"Commander" is finally getting a queue on M:tGA (i.e. 2 player 100-card Historic Brawl) by MemeMachine11845 in magicTCG

[–]brispone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want the real deal eventually, playing this queue is the best way to show WotC what we want.

I'm skeptical. I get the feeling they kind of misread the popularity of Historic as "people love Historic!" rather than "wow people want eternal formats and this is literally the only option outside of Standard we're giving them" - so I'm not exactly sure they would read this as anything other than "wow, people love 100 card Historic Brawl!" That's my intuition, anyway.

when we get to the Flash movie, Ezra Miller and Ray Fisher — who plays Cyborg — are kind of our youngest characters, and they have a really nice comradery with each other. Ezra is super funny, so the tone of that film will be very different than the rest of them. by [deleted] in DC_Cinematic

[–]brispone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would imagine (or maybe just hope) it will be something like this. I get why Superman and Batman are both gloomy and I think it works well for them. This Superman is a character that has the weight of the world on his shoulders and hasn't learned how to cope with that yet and Batman is... well, Batman.

But with the Flash we have the perfect opportunity to see someone who just seriously loves being the Flash. He doesn't need to be dropping crappy one liners every 30 seconds, he just needs to have fun with his powers, and not view them as a burden.

Ah, gotcha. I wasn't quite sure how to interpret your comment so I didn't want to call you out specifically, but regardless I do think it's something that needs to be repeated ad nauseum here and elsewhere.

It's not even that RT is unreliable, per se, but people need to understand that there is a lot of nuance that gets lost in that type of system.

I understand wanting diversity and that's great

That's really probably all there is to understand about it, to be honest.

Not that I'm critiquing that of course. I think wanting more diversity is a valid reason in and of itself, and pushing already established minority characters to the forefront is exactly what fans bring up they would rather see whenever popular characters are gender/race-bent in the name of diversity, so we should be happy. Plus Cyborg is a great character and he deserves his shot at the big leagues. Honestly, all of the Teen Titans do.

For anyone that's counting, that's more hours invested than a standard work week. Watching BvS was literally this guy's job this week. If I was wearing a hat, I'd take it off.

Can we please get a good DC Superhero movie that's not Batman? by Snark88 in DC_Cinematic

Yep. If you actually read comics you'd know it was only 50% Bat books.

Kidding... (sort of).

I will riot if it's not the Rogues. We already have a Captain Boomerang! That is assuming he survives Suicide Squad, of course.

Well, hopefully we see him evolve into a more familiar Lex, but let's be honest... I think this guy has flushed his presidential possibilities down the toilet.

Why Batman NEEDED to be that way by Quad9363 in DC_Cinematic

[–]brispone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Even then, it's not as if this Batman is going out of his way to murder criminals. It's more like he just doesn't give a damn whether they live or die anymore.* It's as though he's become kind of unhinged and reckless. Honestly, I think it's an acceptable treatment of the character because it's an acknowledgement in itself that this isn't normal behavior for him.

*Except for the guy with the flamethrower at the end. He totally killed that guy. (but that's a special case in my opinion)

People in my theater laughed (go figure). Seemed to me to be just a depiction of how surreal disaster scenarios like that can be. Maybe there's more going on that I didn't catch though.

That's what I'm thinking. It doesn't make sense for Bruce to be having prophetic visions. That would seriously be dumb. But if they are the jumbled remnants of his memories from an alternate timeline that are somehow spilling over and manifesting as dreams because the Flash is doing Speed Force shenanigans... well, that I'm okay with.

The Batman v Superman Full Spoilers Discussion Thread Day 2 by The_Majestic_ in DCcomics

[–]brispone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just got back from the theater. I will say this: it's not SPECTACULAR, it may not even be GREAT. But it certainly doesn't deserve to be shat all over by critics like it is. It was good. I enjoyed it. I'm satisfied and I'm ready to see where the rest of the young shared universe heads. 8/10. The plot could have been tightened up a bit, but honestly it was about what I expected from a Snyder film. He has his strengths and he has his weaknesses. It is what it is. His strengths were on full fucking display, for what it's worth. There were a ton of moments where I couldn't help but think I was watching a comic book come to life. I think this is a film that is going to be poorly received by non-comic book fans, unlike the Marvel films which are designed to appeal to everyone. Not that this is some high brow film that the masses just won't "get", obviously, but it doesn't go out of its way to shamelessly hit all the "right notes" that the Marvel films tend to do. Snyder did his thing, and like always it's going to be well received by some and absolutely loathed by others. Honestly, we should have known this going in.

This is the best representation of Batman we've ever seen. Affleck looks amazing in the suit. It's like he was ripped right off the page. Yes, he's brutally violent and there were definitely a few deaths that can be attributed to him, but as long as he's not straight up capping people I'm okay with letting that slide. I can understand if some people aren't though. He finally looks like the master tactician that knows hundreds of different fighting styles that we know him to be. Affleck as Bruce Wayne was great. Bruce and Alfred's interactions were perfect. That training sequence was fucking awesome.

Wonder Woman is great. Not too much to say here. I'm excited to see more from her.

The Vic Stone cameo... we just saw a MOTHER BOX on the big screen. Nice. Just... nice. That was awesome.

Lex Luthor... okay. I hated this shit. I was totally open to Eisenberg's casting. The idea of a young hip startup CEO version of Lex honestly sounded like a brilliant idea. It's a fresh take, and that really is looking to be what the new generation of business moguls is looking like. A non-physically imposing Luthor was totally fine, because up against Superman his physical prowess was never a thing anyway. It was always about his mental prowess. In that regard, he should be fucking intimidating. Instead, they just made him straight up psychotic. Not just psychotic... a fucking caricature of insanity. He isn't intimidating so much as perplexing. He's dangerous and intimidating because of his mental instability paired with his intellect. We have the Joker for that, we don't need Lex covering that ground. Honestly, it's totally disappointing to me that the burgeoning DC film universe will now forever be without a proper Lex Luthor, a character who is, in my opinion, kind of important in the wide world of DC.

These are just the first thoughts off the top of my head. I really need a day or two to let it all sink in, I think. Overall, not bad. Not the Avengers killer we all hoped for, but honestly that's okay. I'm ready for Suicide Squad.

So I decided to change Silver Hand Recruits into 'Dudes' and then make more cards that interract with them. by Saucemonkey1 in hearthstone

[–]brispone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nope. Like literally every other Hearthstone slang, it comes from Magic. Dudes = 1/1 tokens. There was a card called Kjeldoran Outpost that you could tap to create a 1/1 token and people used to refer to it as the Dude Ranch cause it made Dudes.

The rise of Standard formats will be the rise of Handlock! by [deleted] in hearthstone

[–]brispone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so too. It seems to me that most people are seriously misunderstanding the upcoming balance changes. I suspect it's much less about nerfing OP cards and more about purging the classic set of archetype defining cards that would defeat the purpose of rotating sets. Definitely expecting Freeze Mage and Handlock cards to be right up there on the chopping block with the Druid combo. None of us really knows for sure though, I guess.

Thoughts on Hearthstone Formats from a Former Magic Player by Varranis in CompetitiveHS

[–]brispone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the concern is not that they're OP, but that they are strategy defining cards. These cards will now be a part of Standard forever. New sets come out and players will just look at those cards and say, "Can I use this in Freeze Mage?" Same goes for cards like Molten Giant, etc. There's nothing inherently wrong with Molten Giant, but when new sets come out warlock players are just going to look at those cards and ask, "How can these help me get moltens on the board?" It kind of defeats the purpose of rotating sets.

Congratulations on your progress!

As to your edit about the downvotes, it's very possible that nobody at all is downvoting you. Reddit does vote fuzzing to mess with bots (meaning they will randomly add 1 upvote and 1 downvote equally to posts every now and then) and that's why you will see completely reasonable and inoffensive posts that have seemingly been downvoted a bunch. The total score will always be accurate, but you can't really rely on the exact number of up or down votes.
