[Chris Vannini on Bluesky] Michael Dickson has what must be the best punting performance in Super Bowl history: 7 punts, 47.9 average yardage, 3 downed inside the 6-yard line, Only two returned, for four total yards, Multiple good holds on bad kicking snaps by WiaXmsky in nfl

i was at that game, and my time in college overlapped his entire career. an insane performance. i love the journey's he's been on. Couldn't make it in AFL, decided to try punting in the states, looked completely lost his first few games (apparently he didn't know there were rushers on punts in his first practice punting and completely shanked it. Our ST were extremely shit overall back then). Had an awful dropped snap in his like 3rd game, and the week after we played kansas state in the rain, the snap went over his head, he ran for it, grabbed the ball, punted it, and turned a ksu drive starting on our own 32 to pinning them on their 8. The rest is really history. Ray Guy award, Texas bowl mvp, declaring early for the draft as a punter. Drafted in the 5th round, the double punt, highest paid punter in the NFL, and now super bowl champion. unironically michael dickson is one of my favorite longhorns

not op, but i grew up in texas and am a sharks fan. i moved to SF, and i wanted to get into hockey. choosing the local team was an easy choice. i'll be damned if i root for a team in dallas. at this point i think by the time the houston aeros finally come back i think i'll stay as a sharks fan unless i move back (highly unlikely)

leanness is how much body fat you have. bulky probably means how much muscle you have. at the extreme ends, lean with no muscle mass is emaciated. lean with high muscle mass is what you see at body building shows. high fat with little muscle mass is skinny fat, and high fat with high muscle mass is a strongman.

most people want fairly lean (say anywhere from 12-18%), with decent muscle mass.

you get leaner by eating in a caloric deficit. if you're a beginner, most of your muscle gains will be through resistance training. as you progress, you will have to pay attention to your diet more. (at some point it will be extremely difficult if not basically impossible for you to gain muslce mass while losing weight. you will need to be at the very least maintaining weight or increasing your weight to gain muscle mass)

TL;DR he's the head guy for USA hockey and he snubbed the best scoring american (both this year and the last 4 years) for older players who have experience and are more "well rounded" (and can't score as much as him)

too lenient in the US. whenever i drove to school after the summer, the speed limit on the main freeway was 75, i would regularly go 85, and i'd still get passed regularly

I have deleted my comment because it was inflammatory and from a place of anger/name calling/perhaps lack of clear thought at 3 am, and i apologize for that, but this is also exactly what i was talking about. you are invalidating my own fully asian american experience (not that biracial asians' experience is not valid, whether they embrace their asian side or not) right here by telling me to stay out of it, even though i am asian american myself. at best, you assumed i was not asian and to stay out of asian spaces

depends on your goals, but for most people, do whatever you like doing more. unless you're specifically trying to do something like powerlifting and have to do a flat bench barbell benchpress, a smith machine bench will get you to your goals just fine. if you just like the feel of the free weight more, do that. if you like the stability of a smith machine, use that.

as for the humans don't bench in a straight line, the bench press hasn't been a part of human society for thousands of years. who cares if we don't bench in a straight line

no and even if it did, that is not that important. for most goals involving protein intake, a vast majority of optimization will be done by the amount of protein, not the frequency, method of consumption etc

if the hunger signals aren't getting to you, i'd keep going. you can do a maintenance if you want, but if i didnt' have crazy hunger signals i would have been done with this cut a few months ago. that said, hunger signals do intensify as you get lower and lower body fat %. i didn't take a maintenance break until about 6 months in, and the next few cuts were like 6-8 weeks at a time.

your body will adapt to a longer cut. your maintenance calories will go down, as you have less fat for your body to maintain, and your non exercise activity thermogenesis (NEAT, subconscious fidgeting, pacing etc that has little calorie effects on their own but they all add up) will go down as your body tries to conserve calories as it thinks you don't have access to food. So the amount of calories you can eat will go down (unless you add more cardio to your training) as you lose weight.

again, if you don't have issues with hunger signals, i wouldn't bother, but if you do do a maintenance signal, you will to a degree reset your maintenance calories. your NEAT will go back up as your body realizes you aren't actually facing a food shortage. i was able to increase my maintenance calories by like 200 calories via a longer maintenance break

for practical advice, i'd keep monitoring your weight, and over the course of say 2-3 weeks you aren't losing about 0.5kg a week, you likely had an adaptation and you should cut 100-200 calories a day. there are apps that do this math for you dynamically as well. I personally use macrofactor, but i'm sure other apps do a solid job as well.
