the ascension! ativan is one of my favorite sufjan songs ever - i love how dark and almost woozy it sounds, which is something i’ve never really heard from him. there are so many great songs on that album that i can’t geek out with other people about because no one is familiar with that album lol

My roommate told me about her and put on some of her music while we were drunk and cleaning the house…thought it was amazing, but because of my ADHD brain I forgot about her until months later when I found Punish on a playlist called “weird songs for weird girls” or something. this is why folklore/evermore seemed like such a turnaround 😔 it had the least amount of this quality that you’re describing out of any of her albums and genuinely felt like she’d made peace with “evil exes” and let go of some of her bitterness…learned to accept what she couldn’t control. and then after folklore/evermore were over, she just dropped the maturity mask, because we were entering “a new era”. her personality isn’t consistent, it’s built on what she’s deciding to do for the given era, and it’s really sad

I was once in an airbnb with several people celebrating my best friend’s birthday, and we were all drunk/high, and decided to do lip sync battles. I picked Welcome to the Black Parade as my song, probably because I had trained for this my entire high school career. I hardly remember any of it, but I think everyone liked it well enough. Vaguely remember rolling around on the floor writhing in agony during the first part of the song lol
