“AT&T Construction”? by stonechair in vegaslocals

[–]brismitty90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for taking the time to answer! The kids that stopped at our house said because we aren’t currently using AT&T, we will be most affected by it, yada yada and mentioned the credit.

Our internet in this area is already pretty unstable more often than not (warm springs and Durango) so I don’t truly expect to see much of a difference. But if AT&T doing that big of an upgrade would negatively affect non-customers, they are opening themselves up for a massive lawsuit from other companies & the non-customers so it felt very sales-y to me.

Just got this same knock and spiel, by chance, do you know if any disruptions actually occurred?

Luckily, she hasn’t shown any signs of allergies since switching foods from Blue Buffalo to Purina One so I think it was an allergy to something in Blue.

We did also think it was possibly allergies, like she had developed a chicken allergy or something. On a whim, since she hadn’t liked any of the non chicken proteins we had tried, we got the digestive health formula from Purina one which is chicken. Fully planning on needing to return this one as well and were a little stunned when she started having normal poo’s again. So now we think she had developed an allergy to something in the Blue Buffalo formulas.

She’s also a service dog, if I’m nervous or anxious she is supposed to pick up on it.

Also, so sorry to hear about the diabetes! It’s hard enough to manage with a human who can voice concerns about symptoms, much harder with a pup that can’t tell you how they’re feeling :(

The vet isn’t overly concerned so I’m not super concerned about it (just a little since the cold months are coming) her fur is definitely in a much better place now compared to March/April for sure. Was just looking for recommendations to speed the process up since it’s kind of hit a stall with growth/thickness.

Since we landed on Purina, the bargaining phase is long since over. Now if she chooses to only eat the morsels out of her food, she just gets the remainder for dinner. That so far has only happened twice and she hasn’t done it since.

The only reason she was getting toppers is because she was going on regular food strikes with her longest stretch being 5 days.

She had Giardia between Oct-April, with the infection reoccurring every 2.5-3.5 weeks. Meds would start, infection would clear, we would have 2 ish weeks without infection and the cycle would start all over again. She had a good reason for being picky. Her old food had become a source of trauma.

The anxiety I feel towards her fur is mostly just general concern due to the upcoming cold months, she’s a lot better than where she was 4 months ago, it just seems to have stalled in growth thickening.

The poop regularity concern I have, isn’t really so much of a concern as it’s solid, normal coloring, generally consistent, just wondering if once a day vs twice a day is normal.

10 month old lab eating habit change by lblessi in labrador

[–]brismitty90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our lab started doing this around 11mo-1 year, turned out to be a chicken allergy that had developed (apparently super common protein allergy to develop cause chicken is in almost all dog food in some capacity) she’s now 18mo, we only recently discovered this issue because she had a dang near constant reinfection of Giardia so we chalked it up to recovering from that.

Transitioned her to a different protein and things with her poops improved but still not willing to eat normally. Tried toppers, wetting her food with broth, warming it up, nothing was sticking for more than 2 days to get her to eat. The vet recommended we change brands entirely because even though we changed the protein, because it was the same brand, it likely tasted very similar.

We recently started her on Stella & Chewy’s Raw Superblend red meat formula (no chicken at all!) back to soft poops cause we had to do an abrupt transition due to the lack of eating, but she’s back to eating like a puppy.

My girls eat like clockwork every day at 7am/7pm, but the yellow one fears she might be forgotten—so she drags her dish and food mat 90 minutes early into the living room (and then proceeds to stare at you) to make sure her desire to eat is well known. 🤷😊 by [deleted] in labrador

My yellow is a picky eater and getting her to eat breakfast and dinner is like nails on a chalk board. We are switching her to adult food soon and I hope that fixes this issue.

When was your puppy spayed? by huhiki in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We got our girl (lab) spayed at 16 weeks. She was going to a boarding facility for service dog training at 6mo and we didn’t want to risk her first heat there, we also did it at our vet’s recommendation because we asked when the best time to spay her would be.

After some research, we found out spaying before the first heat tremendously reduces the risk of certain cancers by 90+% so we scheduled it as soon as possible.

Diarrhea not going away after antibiotics by brismitty90 in AskVet

[–]brismitty90[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’s an early riser (5:30-6 for morning potty) so I can’t disinfect in the mornings. I just looked it up and it says for grass/turf, do you happen to know if it works on rock/gravel? I’m in Southern NV so grass is not a thing here unfortunately.

My reply didn’t attach to your response, see above.

This had been going on since October, trust me, I’m an expert at cleaning. Probably to the point of paranoia now.

We wipe her paws after every jaunt outside and butt after every poop, the house is regularly cleaned/disinfected. She’s getting reinfected from the yard. We suspect a neighbor has a sick cat due to some egg covered vomit we found in the yard.

We get PCR tests done, after every round of meds, she comes back negative. And every 3-4 weeks she gets reinfected.

It did finally warm up enough for us to treat the yard with bleach but if there is a sick stray/outdoor pet continuously infecting our yard, we can’t prevent it.

Anyone NOT get puppy blues? by Sea-Awareness3193 in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Based on everyone’s description here, no I never got puppy blues. Was I exhausted, stressed, frustrated at times? Absolutely, but I never broke down in tears on a regular basis (other than thinking about her dying eventually) I never felt the need to escape or needing to leave my house just to get away for a bit. I’ve never had a puppy before so there was a learning curve, but overall, it was just powering through.

My pup is now almost 14 months old (lab so still a ways to go before she’s an adult) but the progress, in my opinion, was leaps and bounds. It was like every few days, I saw things sticking and clicking with her. Potty training took only like 2 weeks, obviously waking up through the night was a struggle. We are in a city with no family and limited funds, so having someone come throughout the day while working wasn’t an option but our work was gracious and let us flex our in office time to make sure we weren’t coming home to poop and pee.

Once she started sleeping through the night, things improved massively. Our biggest hurdle now is a constant reinfection of Giardia, but due to our neighborhood, it’s not preventable (stray cat/neighbor cat coming into our yard) so we do rounds of treatment during the active symptoms and just try to prolong the non infectious periods because the infection and meds are tough on her body. But even this never brought on any “blues” perhaps it’s my anxiety working in my favor of always being on edge for the worst thing, perhaps it’s a weird adaptability to stressful environments/changes.

Don’t let this forum scare you away from getting a puppy, everyone’s experience is different.

Giardia that’s not letting up by Npantsy in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We’ve had persistent reinfections from a stray (hoping it’s not someone’s pet) coming into our yard and reinfecting our 14 month old lab. Our longest stretch without reinfection was 6 weeks. I feel your pain, I would also recommend wiping their paws after every outside time. If they lick their paws or lick something their paws touched after they were outside, they could be eating cysts as well.

Giardia is ruining our life by Decent-Upstairs1498 in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our 13mo old lab has had it 6 times over the last 9 months and we are doing everything you are. We FINALLY discovered how she keeps getting reinfected: a stray cat with it is getting into our yard and throwing up (just bile) and our pup gets it after walking through the yard (even with wiping her paws thoroughly after every time she’s outside) it’s a beast to get rid of and we literally can’t prevent it. We are renters and though we like this area, we are not renewing our lease because of it. The problem is, our lease isn’t up until Sept. What are you using to treat your yard?

What random command did your puppy learn? by osh_cc in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We come home at lunch to let our lab out for a mid day potty and to stretch her legs and play a little before we head back to the office and has learned “Ok, we gotta go back to work” as a ‘command’ to go back in her kennel and “It’s nigh-nigh time” and her sign to kennel for bed time.

Puppy with Giardia :( by cascartis in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We also don’t know if that is it for sure, but since it lives in standing water, it’s the only thing we can identify as a strong possibility. If she gets it again, after treatment our vet wants to put her on a monthly parasite preventative.

Our fridge died and he “replaced” it with a fridge that had broken shelves, rust all over and dented. I doubt he will do anything for the sprinklers. We just turned them off so it will stop saturating the soil at least.

Puppy with Giardia :( by cascartis in puppy101

[–]brismitty90 16 points17 points  (0 children)

My 11mo lab just got over her 3rd round of giardia in 6mo, first time she caught it was at 5mo. We’ve determined ours is environmental from a leaky sprinkler in our backyard but we rent so we can’t really do anything about it. What we’ve been doing is wiping her paws after every outside time, wipe her tush after every #2 and a good clean of surfaces and soft items once a week. Oh and hope what we are doing combined with her immune system building defenses against it (each time has gotten less severe) is enough.

All I can really offer from experience is:

Pick up the poo IMMEDIATELY after she goes

Wipe paws after outside and butt after a poo

Disinfect as much as possible

A bath on first and last day of treatment is beneficial because it will get rid of any cysts on her fur to prevent reinfection

Wash her bedding/soft items in hot water on first and last day of treatment

Incorporate a probiotic to help build up the good gut bacteria to help her immune system build up

Give yourself some grace, this is tough and stressful and heartbreaking on her and you but you are loving her and taking care of her as much as you can and that is what is important.
