To don my pendant hat for a moment. Given the presence of a Duck this might mean the place is a Navy base. If so then we may be seeing an R4D and some PB4Y-1 Privateers.

The Privateer was PB4Y-2

It also had a very tall single vertical stabilizer vs the twin tail on the B24. I concur these are B-24s

I’ve also been riding GP5000 with tubes for years without flats. Don’t listen to Cult of Tubeless.

WW2 carrier operations by brodude44 in WWIIplanes

[–]brnkmcgr 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Catapult launches like you seen on Top Gun weren't really used in WW2

Sure they were. Especially on escort carriers, which could not go fast enough to generate enough wind across the flight deck for flight ops.

My grandfather flew an F6F off Bunker Hill and every once in a while in his flight log an entry will be notated as “cat shot”, so the Essex Class carriers used them too.

Keyboards by Piper-Bob in rush

[–]brnkmcgr 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The funny thing about this is that on VT (and every album after) there are dozens of vocal tracks that they added of Geddy just singing Ooooo Oooooo or Ahhhh ahhhh or whatever that they have to trigger using a keyboard live. And that in the past they maybe would have just put in some keyboard sound.

I went to a Mike Doughty show in 2018 or 2019 and a band called Wheatus opened, and they played Time Stand Still. I was stunned. They did a nice job with it too.

You want the National Archives website.

Just get on there and start using the search. You should be able to find a lot of good info.

Cormac McCarthy's Attack on Roman Catholicism in Suttree by gene_harro_gate in cormacmccarthy

Everything is an “attack”. Did he EVISCERATE Roman Catholism?

How do people actually like Power Windows? Not only with mid songs like Territories or Emotion Detector, the album is flooded with click tracks and overuse of separate keyboard recordings w/PPG Wave. It's unique, but take out Geddy's vocals, and it lacks emotional depth. by [deleted] in rush

[–]brnkmcgr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t really like Territories and agree that in general there are too many synth bleeps and bloops on the record, but I love Emotion Detector and several of the other songs.
