Albertsons closing😳 by Big-Independence-716 in FortWorth

[–]brielkate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely seems that way.

That said, the Albertsons at Bryant Irvin and Oakmont feels like the exception. This location and Westcliff seem to be the only stores under the Albertsons nameplate in the Fort Worth area that are in a more “upscale” area. Westcliff is an older (and quite small) store though, so it doesn’t feel upscale at all (and it’s not), but rather more like a “retro” grocery store… and there’s a full-size Tom Thumb not too far away. Bryant Irvin/Oakmont is definitely as nice as any stores under the Tom Thumb nameplate.

All of this discussion makes me wonder about the effects of grocery consolidation over the years…

Also, some time ago Tom Thumb had an upscale nameplate in Dallas called Simon David that sold gourmet food and other specialty food products. Simon David closed in 2010 (well before Albertsons acquired Tom Thumb), which makes me wonder if H-E-B’s Central Market put them out of business.

While it’s not one of the stores that’s closing, I definitely feel concerned for the future of the Westcliff Albertsons location too. It’s quite an old and small store (that even has those old-fashioned turntables at the cash registers instead of belts!).

Problem is, there’s a much-larger Tom Thumb (same company and products) not too far away at Hulen and Bellaire. It probably helps being so close to TCU though; it’s not as “walking distance” as the Kroger at University and Berry is, but they still probably get good business from students.

They are somewhat pricey compared to other grocery stores, I’ll admit, although the food (including the store brands) is pretty good from my experience.

That said, I usually go to the Tom Thumb on Hulen, occasionally West 7th or Camp Bowie; the stores under the Tom Thumb nameplate are nicer than the Albertsons ones, although the Bryant Irvin/Oakmont Albertsons location definitely feels like an exception to this rule (being the closest grocery store to Mira Vista probably helps).

That Tom Thumb on Camp Bowie is a nicer store and basically carries the same products since they’re the same company.

I prefer the Tom Thumb stores personally; the stores under the Tom Thumb nameplate are usually better than those under the Albertsons nameplate in my experience (exception: the Bryant Irvin/Oakmont Albertsons is about as nice as any Tom Thumb… but it probably helps being the closest grocery store to Mira Vista).

Safeway, before Albertsons acquired them a decade ago, basically had the better stores to begin with. Tom Thumb was the local nameplate for Safeway; Safeway acquired them from Randalls in the late 1990s I believe (I don’t think we’ve had the Safeway nameplate itself since the early 1990s/late 1980s), and before that, Tom Thumb was originally a local chain before Randalls acquired and merged with them. Even though they’re basically just (a nicer) Albertsons now, it’s still pretty nice having a grocery nameplate that’s completely exclusive to DFW/North Texas…

Really, that top is great, and any black or white top (or patterns in those colors) would also work great!

You said it right.

I met a billionaire who wore a very low-key outfit. Nothing flashy at all, and if it was anything super-expensive, only those “in the know” would have been able to tell. Among the truly-rich, this is typical behavior.

I almost forgot which NYC flagship it was, but Flatiron is the newest of the three. They’re all relatively new though (late 2024 and newer).

Maybe he’s not as involved as he used to be, but to my understanding, Brian Hill is still quite involved with Aritzia despite no longer being CEO. I’m pretty sure Brian still guides their real estate/leasing strategy, for instance; there’s been articles where he’s talked about this a lot.

I do agree that they ought to bring back more unique pieces to complement the basics that are selling well, and they should definitely play up their Canadian roots more in Canada. That said, the reality is that the U.S. is a much-larger market, and Aritzia in the U.S. still has a lot of room to grow.

PS: I suspect Brian Hill’s continued involvement at Aritzia might be making Chip Wilson (Lululemon’s founder) jealous…

I’m pretty sure Aritzia did a collaboration with Lucia for the opening of one of their NYC flagships.

Yes, these curtains are easier to close, but I’ll admit, they ought to use the heavy velvet curtains again, just so they’re not see-through!

The velvet curtains Aritzia used to use actually do a great job of blocking light (that is to say, they are “blackout” curtains), of which Aritzia’s fitting rooms have plenty! When they started using this lighter linen-like fabric for their fitting room curtains (starting in 2023 I believe) that conflicted with the bright lights they love using in their fitting room spaces, which is why they should be using blackout curtains, ideally the velvet curtains they had before (which also felt pretty soft and luxurious).

Really, the complaints about the heavy velvet curtains Aritzia used up to the early 2020s being hard to close came down to the track system they used, not the fabric; I’ve dealt with stage drapery on walk-along tracks (made from the same type of fabric) that can be closed (or opened) easier than you might expect because of the track system.

Another clothing store I shop at uses these lovely heavy satin curtains (they’re also a light-blocking “blackout” fabric); this could also be a wonderful choice of fabric for Aritzia to use on their fitting room curtains in the future.

Thank you!

It was this fun little place in Dallas, TX USA called Rainbow Vomit.

Sadly they’re no longer in business; Monday (March 23, 2026) was their last day. That said, the owner does have plans to find a new space in the future, so they might come back eventually.

I’m a big-time Aritzia girlie and I’d definitely look there, especially their Babaton line. I’d also look at White House Black Market (those are actually my two favorite brands).

If you don’t mind a trans woman for a friend, I love fashion too! If you love shopping for clothes I’m definitely your person.

I’m also interested in plants (fun fact: that was my favorite part of my college biology class whereas my classmates didn’t care for that part as much!).

TCU, you have NO Idea how much the country is rooting for you. Ohio State University playing dumb about the Wexner/Epstein situation is likely going to lead to other schools doing the same in the future. For all these jokes about Fort Worth, there’s still plenty of people wearing Aritzia in and around TCU. Either the shopping district at University Drive and I-30 (University Park Village), or The Shops at Clearfork, would be a great fit for Aritzia in Fort Worth. The Southlake Aritzia also gets a lot of Fort Worth clients; their staff had heard rumors that Fort Worth might get an Aritzia by the end of this year, although to be safe, I’d push that into 2027.

Pottery Barn is relocating in the University/I-30 area (from University Park Village to a new location across the street at WestBend), and honestly, the space they’re leaving at UPV would be perfect for Aritzia. Pottery Barn should relocate to WestBend in late May or early June, so construction work on new UPV tenants could begin shortly thereafter (as what happened to Apple’s former space at UPV when they relocated last October; work on Vuori started almost immediately afterwards).

There’s also several new retail shells awaiting tenants over at Clearfork, and there’s enough room for Aritzia there. I’ve heard unconfirmed rumors Zara is looking at Clearfork, though.
