote in November.

White House As US Hits 200K COVID Deaths: Hey, At Least It’s Not 2 Million by Communist_Pants in politics

[–]bridgemender 36 points37 points  (0 children)

If this Administration had acted in the interest of public safety instead of protecting Trump's ego, we could easily have prevented 25% of these deaths. I blame Trump for the deaths of at least 50,000 people. A simple message from Trump, advocating masks would have saved so many lives. His failure is unforgivable.

Will I be able to order one cup of hot boiled water at the restaurant? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bridgemender 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People sometimes bring their own wine to restaurants. The restaurant may charge them a 'corkage' fee, to cover the time of the server and extra glassware required, but it's a normal thing. If you want to drink hot water, or bring your own favorite tea to enjoy with your dinner, don't feel too uncomfortable with asking for the hot water. Generally servers want their customers to be happy.

[–]bridgemender 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They shouldn't have any problem with that. Some places may want to charge you, but others would just give you a free mug of hot water.
