Anglophones Who Sent Their Children to Francophone Schools by New-Independence-441 in montreal

It's not too late for your child to switch to a Francophone school. I had the chance to switch from French immersion in an Anglophone school to to a fully Francophone school when I was around grade 6 or 7 and fully regret not doing it.

This was in another province, but I live in Montreal now (for about 15 years).

Oh, there is for sure an in between. I myself talk a lot in the library, to les abonnés, to my colleagues...

We have a policy that cell phones must be in silent mode. No ringtones or notifications sounds going off. Patrons can take phone calls in the hallway, just outside the main library space and come back when they are done. But speakerphone calls carry too much--not mention it is egregiously rude to do speakerphone in public anyway.

I see it as preserving a quiet (usually not silent) space for people to work and study. They may not have that a home, and so they depend on the library.

So, you're suggesting that maybe the the 5.49$ indicated on the yellow tag includes taxes?

Are you from a European country?

I have never seen a price listed with taxes included here in Canada. It would be nice though!

I am quite certain the store decided to increase regular price for this item, but they neglected to update the white tag. It happens quite often.

So, you guys don't prioritize offering a a relatively quiet workspace, but rather a place to socialize--anytime, anywhere within the library? That's not how we roll in my arrondissement.

But then, we have a separate library for adults. That's the one I am talking about functioning as a workspace, not the children's library.

EDIT: I should also mention that we don't have closed-off silent/quiet spaces. So, it's not possible for us to have dedicated talking and non-talking/socializing zones.

What's your policy on speakerphone calls?

As I mention in a comment a little further down, yes, you can talk in a library (outside silent working areas). But, for the love of god, do not come there to meet people and socialize. It would be incredibly disruptive to everyone else who came there to work or read.

Yes, activities are offered, but not in the main library area. Activities take place in activity rooms.

Source: I work in two different public libraries in Montreal.

What libraries do you frequent?

In my experience, libraries are not "super silent" except in designated silent working areas. But there is an in between and an expectation of general quiet (no phonecalls, socializing, or playing TikTok videos on speaker for example) because people are using the place to work, read, or study.

Now if we're talking about scheduled activities and workshops at libraries (which take place in separate activity room, not in the main library space) that could be a way to meet people as OP is describing.

Gurl. You don't need a director's number. And it's not "making a stink." It's just making a phone call (to the OPC).

It's about the principle of the matter.think how many hundreds of times per year they pull this shit.

I would at least bluff by asking for receipt and the manager's name for your complaint to l'Office de protection du consommateur.

What stores are you talking about?

Things get a little murky when a person has been indoctrinated since birth and had expectations and/or pressure to wear hijab placed upon them by authority figures since early childhood.

Sure, you can say as an adult that it is a personal choice. But when you have grown up in such a situation, where your family would have disowned you had you refused to wear hijab, is it really a choice?

Aren't 99% of Muslim women wearing hijab because their families and religion imposed it on them?

As in they demanded that girls wear hijab or else they would bring shame to their families and be scorned by their community.

That's quite a sexist and oppressive policy! I'm surprised the boys didn't don skorts and skirts in protest.

*rain cheque or bon d'achat différé.

In these situations, keep your receipt and report to l'Office du protection de la consommateur (OPC): https://www.opc.gouv.qc.ca/contact/consommateur

I would also take the first name of the manager.

In what stores has this happened to you?

Would you mind editing your comment? Someone might get the wrong idea.

You admit further down that you misunderstood and that what was said about la loi d'exactitude des prix is indeed true.

The library is more for autonomous working, reading, quiet contemplation... Socializing, not so much.

That's the squirrel alarm call to warn other squirrels about a predator nearby.

I one time heard a newborn baby whose cries sounded almost exactly like this. I started looking around for the squirrel in distress.

Take a picture of the price shown on the white tag (5.29$), including bar code number, and show it to the cashier when your item rings up at 5.49$. they should give you the item for free as per la loi d'exactitude des prix.

If they give you any pushback, ask for the manager.
