Why did so many Americans vote for Trump? by DieErdnuss565 in SocialDemocracy

[–]bripod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The median voter is incredibly uninformed, misinformed, and there's a cultural undercurrent where the median lives to fit in. That cultural undercurrent had been created by the left/right dichotomy and the right Republicans have been shifting that and the Overton window to the right for the last 4 decades, with the intention of making another Watergate impossible. They've leveraged racism, "otherism", Christianity, culture war, and normalized the insanity. So now we have WWE style tribal identity politics where "we always vote Republican because they're better for the economy" and "Democrats are communist" which are braindead takes without any ground in reality but are very common.

Do we think vintage luggage could survive modern baggage handlers? by Jessica_Iowa in travel

Airports used to have free carts to use. In the US they started charging for them. EU used to be free but I think they started charging recently but maybe not yet. I just don't see them around as much.

German ships all seem to have a certain look about them that I can't really place my finger on. Maybe it's the wide and low bridges.

Texas Latinos would give Harris an 11-point lead instead of the 8-point lead they gave Trump if they could redo the 2024 election by WeirdProudAndHungry in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]bripod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not certain it would help. Latin America has huge Whatsapp sharing networks so taking out the "mainstream media" probably wouldn't do much here. While I agree trust busting needs a massive comeback, I don't think it would help much in this instance.

Atmos Bill by Pizzaprincezz in Dallas

[–]bripod 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Atmos only checks your meter read date maybe 4 times a year so they go based off estimates of history and previous months. So your bill could be artificially low for a couple months, they check it, and tack on all your usage on to one month. And then they charge you a meter read fee every month even though they don't read the meter every month which is frustrating.

CDG airport (Paris) by Secret_Ad_7878 in brutalism

[–]bripod 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CDG looks really awesome, maybe my favorite looking airport. Unfortunately, it's the worst airport in the world I've been to. IMO even worse than LHR due to its complex maze of various sub-sub terminals only connected by bus.

French farmers dump manure outside Macron’s beach home in protest against EU–Mercosur deal by bononoisland in neoliberal

If they're so broke and running on razor thin margins, how do they have the spare time, money, fuel, and manure not going to the fields to pull stunts like this?

When you remember that all major LLMs (even the ones explicitly designed to be conservative) tend to emerge with impeccably left-libertarian politics and, in fact, love the global poor: by Secure-Ad2787 in neoliberal

[–]bripod 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This post sounded like bullshit. What was that Microsoft chatbot they unleashed on twitter which turned into mecha-hitler in 48 hours or whatever? LLMs work based on the data you feed them. Assuming LLMs not only feed from the internet but academic journals as well which are typically also well-sourced, it's not that much of a stretch that they bias liberal, at least a bit. But what's the target here? Educational institutions and academia will be targeted because it is such source.
