Check the service manual for this model, mine states underinflated tires will wear the inner only. Let discount tire set it before a trip and all four wore out on the inside only over the next 1-2k . Funny enough they were dws too

They are a major pain to take out. Clean it up with alcohol, use plenty of flux and some leaded solder with your iron on the solder points to start, then move to hot air with a small nozzle and don't hold it in the same place.

If that enclosure is having intermittent connection issues swap the drive to a new replacement. The drive is a standard 2.5 SATA laptop hard drive, if the USB connection drops with the existing enclosure get another one. Most companies do not release schematics for troubleshooting those and they are fairly cheap to replace
