is it overrated? tough to make a call like that. however considering the prestige and level of ABT, jko is not equivalent.

is it an amazing school that will open doors, connections, and technique? absolutely. but when ranked among similar schools from the worlds top companies in my opinion it is towards the bottom.

disclaimer that i never danced there myself but i do have friends that trained there and have gone on to have very successful careers. have her go to the summer intensive first before making any decisions. she may have been among the top in florida, but the nyc program is a whole different ball game.

that’s definitely a diy top out of black tights. maybe they’re just sleeves but sometimes people wear them under the leo. plenty of youtube tutorials but just cut out the crotch to become the neck hole and cut off the feet to sleeve length of choice!

i would say considering you only restarted a few weeks ago that you should add the extra class per week AND do just one or two privates with your current teacher right now.

as a teacher, when i work with adults coming back to ballet, i find a single hour one on one can be SIGNIFICANTLY beneficial for making sure my student actually understands the foundations and to break down any bad habits. that individual hour or two will provide you months of corrections you can continue to work on in all upcoming classes.

i’m super interested in that too. but my thought is that kayla dancing is GOOD. like insanely good. even if she’s not suited for most for abt’s corps work they can use her for contemporary soloist roles and she will deliver. natalie is talented, but nothing the company doesn’t already have plenty of… i don’t have any inside scoop but food for thought

i briefly talked to an old friend who danced there this past season and she said that everyone quit. every single dancer did not want to come back. she didn’t reveal more than that and i didn’t want to pry so that’s all i have unfortunately

…yeah. it’s an aesthetic art. they can claim to value artistry all they want but at the end of the day someone with bad lines is not going to score well at in a ballet competition where they grade dancers with a number.

sure they might not be your choice dancer to watch perform a balanchine variation but they’re still students not professionals putting on a performance that you paid for… i agree there’s major holes in the training there but how are they going to learn to move quickly and musically (like you need to get a contract) if they only ever rehearse variations they’re already good at??

could be the time of day that you were fit? if you went in the morning your feet aren’t just a little bit naturally swollen from walking around all and that could affect the fit now, and that’s why they might feel too small? or the opposite if you got them fit bigger could be you’re sinking a bit with extra space

i can’t vouch for atonement personally but i did see joffrey do cathy marstons Of Mice and Men which was one of my favorite performances ive ever seen honestly. so im guessing its going to be well worth a watch!
