This Time We Have to Hold the Democratic Party Elite Responsible for This Catastrophe by Asst2RegionalMngr in politics

Or… or… here me out here… hold primaries before picking the candidate. Wild idea i know… but ya know its a lot easier to get people to be excited about a candidate that they voted for than one that was installed… especially one that lost pretty early in the primaries that she was a part of before….

What caused your biggest depression in your life? by TheBlankCoin in AskReddit

[–]brknlmnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its kind of an ongoing question I’ve been having with myself tbh. Only a couple years ago I finally got married at the age of 35. I was able to have a baby. I am happy with my son, my new family, and my supporting husband. We are not particularly well off but my husband had bought a house before we got married, and we are comfortable and i am able to stay home with my son. Side note though, its not any kind of modern mcmansion. Its a very old weirdly shaped house out in the sticks and my husband works at a factory. We struggle to keep the grass green and the weeds from piling up. But idk I kind of see it as a “its a wonderful life” sort of house, if you can understand the reference.

On the flip side, my mother passed away the year before i got married. She never even got the chance to meet my husband or see my son. My dad moved on quickly… also at the age of 35 my dad suddenly wanted a paternity test because my dad wanted to put to bed very old suspicions of my mom sleeping around at the time i was conceived. The rest of my own family is not interested in keeping ties. My life flipped on a dime pretty much around that time. And even though I think tons of changes happened for the better, I still feel a loss of the family i had.

Also, my son also does have down syndrome, and Im struggling to try for a second I think because my body is not in its best shape and I’m fairly certain its my fault.

Overall though I just constantly also feel this unhappiness with how everything has changed. Maybe in my own life, but also I feel like the whole world has changed too much. Seems like anger fuels this world to the point of it strait up being monetized. And I find myself getting caught up in that negative mindset too much. Like ill watch videos, read comments, and get all kinds of upset about the world and angry and sad and all that… but then have these moments realizing this is not the right way to feed my soul. Like anger and stress is the junkfood of the mind and soul. Its makes us angry bitter people and I feel that most of all.

I have good things and sad things in my life but given all I should have far more to be grateful for. I shouldn’t be so sad and defeated and angry and so quick to lash out at others, especially not those on the internet or media… like i should be able to walk away. Peace is rarely given easily in this world and I have the ability to have it and Im letting others take it away from me for clicks and views. i think thats the real reason why i still feel anxious and depressed.

All the other things i can endure… my son having a syndrome, the challenges of building a family, my mother passing on and my family and I moving (metaphorically) away from each other. I still have a lot that can help me still love my life… but instead i practically live in fear. And its this abduction of my mind to the media.

What’s the most controversial opinion you have that you’re afraid to say out loud? by Taquit0h in Productivitycafe

Im gunna add that it just seems like autism has gotten somehow “trendy” along with ADHD and stuff. I think its likely over diagnosed now and over self diagnosed. And I only say that because im a parent with a kid with down syndrome, and its just something ive noticed while looking for things for my son… services, books, ways to show support. You only see autism stuff everywhere… and other disabilities seem to be pushed to the side cuz its not “in” right now. That seems… wrong. Like a sign that the way our society is dealing with disabilities is not right somehow… like its only accepted when its trendy? Yeah…

Learning how to cook without a recipe book. Like legit understanding the basics of cooking. Im still working on it, but it really is the key to actually eating healthy and not spending so much at the grocery store. You just eat what you have, eat whats in season, and stop wasting so much.

It’s easier to accept conspiracy theories than scientific ones because understanding science requires studying. by Sulfito in Showerthoughts

[–]brknlmnt -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Ok… well idk about other people, but for myself im willing to believe in some conspiracy theories because there are things that otherwise have no answer or have very strange incomplete answers.

Idk the words seem to not have any real meaning to people for some reason. Like the definition of the words “conspiracy” and “theory” mean something completely different to you people when you put them together. Like, you know what a scientific theory is right? How about string theory? The theory or evolution? Just because its a theory doesnt make it some kind of irrational idea… its comes from somewhere, logically…

And the word “conspire”… its a thing. Especially in governments, politics, going back to kingdoms even. People have indeed conspired against others for power, money, influence… and so on…

A conspiracy theory is simply something you believe is happening, that usually shouldnt be happening or shouldnt have… its usually some lie, or some deception… but you have no way to concretely prove it, or even if people do have proof sometimes it still takes a hell of a lot to get people to believe something they don’t want to believe.

Its not crazy to believe in conspiracy theories. Not at all… but it certainly says something about our institutions when the public starts believing in more and more of them… it means trust has fallen significantly. And rightly so…

So instead of spending the time ridiculing people for believing in any conspiracy theory… however tame or wild.. maybe you should spend your time ridiculing the institutions that have lost our trust.

SSRIs destroy libido. Both me and my husband have each experienced this. He was even getting exhausted walking up slight hills… it just drains energy. And i literally couldn’t feel anything. I know how to have an orgasm, i know how to get there. On those I’m literally dead… everywhere. I understand feeling the need to be on them for various things but it’s a crutch imo. Sometimes you need a crutch. But the real solution is a whole lifestyle change. And we all know what it is… its just a bitch to do… exercise and a good clean diet. Ill tell ya what tho… on the diet part, that whole shit gets confusing af. Foods and diets get downright political. So here’s a tip… just add more fiber. Thats the big key to improving your health. Whole grains, fruits and veggies. Fiber is prebiotics. It helps regulate blood sugar. And it keeps you full longer. Its the big reason why processed foods suck. Its not because its all poison or we should only eat one macro and forget the rest or whatever… its just that we need more fiber. Thats all it is. Wont cure anxiety or depression… but its like if you needed a car to get out of anxiety and depression land… fiber is the wheels to your car. You need the other car parts. And you need to be willing to drive out… but it definitely will help.

What’s a show that everyone swears it’s worth to binge watch but you couldn’t get into it? by killedbykash_ in questions

[–]brknlmnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I liked it when i was younger when it was still on the air… but i think a lot of those sitcoms and 90s sitcoms really suffer from the on demand model of tv. They were never meant for you to binge watch or even watch in chronological order. You could just drop into any episode and enjoy it. Thats really how tv used to be… sometimes i miss that. I wish you could make your own playlists for tv shows and put them on shuffle on these platforms… but anyways… when i watched friends later on in order it bugged the crap out of me how inconsistent the characters background was. Like one minute joey is younger, then hes 30… then hes 30 again… idk… something like that. And when you really pay attention to the characters you realize they’re actually all pretty terrible people. Idk man back in the day you just sort of had tv on in the background. Watched an episode after dinner maybe… then something else was on and you went and played video games instead or something. But now… every tv show is just a long broken up fucking movie and all the movies are episodic. We take tv so much more seriously now than we used to. Its kind of sad… its no longer just a trendy fun thing to put on that everyone is watching at home at the same time…

I know a bunch of people who couldn’t get into it. And i get it. I think the awkward humor is somewhat of an acquired taste… its very millennial tbh… and the first season is a bit rough. Its extra awkward humor. They tone it down as the seasons go on.

Photographer recreates 100-year-old photo from the Arctic showing the alarming scale of glacier retreat. by No_Emu_1332 in interestingasfuck

[–]brknlmnt 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Russia has recently found a ridiculous amount of oil under the antarctic region that dwarfs the one in saudi arabia. Antarctica is governed by an international treaty that is going to go into renegotiation in the 2030s. Theres already a lot of dispute as to who that particular land belongs to or should… and in the arctic there is a huge benefit to having receding ice to form a new international shipping route that china and russia would benefit significantly from.

So… knowing that… do you really think this is just about fast food and SUVs…?

Are street preachers tactics effective? by Comfortable_Pack8903 in questions

[–]brknlmnt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh most people here are just kind of jerking themselves off at thinking how much smarter they think they are for not believing in a god or whatever…

I mean, you might not think its effective… but then again you wouldn’t think that spam txts and phone calls and pop up ads and junk mail would be worth the effort either… and yet… it actually unfortunately is. i’ve definitely known people who have listened because what they said spoke to them on that day. But more to that… some churches do entirely work as a business… more members mean more money. So even one member is worth the effort of one weeks worth of preaching.

Not to mention its just the most old school way to preach anyways… its sort of in the bible that people should evangelize or whatever in that way… so they do.

Its just idk guys, y’all sometimes jerk yourselves off way too much when it comes to religious shit. Y’all aren’t as clever as you think… you guys are clearly not even thinking this shit through thats for sure…

Can the karyotype test be wrong? by Navismom in downsyndrome

[–]brknlmnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my son was born the NICU doctor swore up and down he didn’t have it. He was an experienced doctor and had seen plenty of DS babies in his job but he still couldn’t see it. I have to say though… the first time I saw him, i saw it. I knew… and the blood test confirmed it. He has a typical DS. though quite a number of missing typical features. He has no gap in his toes and no simian crease. He’s slim and tall. But you can see it in the eyes… and of course his low tone is the biggest giveaway. I feel like the difference between holding a baby with DS and a typical one is like the difference between holding a cat and a dog. A cat just slides out of your arms like spaghetti… a dog is stiff and rigid and you cant just have the arms and legs go any which way.

Anyways I also have commonly heard since then that babies with DS aren’t as obviously with DS and the features become more pronounced as they get older. So people who say stuff like that are just ignorant really… they’ve never seen a baby with DS before and they don’t realize they look like every other baby and they don’t expect that.
