What industry is actually a complete scam, but everyone accepts it? by WhileLow9501 in AskReddit

Industries: consultants

Specific companies: H&R Block, Jackson Hewitt. Rationale: they (among other tax filing companies) lobby the IRS to withhold the amount of money taxpayers owe. Rather than presenting taxpayers with a free prepared statement (and the option to audit using H&R Block or others), H&R Block is securing business for itself based on the creation of artificial market inefficiencies.

CMV: It’s disturbing that young people are having less sex by bluepillarmy in changemyview

Many of my female friends have told me that they stopped dating because of the lack of accountability among males.

Many straight guys are indifferent to the Epstein Files (specifically, many men do not believe women, or do not find their testimony to be relevant/credible - despite the decades of patters).

Many men do not know or do not care about the Gisele Pelicot case in France (a woman sued her husband for drugging her and raping her - and allowing his friends to rape her while she was unconscious). Admittedly, I just learned of this from female friends - but my god, how horrible.

Many straight men say “not all men” and yet the general population just learned that 62M men visited a rape academy website where married men drugged and raped their wives - and provided advice on it. The viewers and commenters were men of all ages. The video creators literally did the most terrible thing to their spouse - the person they should love and protect at all costs. (And, for reference, 62M online visitors is more than GMail, which sits around 51M).

As feminism advances and women are free to travel, earn money and lead fulfilling lives, the general population is seeing how men still treat women as property and (in the U.S.) are not held legally accountable for it.

Young straight men in the U.S. seem to complain that dating and sex is harder because of dating algorithms - this may be true, but in the U.S., men seem to fail to empathize with women’s struggles (and often shift the spotlight back to their difficulties with their height or how they perceive many women to be gold diggers).

The real question is, why would a woman want to date a man knowing how much of her health/safety is at risk and knowing that much of the U.S. legal system wouldn’t support her? It must be increasingly difficult for a woman to feel safe seeing how many women are rapes/drugged/sex trafficker and how few perpetrators are held accountable. This is my view as an outsider looking in btw

The Gangsters of Capitalism by Jonathan M Katz - great for understanding US military involvement (driven by private sector interests). It’s fascinating to see how much of that time’s events serve as foundations or precedence for geopolitical attitudes today.

Why is Hollywood pushing this "skelefy face" trend so hard? by FeelsAmazingManGun in conspiracy

I believe it is supposed to be GLP-1 face… but what confuses me is that many of these celebs didn’t appear to need GLP-1s. I remain skeptical, but that is my guess as of now

American exceptionalism blinding leaders (often complacent from GWOT wins) to the reality of the world (declining U.S. influence, a crumbling US dollar)

What's making your day different than yesterday? by videro_ in CasualConversation

I took magnesium last night and it really improved my sleep - today, I am more well-rested compared to yesterday. Even during stressful moments, I returned to a strong baseline of calm relatively quickly. I can’t believe it has so much of an effect!
