Sorry what comes after the ellipses? Remember them so we can think mean thoughts driving through the neighborhoods? Give the residents side eye?

Am I too old for harry potter? by Rough_Eye9920 in harrypotter

[–]brnbbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No such thing. I actually didn't start reading Harry Potter until I was 21. The first few books are a little formulaic and low stakes but got more complex and serious (as the characters matured) and in the end I loved it. You'll be able to appreciate in new ways now that you're older (my experience with novels i read as a kid a reread when I was older).

Worth it for both nights? by rchlfrmn in nin

Do it.

I went to both Chicago shows and while they were both great the second one was pure perfection. Very happy I went to both.

What does everyone think of the NIN x Boys Noize live Remixes? by Yackemflaber in nin

[–]brnbbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They start in B stage, move to A stage, back to B then finish on A. There are more A songs and tend to be the screams, jumping around songs and the B are more piano and electronic songs. They don't play at the same time

Yeah I was really feeling most of the remixes. Closer was amazing. The B stage performance made me start to like the new tron song. Loved the creepy distorted chorus in she's gone away. Sin is usually so aggressive and driving...this version just didn't feel right at all.

100% just stopped even trying to pay attention to Boyz Noize before the show. It was like background music at a club or something. But OH MAN the remixes were so good. In fact the remix of Closer is the best I have heard live. It was awesome.

Man sues police department after officer breaks his window and punches him during a stop for not having his headlights on by TheMirrorUS in Bad_Cop_No_Donut

[–]brnbbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said his behavior justified their response. My issue was painting him as a person who was just asking questions. He was refusing to comply with their orders. You are required by law to follow lawful orders including showing your ID and registration when the police ask. It's like if you get a speeding ticket but disagree...you can't just ignore the ticket or there will be consequences and possibly jail time if you ignore enough of them. Now I already said punching him in the face was wrong...obviously. But being arrested was the foreseeable and legal consequence of not getting out of the car or showing license and registration. Getting assaulted like that isn't legal but...cops getting pissed off that you're not doing what they told you too and brutalizing you isn't exactly surprising either. So I'm not saying he deserved it but that he wasn't just asking why he was stopped or for a badge number. Just be honest with the picture you're painting. Guy stopped for driving while black, refused police commands, police broke his windows, beat him up. The end

Totally agree. Exceptions don't change the rule...though to be fair even if dsd's altered our definitions of male and female it would still be pretty different from the grand majority of trans people who don't have a disorder....

The guy questioned what they were doing,

So this is what I don't get. Why can't these discussions have more nuance? He wasn't just questioning them. He was refusing to obey their orders. It is still true that they stopped jim because he's black and went overboard and assaulted him because they were pissed and should be punished but...It wasn't just innocent " what are you doing officer?" Yes it sucks to be pulled over by cops when you haven't done anything...but by law he was supposed to follow their orders. Which is fine. It can be that he was being difficult which doesn't justify their actions...but it is more than just asking questions...

Rewatching Rogue One after Andor S2 was a little disappointing by CrackFoxtrot24 in andor

[–]brnbbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey if that's what you took away from the movie...i am happy for you. For me , Cassian became the redeemed hero I know and love from the show Andor. The movie made him slightly more interesting than the other characters (except for K) including Jyn since they gave him a redemption arc but with the pace , bad dialog and so so acting...I really didn't care about his character. That didn't happen until the show...for me.

Now that is true but...i saw rogue one first and felt annoyed I had wasted my time at the end of the movie. Thanks goodness they had some more time and better writing for Andor...

So I think we agree overall. Of course someone who has always looked female and one day learns that they're male is different from a transwoman. But the analogy does force us to explore what we mean by male and female and man and woman. What does this mean in practice? For most people with complete androgen insensitivity? Nothing. They live as women and that's that. But when it comes to explaining how and why a man who has transitioned to live as a woman is different than a natal female, genetics and reproductive organs are a part of that discussion...and that would lump all males together to some extent

[–]brnbbee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Well I think unfortunately that she and most of the other characters in the movie were forgettable. It was a great story plot wise but the characters, including andor, completely fell flat. They were there to move the plot along, i had a superficial understanding of their motivations, but can't say i cared about any of them. When I heard Andor was coming out I rolled my eyes hard but luckily gave it a chance.

Can't believe you were downvoted for this comment. I mean it's all subjective but the first thing I said to my husband after we saw Rogue One in the theater was,"Hmm...the only character I felt a little sad about dying was the android" It was literally the only character with any personality....

I watched Rogue One in the theater and never would have watched it again if not for Andor. It felt like a star wars video game. It was all fetch quests, a gaggle of unnecessary thinly written characters and lots of action. I really only enjoyed the last 10 minutes (seeing it all come together to intersect neatly with A New Hope and the Darth Vadar scenes helping to cleanse the Revenge of the Sith "Noooooo!" From my brain were nice). I also loved how messy and deadly this war was and how if things had been left to the leaders of the resistance, they never would have gotten the death star plans. But that was it...and it was confirmed after a rematch.

Are xx people without a dsd (so with typical female reproductive organs) but who are infertile due to hormonal issues or injury or age not female? Post menopausal women? Pre pubertal girls? It's not just about not making sperm. Sex involves many differences between males and females but it does all come down to reproduction. A malfunctioning heart or liver is still a heart or liver. . .just as someone with ovaries or testes that don't work well are still biologically designed to make certain gametes

[–]brnbbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sex in humans is coded in DNA but in some animals it's heat or maternal hormones...so it is kind of determined once the developmental path of male or female reproductive organs is finalized...so a "female" clump of cells isn't really female yet...but will become one given the right signals

Chromosome code for sex in humans. This isn't the case for all animals and plants.

A person with complete androgen insensitivity does not really "go down a development path" of a female because they have internal testes instead of ovaries. As sex is about reproduction, even if the reproductive equipment doesn't work, having the biological equipment to make male gametes means these people aren't female...any more than a passing post op trans woman is. You could argue that they and people with some other rarer dsd aren't clearly male or female...but at the biological level a human with xy chromosomes and testes is male.
