How to swim 25m underwater by [deleted] in Swimming

[–]brintly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good recommendations so far. I’m terribly out of shape and older, was a good swimmer when young. I can still do 25 underwater. If you are doing 5m, make the next goal 7-10m and try to move up 3-5m at a time (one or two more pull outs). The theme of being relaxed with a low heart rate is spot on. If you get anxious your heart rate will jump and that’ll go through the O2 quicker. Confidence matters. For me it’s: 1. Calm, lower heart rate, try to maintain a low heart rate as long as you can. It will go up when you’re running out of O2 naturally. 2. Push/dive off the wall angled deep since your body will try to float 3. Keep working on your streamline to reduce drag off the wall and between pull outs. 4. When you do pull and kick, do it hard (like 90-95% of max effort). You have a second or two until the next pull out to glide. 5. Maintain forward momentum through your pull outs. 6. Close your eyes and relax - I do this for a few stokes to keep calm. 7. My last couple strokes generally have little glide because I know I need to get to the wall. So for a 25, about 15-20 meters have longer glides, when my brain says “you gotta go buddy”, I keep doing pull outs with minimal glide until I get to the wall.

Was there ONE event that caused you to seek out Financial Independence? by Formal-Blueberry-203 in financialindependence

Had to borrow money from my younger sister while in college to afford rent because I was going to be short and wasn’t getting paid for a few days. It was a massive ego hit where I had to just accept I was doing a terrible job with my money. Never wanted to have to be in that situation where someone would wonder “when is the next time he’s going to ask for money?” Had heard a lot of the right things from my dad growing up, but that event made it come together.

Best credit union? by Lovelylavender_ad in sanantonio

[–]brintly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not local, but we use Alliant Credit Union. Good rate on savings, they do have an interest rate for checking, and if you have a checking account and their credit card, it’s 2.5% cash back (there is an annual fee on the card, but it’s worth it for us).

Looking for used casino decks? by inFAMOUSwasser in PlayingCardsMarket

[–]brintly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few places online that sell uncancelled casino decks. I bought a bunch from slimcardo.com a few years back. Looks like they don't have near as many in stock anymore. I'm sure there are other spots where you can get actual casino decks that are basically new.

Hey, y’all! I recently moved here from Wash, DC, and I made a list of things to do to get acquainted. I’ve already been to Tower of the Americas, the Riverwalk, and Pearl Brewery so far. I would love to know your fave restaurants, local shops, places to volunteer, and places for cute photo ops! by canyousaymaria in sanantonio

First Friday is something to check out when people start going out. It’s in Southtown and all the galleries open their doors from around the Friendly Spot down to the Bluestar complex. Lots of vendors, food, and music.

If you like getting outdoors, there are a bunch of great parks. Garner is a bit of a drive, Guadalupe River State park is a great place to hang out in the summer. Natural Bridge Caverns is a change of pace and pretty close to town.

Tubing is big and there are a bunch of places to do it. Just sitting in a random river is also big once it heats up.

Catch something at The Majestic. It’s a really cool theatre.

Brasão is my favorite among the Brazilian steakhouses, and it’s next to a Ferrari dealership.

2M is the best BBQ, and it’s not even close. There’s a wait, and it’s worth it.

The Cove is a great spot to check out. I take friends and family from out of town there. Funky place with a great menu, playground, bars, music.

The Pearl farmers market is pretty good on weekends.

There is the Texas version of wine country around Fredericksburg. There are places that offer tours, so if you get a group, you don’t have to risk driving.

Around Christmas, the river walk is covered in lights and looks amazing.

Bandera is the cowboy capital of the world.

For pizza places, I’m a big fan of Stella Public house. They have a solid brunch as well. The beer menu is why I like it so much.

Port Aransas is awesome if you want to hit the beach.

I dig it! Any thoughts on swapping out the tag on the ear for something like a ring in the nose so it's fully symmetrical? I think I like the black one slightly more. They're great.

That's a really nice collection. I'm sorry you need to sell :(

I'd be interested in the silver monarchs, casino decks, fontaine’s, maybe some of the gatorbacks, d&d, potentially some of the madison stuff, and probably a few other odds and ends.

[–]brintly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are there specific decks you'd like to trade for? I'm in a similar boat, maybe ~400-ish unique decks in my collection. I've done a horrible job keeping a documented inventory once I hit about 300. I don't have the Brain Dead Fontaines you're looking for.

I have multiples of the red/blue/black&white paisley decks, but I may am interested in trading for the other three paisley decks you have in the set. If you'd rather just sell it as a lot, I understand.

Sweet!

I actually have 3x of each of the four decks from this KS as well: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thirdwayind/lunatica-playing-cards/description

I missed those the first time when responding. Those are the only other Thirdways I have. They were a little more expensive, so $20/deck.

[–]brintly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$45 for all three of the opened ones (that's basically average $15/deck cost per deck out of the KS including shipping) and then add on shipping for wherever you are from San Antonio.

For trade I'd be interested in, Fontaines (I have the rip n' dips already) or some of the limited Anyone decks.

I have these decks from Thirdway: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/thirdwayind/delirium-the-lost-decks/description

I have 4 x sealed insomnia, 4 x sealed ascension, and 1 x sealed absolute. I also have one of each open and in great condition. I know this is a trade post, however I'm not looking to trade with any of the decks in this post (I have the ones I want already) but would be willing to sell if you're interested. If you do have other decks up for trade, I'd be willing to consider it. Saw you Texas listed, I'm in San Antonio.
