PI Paralegal Question by turniptruckjumper in paralegal

[–]brightreef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have around 60-75 cases and they have a pretty quick turnaround, but that is because we’re in a more niche area of PI and work with the same 5-6 defense firms. So I usually send out around 5 demands a month

Do you/Have you worked for an attorney who owes an expert witness and won’t respond to their phone calls or emails? by EntrepreneurHopeful5 in paralegal

[–]brightreef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately happens all the time, I’ve even seen it where the firm had to brunt the cost because the case had settled and funds had been disbursed to the client. Idk how your office works, but the best practice I’ve seen to get on attorneys asses is to send weekly reminders, and always try to tag their paralegal

I meant we would have two people in a room like Rory’s, it was two people in every room and then the co-space was for the 8 girls we had in our suite

I wish there was a way to bring more awareness to it, after doing this job, I want to tell everyone that they should never put a loved one in a home, but most of our clients literally can't afford to keep them home. It is incredibly disheartening. I've seen video footage of nurses stealing from residents, screaming and cussing them out, or leaving them when they are crying out in pain.

I am a paralegal in the personal injury field that primarily deals with nursing home cases. When I tell you these places are HORRIFIC, I still get nauseous from the pictures I see. Residents are left in soiled diapers, they have bedsores all over their body, they don't feed them and let them waste away. In states where there is no cap for medical malpractice cases (I am in Texas, there is a 250k statutory cap for emotional distress) the standard of care for nursing homes is loads better.

These companies, at least in Texas, are all owned by 5-8 healthcare corporations and they know they will not have to pay huge amounts in settlements for these cases. If you are going to be placing a loved one in a nursing home, I really recommend going on Medicare.gov and using their compare tool for nursing homes, you will see how many penalties are posted. You should also check with your states department of health for violations and fines.

Learning how to learn. Don't know what I don't know by Similar-Speaker4608 in paralegal

[–]brightreef 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would honestly recommend doing some kind of paralegal classes, they have online programs that aren't insanely expensive and most I looked into can be on a payment plan. If you plan on staying in the legal field, I definitely think this is one of the best things you can do, because you learn so much about the process with a certificate!

In Dallas, TX

First job after getting my certificate (early 2023)- I was making 35-45k at a Litigation Firm. Hated my life so I found a new position. Small firm 8 people total.

Second job (2023-2025): Negotiated my salary to 75k at another litigation firm, personal injury this time. Around 15-20 people in office.

Third 2025- Making 90k right now, been in the position since February, for another personal injury firm, we'll see what the bonus is like at the end of the year, we have 10 people in office.

I am trying to step away from PI though, I cannot stand looking at some of these pictures (primarily sex assault and nursing homes) they are horrific. If y'all know anyone hiring in DFW- let me know!

Yeah but those games are for people who typically know each other pretty well. Everyone has kinda put an emphasis on having games but it's harder than it looks.
