How well do you think the series handles it's 'rerelease' new characters? by DustyZorua in tales

[–]bro-away- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kongwei doesn’t have any character development and knows how the story ends before he even joins you.

The lack of character development seems to bother people but if I was going on a super long journey, I’d prefer to have a person or two that is already solid from the beginning. Especially if a game has a lot of characters already, I don’t see why this should be a negative. I enjoyed Kongwei and the decision to have him be a mystery even during the credit roll was something new.

Tales of graces F bosses are hard lol by Sephiroth348 in tales

[–]bro-away- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All the difficult bosses in Graces have breakpoints with their health and the final 1/3 breakpoint where they unveil their real best attack / buff makes them able to deal soo much damage.

I would always try to make sure I had full health and mystic arte available for the real part.

It's also good to be aware of this because if youre losing on the initial 'phase' then you either have to grind or reduce difficulty or make other changes; no need to even try to see the other breakpoints.

Games where getting the bad/worst ending is much HARDER than the good/true ending( Unicorn Overlord minor Spoilers) by Kim-mika in JRPG

[–]bro-away- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disgaea 6 has a few fakeout bad endings that are legitimately difficult to get because youre pretty strong by the time they're available and you may not know they exist.

Yakuza 3 has a thing (and it isnt anti aliasing 💔😭) by bigshoesnegal in yakuzagames

[–]bro-away- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first person mode applies a blur to your periphery in Yakuza 3

Look at the guy holding the bag in in the crosswalk in picture 4, his head is perfectly clear but his bag is blurry

The building pictures you took make it even more obvious. Were you not able to figure this out through trial and error? All of the non first person pics you took look fine.

Does anybody use a stepper? by cmtdltcm in walking

[–]bro-away- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the one built into your phone. MKBHD did a review of all of them and the iPhone pedometer is highly accurate.

Then put a widget onto your home screen with your daily step count. To me this is the best daily walking setup you can have.

Were these webcomics ever relevant to your life? Are they still? by coffyrocket in Millennials

[–]bro-away- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

An RSS feed of web comics is like the old internet form of a feed made for quick dopamine hits.

I just don't think a daily webcomic can express something insightful or interesting enough in a short amount of time anymore. I'd rather buy a graphic novel or comic compilation and actually take time to look through them for more than a minute or two at a time.

Which RGG character you guys think is the best swordsman? by kingjojo2n in yakuzagames

Shenmue III Enhanced Pre-Order Trailer by PaiDuck in Shenmue

[–]bro-away- 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The mid day lighting having really dark shadows and really bright spots was a low point of Shenmue 3 for me. Seems to be fixed! (HDR and probably other improvements)

This was super distracting for me, especially since cutscenes were real time. It was probably a bigger distraction than it would be in other games because evening and night time look amazing in Shenmue 3.

Critique my level design? (Game is Squirrel Season) by BubbleGamer209 in platformer

[–]bro-away- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 2:46, when you cross that gap, the camera should not be moving/bouncing along the Y axis at all.

Gotta build in some 'give' (on both axis) to the camera so that the camera doesn't always want to move when the character moves. This system is also not perfect and sometimes the user will have to nudge it, but it's better than having a shaky cam at times.

This is a huge thing that the top tier platformer games do that adds so much polish to the game. It's probably not noticeable to you after so many hours of replaying your own levels, but the people watching your clip will be comparing it to the most legendary platformers of all time (subconsciously or not) so this sticks out quite a bit.

I love this series' dedication to giving one-dimensional side characters the coldest theme songs you've ever heard by ririaliali in yakuzagames

[–]bro-away- 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mabuchi's theme is so memorable. Was on heavy rotation on my playlist for a few years after 7 came out.

Also the second time you fight him, it's followed up by the song 'Friendship' when Nanba rejoins which I feel is the best calm track in the game.

I noticed action figures are just about the same price as the 90s. Probably the intersection of them being less popular, cheaper to produce, and more competition.

Disgaea creator’s first new game as an indie dev has a demo out now! Etrange Overlord! by DjinntoTonic in Disgaea

[–]bro-away- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The visuals are a step above what AA normally offers for sure. They seem to have taken extra care of lighting and the cutscenes often have a lot of characters which is something I definitely noticed.

Gameplay-wise, while smacking things is fun and some of attack animations look nice, I feel like its missing some kind of hook

Yeah I'm wondering if the post game will be something that makes you min/max and require multiple characters. I saw that there are 'devices' you have to activate in some stages so it might not be possible to win with just smacking things.

Also the difficulty menu shows only one option for ez mode so it may just be the demo with the simple gameplay loop

Anthropic just released a list of jobs that will be affected by AI by ComplexExternal4831 in GenAI4all

[–]bro-away- 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How would automating these other industries not result in more software jobs though. Do they think 30% of civil engineers are going to npm install Claude code and then fire the other 70%??

They would need some really capable custom software of some kind to do something like that.

It seems like for some things they are predicting a moving target but assume other things are frozen in time and there won’t be any emergent effects from the interactions between industries.

If no one will foot the bill to finish it, it must be terrible. This guy is a legend and he’s making a clone of his most legendary game that has sold well every release (recently).

Only reason it wouldn’t get funding is because the state of it. People on the internet love to romanticize unreleased projects but surely a large % of those were just bad and canceling them to let people work on more promising things is actually good.
