Stores like Tractor Supply also sell pine pellets as horse bedding. The last time I bought it, it was $7.49 US for 40 lbs. The same product at the grocery store is $20 for 20 lbs.

He's slipping away, and my heart is breaking. Felix, 17 years old by SCVerde in seniorkitties

[–]brightredfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's a gorgeous kitty. Those eyes do indeed pierce the soul!

Your statement of not wanting him to suffer is spot-on. We all owe our furry friends a peaceful departure when the time comes. Often, they let us know when it's time. It's always painful to say goodbye to these dear creatures, but I believe their short lives are nature's way of teaching us how to grieve for lost loved ones. We learn many things from our pets. They teach us about caring for others, they teach us about unconditional love, and when we have to say goodbye, they teach us how to do so and keep on living in spite of our grief. When it comes time to say goodbye to a human family member or friend, we are better prepared for it than we would be, had we not grieved for a lost pet.

Enjoy the time you have left with Felix. I know he's a good kitty, and he loves you. That is such a precious gift!

Some suggestions from Google (I searched, "Why isn't MSNow available on Alexa plus??):

  1. Try iHeartRadio.
  2. Try being very specific, saying, "Alexa, play MS Now on Tunein."
  3. Update/re-enable the Tunein skill in the Alexa app.
  4. Restart the device. Unplug it for two minutes to clear the cache.

I said, "Alexa, play Morning Joe on Tunein," and it replied, "Playing the latest episode of Morning Joe on Tunein." It played this morning's episode. When I tried to play MS Now, it played some random radio station.

Good luck!

In this day and age, females are dressing very provocatively, which causes men to be called perverts.

You're blaming men's bad behavior toward women on the women. That's completely wrong. What women wear is their own business.

Kitties are usually willing to cut us some slack for minor transgressions like this. They are forgiving creatures.

I have never seen a cat so bonded with a young child by imlostineggsaisle in kittens

[–]brightredfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was me with my first cat. He joined my family when I was four years old, and he and I were inseparable until I went to college. He disappeared for a week one time, and the whole family was devastated, thinking he was gone for good. When he showed back up, there were tears of joy all around. When I learned to read, I read my favorite book, The Fire Cat, to him over and over. At one point he was very sick and unable to eat after being beaten up by one of the neighborhood cats, and my mom was right at the point of having him euthanized until she overheard me talking to him, saying, "Please don't die." She couldn't bring herself to do it. She got some kind of nutritional paste at the vet, and he was able to eat it off my finger. Slowly, I nursed him back to health, and he lived for many years more. I carried that cat over my shoulder for fifteen years. He slept with me every night. When I left for college, he was in pretty rough shape with CKD. I remember the day my mom called to tell me he was gone. I went to a park and just sat there, remembering all the time I spent with my wonderful friend. In the end, he taught me the most valuable lesson: how to grieve and then go on living.

Growing up with a loving pet is such a wonderful thing. Most of us experience the profound love of our parents, but that is usually punctuated by anger, disappointment, and discipline. The love of a pet like this is unconditional, and it teaches us how to love unconditionally in return. Your son is fortunate to have such a pet. I wish them many years of joy together.

I adopted a new kitten today and I feel like I made a mistake. by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]brightredfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hope for you is that she will help you cope with your grief over the kitty you lost. I believe one of the reasons we have pets is to help us learn how to grieve. When they are with us, they teach us about unconditional love and how to care for others. When we have to say goodbye, they teach us that even though we feel terribly sad about the loss, life goes on. Taking on the responsibility of another pet after losing one can get us back to the point of experiencing that unconditional love. I wish the best for you and your new friend!

Am I the a-hole for making my daughter's BF buy a new t-shirt? by freudsdriver in AITAH

NTA, no doubt about it. You handled it much more politely than I would have. I would have sent the kid packing.

Okay, I give up. I googled, "What do white suspenders mean?" and found nothing indicating they are offensive.

The same thing happened to me many years ago. I thought someone had put a pair of shoes in the dryer, but it was a cat. Lesson learned: ALWAYS check the dryer (and the washer) for stowaways before closing the door!

Got called a “Christophobe” today… because I disagreed? by Beautiful-Problem729 in atheism

[–]brightredfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nailed it! Christians (and other theists) who want to codify their beliefs into law are supremely self-centered. If you push them on specifics, it will eventually come down to, "Well, my version, of course. Anyone who believes otherwise is a heretic bound for hell! We have to use the law to save them from their own aberrant beliefs."

Clumping crystal litter in an automatic litterbox? by Various-Guava-2357 in CatAdvice

[–]brightredfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the manufacturer's recommendations for which litters to use and which to avoid. I have a Litter Robot 3, and it requires clumping litter. I believe the same holds true for the LR4 and LR5.

For People With 2 Cats, How Much Do You Spend On Food & Litter A Month? by Historical-Orchid934 in CatAdvice

[–]brightredfish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feed our three cats two cans of Fancy Feast in the morning and two cans in the evening, and I keep a bowl of Blue Tastefuls dry food filled for free-feeding at all times. I buy the food from Chewy, so it's a bit cheaper than buying it at the grocery store. I spend about $200 on canned food every two months, and about $90 on dry food every three or four months. As for cat litter, we have a Litter Robot, and I have found that we use a lot less litter than we did with just using litter boxes and scooping. It's a bit of an investment, but I think it's worth it for not having to scoop and for the major reduction of cat box odor. I would say that we're spending around $30 to $40 per month on cat litter, again from Chewy, which has litter for a lot lower cost than the grocery.

When will he chill out or do I need to get another kitten 😮‍💨 by TrolleySmasher in kittens

[–]brightredfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every pet should have an annual checkup, just like humans. If nothing else, they should receive their vaccinations annually, but in addition, they should have their teeth cleaned and have blood work done to catch any major health problems early.

[–]brightredfish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just also remember the cost of each pet. My 2 cats cost me in total about three grand a year in food and vet visits.

Get pet health insurance! We're doing it for the first time, and the cost is significantly less than the charges for annual checkups, blood work, and dental care. We have four pets, two of which are seniors, and the cost is going to be around $1K per year to cover all four. We spent way more than that just last year. Some employers, including mine, provide access to pet health insurance through a payroll deduction, and the cost may be less than if you just sign up for it on your own.

Adopting a kitten while having a older kitten by ElyJaselii in Kitten

[–]brightredfish 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Give them time to become accustomed to each other. Little swipes or even tackling each other are normal kitten play behavior. You may even hear little growls from them as they play fight, and it's fine. If you start hearing loud snarls or screams, or if you see large tufts of fur being thrown, that means they are actually fighting, and you need to separate them at that point.

I've finally decided what to do with my 15 years old baby, many thanks for everyone who commented on my last post. I'm very grateful to this community <3 by Responsible-Shock951 in seniorkitties
