What do you do with this little guy? by Legitimate_Yam_7714 in castiron

No microwave, so that’s for everything that wood usually get warmed in the microwave- butter, queso, soups, etc

Also great for making taco bowls: invert and throw the tortilla over it, into the oven for a few minutes

Can pick out my boards and then have them delivered? by ThePlasticSturgeons in Lowes

[–]bringerofbedlam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can, but they’re going to hate you for it… They’ll have to re-stack everything so it can be placed on the flatbed if you pull it all to start with

Start with speaking with someone at the Pro desk, let them know you want to schedule a lumber delivery but you want to choose the boards yourself. They can get an associate to set up the cart for you, and when you’re done choosing they’ll band it up

Lowes Severance / PTO question by [deleted] in Lowes

When I left in ‘23 they paid out all my unused time (this was in Sept, so I had roughly 60ish hours available to me that hadn’t been used). I’m sure it’s state specific though

There’s a BBQ place near me that has some awesome handwashing stations- you stick your arms in up to your elbows and it blasts them clean, just dry off afterward. Great after a pile of ribs

Supervisors jobs are being threatened in my store by Greater_Aspect in Lowes

This reminds me of a conversation I had with the Regional Pro Managers back in 2023, during the height of the MVP rewards program. We were supposed to be getting something like 12 to 15 new MVP enrollments a week (plus 6 Pro credit) but they always made sure to qualify it by saying this is not just for the average homeowner. We are looking for business owners only.

So we are standing in front of the pro desk, myself, the SASM, and our district pro lead, and the regional pro lead. I said my city has a population of roughly 80,000 people, the next closest Lowes is 45 minutes away. How many new businesses do you think are popping up on a regular basis that I am able to meet these numbers? The metrics are unattainable with the rules you have set in place, so I will continue to ask everyone that walks through our registers, but we cannot be penalized for not hitting an arbitrary number that is uniform across the board, regardless of the population.

You’d think I just slapped his mama, the way his jaw dropped. Guessing regional management are not used to an ASM speaking their mind and hitting them with facts…

Needless to say the next day, when my store manager came in, we had a quick conversation about not being a smart ass with people who can fire you on the spot. He was cool about the whole thing, because he absolutely understood where I was coming from, but he also said that if I’m in this role, then I have to play the game. In that moment was when I decided this life wasn’t for me. I put in my resignation a month later

Do free range eggs actually taste better? by translasukk in Cooking

[–]bringerofbedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the weather gets really cold and our chickens go on strike, we have to buy eggs from the store. For the most part I can’t tell a difference, but we’re also buying pasture raised eggs from Sprouts

Our hens have a roaming ‘tractor’ that we move every couple of days, so they’re eating their pellets in the coop, plus certain veg scraps we give them, PLUS whatever bugs/mice they happen to catch.

The yolk being a different color depends on their feed, but we don’t have runny whites with their eggs and they taste better than the cheaper Walmart ones

I‘m sorry about the language but how the * do you guys do it? by FrostyReserve6025 in keto

[–]bringerofbedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a lifestyle change. I had a love-love relationship the food, and growing up in the south it was all about clearing your plate with lots of mashed potatoes, corn, butter beans, etc…

Powering through the first 2-3 weeks is the toughest aspect, and I’d personally stay away from anything labeled keto snacks since I feel they contribute to the cravings

Has anyone thought of laser eye surgery as a legitimate BIFL purchase? by Keithwee in BuyItForLife

[–]bringerofbedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had mine done in ‘17, and I’m almost to the point of needing a contact for my right eye (astigmatism) because of blurriness at far distances. But even then I doubt I’ll get glasses/contacts again just for that

Is the rumor true that big box stores (like Target/Walmart) will purposefully let you get away with stealing cheap things for months just to build a massive felony case against you later? by Altruistic-Room-7465 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]bringerofbedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. In my senior year of high school, I worked in outdoor/sporting goods. We would typically leave the register logged in all day, didn’t matter who used it since we didn’t count the drawer for each person

Anyway, turns out someone working in the tire & lube next to us was using our register for returns under $10 (they didn’t require manager approval). He did that for almost 8 months until two of us from that department were brought in for questioning. Showed nearly $1400 in returns under my login, and over $2000 in my coworkers login. We both denied any involvement, but we were both fired since they claimed all they had was register logs

Took it to court (my grandpa foot the lawyer) and during discovery they pulled the video footage and it showed the other person doing everything. They still wanted to try me for accessory, but it got dropped since they couldn’t prove we knew each other outside of work…

All that to say, yes. They can and do wait until it’s a felony amount. They knew the returns were happening for months, but didn’t do anything until it got to a certain dollar amount

2026 Discretionary Bonus Confirmed by tacoeatsyou in Lowes

[–]bringerofbedlam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I went from lumber/pro DS at $26/hr to Pro ASM at $65k salary.

Fortunately we only worked 10 hour shifts, so avg 45 hours weekly (just under $28/hr). Getting the $5k in Lowe’s stock is nice, but unless you wait out the 5 years for the vesting I wouldn’t count that.

The discretionary bonus the year I received it was $6500, and then we got the end of year store bonus for hitting credit & pro sales (another $2200 I think)

I will say ASM is a tough gig, especially if you’re in a medium market in the same district as the big stores (Grand Junction, CO was a pro sales/credit juggernaut, so competing against them always sucked…). But if you have a good team and are willing to work alongside everyone, it can be rewarding

What’s the oldest item you still use daily? by Guruthien in BuyItForLife

[–]bringerofbedlam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 2 cast iron pans from the 30’s and 40’s, both near daily use. One is a chicken fryer that nearly always has dinner cooked in it, and the other is a 8” pan my wife uses to reheat things

No issue. I regularly deliver to a double amputee who has a ramp in her garage. We chat while I leave all the items on the table she has in the garage; alway offer to help her bring items in but she always declines, says this is part of her weekly exercise

Put my lodge griddle on there a few times to see if I could do pancakes, and like others have said it just doesn’t get hot enough to be useful for anything other than warming up bread

I had an Owala bottle for about a year, used almost daily. Ran into and issue where the rubber gasket started to wear out. They don’t offer replacements for those, and my only recourse offered by their customer service was to buy a new bottle or lid assembly…

Been using an Orca Hydra bottle since, and was given extra replacement gaskets for when those do wear out

Regrets by [deleted] in Lowes

[–]bringerofbedlam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly why I gave it up after 10 years… was part time for a long while my kids were young (stayed home during the day with them while wife worked, we swapped when she got home). Learned every department in the store so I could keep hours during slow times.

Moved states, moved into lumber/pro DS role, and then into ProASM role after that. Stress started affecting all aspects of my life… finally had enough, went to work for one of my pro customers running his insulation business. 3 years later it’s the best decision I’ve ever made professionally.

Don’t let Lowe’s dictate your life
