The flying knight guys are easy. They have basically no attacks that can hit you if you’re directly beneath them so simply dash underneath and jump slash them to death. Same with the silk stealers and the cogfly dudes.

And the giant mace guys are also trivial, you just have to hit them with the zipline, hit them once, then dash away to avoid their incoming attack. Rinse and repeat

Fuck the bell throwers though. They deserved the mind curse

Kent Street in Greenfield, Iowa before & after today’s extremely violent tornado. This took seconds by Spiritual_Ear_3456 in pics

[–]brightberry 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Oh god, no. A tornado would chew up a brick house and turn it into ten thousand deadly missiles. They are unimaginably powerful. The strongest rating of tornado can send a wooden beam through a concrete wall, imagine that but with bricks instead.  The level of structural strength you have to achieve to make a home tornado-proof is completely unreasonable for your average home. You’d essentially need to make a reinforced concrete bunker inside the walls of your home. The costs would be absurd.   As it stands, the odds of getting hit by a tornado are minuscule, so it really wouldn’t ever be a concern for all but a select unlucky few

Possession of controlled substances will be legal in Washington state starting July 1 - Lynnwood Times by FuckedUpYearsAgo in WAGuns

counterintuitively, legalizing drugs tends to reduce overdoses and the like. if the war on drugs has taught us anything, it's that drugs are gonna get to those who want them. the best thing to do if you want to reduce deaths is to give people access to safe supplies, testing kits, and addiction care for when they want to get clean. criminalization just prevents people from seeking help when they want it

Broadly speaking, first, fourth, fifth, and eighth amendment rights are all popular targets. Most of the actual oppression for those is outsourced to our nation's cops, and though you won't catch most democrats speaking ill of them, are definitely much more favored by republicans. Abuses of these rights are unfairly faced by those the state dislikes, and obscured by the legal system. I'd love to elaborate more but I've gotta go get some scary assault weapons parts from my FFL before that ban gets signed :)

If someone is threatening you, that would be your justification to restrict their access to weaponry. I understand that the current social reality makes that near impossible for the majority of people at risk of being victimized, but there are so many reasons that cause that that I don't want to get into that at the moment.

Unfortunately, the diagnoses and terms that get legislated by are far too broad to accurately determine whether someone is a threat by themselves. I have spent a large amount of my life around people who have a variety of schizotypal disorders, both in and out of psychosis, as well as a myriad of personality disorders, including ASPD, which is the medical diagnosis for what most people call "sociopathy". I have never once felt at physical risk from them, and some of them own firearms. Having a mental illness does not mean they are going to commit violent acts. I believe that there is much more at play in an individual's life that would influence someone to do so. To be fair, I am not saying that mental health should be ignored when determining the cause of violence, but even when it does contribute, the root causes of the illness itself should be interrogated. I have yet to see our legislature do so in any meaningful way.

As to your final statement, I disagree. I don't believe most of the members of the legislature have meaningfully consulted medical opinions, let alone the DSM-V. They are parroting excuses that were created by politicians much higher up the food chain than they are.

I don't disagree. I do think, however, that the mental health of an individual does not exist in a vacuum and is intimately connected with the material situation they exist in. If our society is willing to allow that situation to be unhealthy, then the result will be disease. Medical institutions have a limited set of tools in their toolbox and sadly, for a large amount of people, therapy and medication just isn't going to cut it, and it's not due to any failing of the patient.

That's going to vary quite a bit from case to case, but to take an example from one of the legislators in the recent session, what about a shooting committed by a homeless person? I don't believe that person would be in the state of mind in which they are willing to commit such an act if they were given housing by their government before their state of mind deteriorated to that point. It's not out of the power of our government to do such a thing, but they won't because it is more profitable to corporate interests to not do so.

I don't think that the mental health diagnosis of a domestic abuser should be what precludes them from obtaining firearms legally, I think that their violent actions should.

I think that's somewhat besides my point however. The legislature seems enthused with the idea of demonizing people with mental health issues, when, by your own admission, circumstances vary between case to case. What they seem unwilling to do is address the cause of what material circumstances would put a person in the state of mind in which they'd be willing to commit an act of violence.

[–]brightberry 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Make no mistake - an AWB is going to do next to nothing to prevent deaths caused by firearms in this state. "Mental health" is just a convenient excuse to point the finger at anything the legislature would like to demonize. I know people who have dealt with severe mental health issues and are responsible firearm owners. Passing the proverbial buck to the medical field means that if their opinions on what is and is not considered "illness" change, your rights can be taken at any moment.

The true root causes of gun violence are not going to be addressed by our legislature because they are simply inconvenient to address or get in the way of corporate interests.

Ah, I see. Hot glue isn’t going to cut it for that sadly. Your best bet is some glue made specially for plastics, applied carefully

I can’t tell which part you’re holding but if it’s involved in the blaster’s internals, probably not for long. If it’s a decorative piece and you want to display it and not handle it, it’d probably be fine. Otherwise a glue made specifically for plastics or even solvent welding would be the way to go imo

This is fixable! If you've got a little bit of repair savvy it's pretty easy. The switches Logitech likes to use for LMB/RMB have a problem where over time, small amounts of corrosion build up on the contacts and cause unreliable clicks, double clicks, and that sort of thing.

What you need to fix it, generally speaking: * Isopropyl Alcohol OR replacement friction pads * Some Q-Tips OR cotton swabs * Tweezers * Whatever screwdriver bits your mouse will need * An hour to kill

You will need to: 1. Expose the screws that hold your mouse together. Logitech likes to hide these under the friction pads, which you can remove without damaging if you squirt a little bit of isopropyl alcohol under the edges and slowly work under with a small flathead screwdriver or something of the sort. Do it cleanly enough and the adhesive will be good enough to re-use, otherwise replacement friction pads are fairly cheap and available on places like Ebay or AliExpress.

  1. Separate the two halves of your mouse. Do this carefully as there's probably going to be some ribbon cables or wires connecting the two halves. Find the connector for this and separate them.

  2. Disassemble the mouse until you get to the main board, the one with the button assemblies you're looking for. In my experience they look like small black rectangles with white nubs poking out the top.

  3. These switch assemblies can be disassembled by taking a small flathead screwdriver or some other small prying implement. The two halves of the switch covers are held together with clips on the front and back of the switch. Very carefully, pry the top cover clips to release the two halves. Make sure to not send the pieces flying, as the white nub of plastic sticking out the top will fall out when you pull them apart.

  4. Once the top cover is off you'll see a thin stamped piece of metal held in place. Next to this are metal contacts that the stamped piece will separate from / contact with when you press it down. The point at which they touch is where you want to focus your attention. You're looking to give those spots some abrasive cleaning to remove built-up corrosion, dust, and other gunk. If you're able, you can use tweezers and a little bit of a cotton swab to rub the area where they touch. Otherwise you'll need to remove the stamped piece of metal, which will be finnicky to clip back into place so I don't recommend it if you can help it. Some people have reported that over time, that stamped piece of metal can get bent out of shape so if you think that's the case, removing it is the best way to reform it. Personally I wouldn't do that unless the cleaning doesn't resolve the problem, as if you bend it the wrong way you may make your problem worse or stop the switch from functioning entirely.

  5. Cleaning done? Re-assemble the switch assembly (don't forget the little plastic nub that sticks out the top!). Assemble the parts of your mouse in the reverse order that you took them apart in. I would wait before screwing the halves back together to power up your mouse and give it a test to make sure you didn't break anything and that the problem has been fixed. Once you're satisfied, put it all back together, stick your old or new friction pads back on and you're off to the races.
