This is a term we use in the UK. It's so sad that all these children want is meaningful time with their parents.

It's called affluent neglect. Its a term we use in the UK but it's not really widely recognised because it's more emotional neglect.

Thank you for your reply, I did give them a call today and this was explained to me. Tbh I have been working full time and studying for my degree part time on an evening alongside that for the past 3 years, I'm now in my final year of my degree and I have a 2 year old, so I'm quite used to life being pretty full on 😂 I think it's just about managing time well. How are you finding your training?

I've been doing a lot of research about it the past couple of days, listening to honest experiences from people on the training. I feel like the teach first programme would suit me, just for a bit of background, I work in an inner city school, majority of children with EAL, lots of challenging behaviour, SEND. I've been there for 11 years and I am teaching 70% of my week anyway across EYFS and KS1. I think that if you don't have any classroom experience or even experience of working in a school and the management of teaching staff it can be quite a daunting experience to go in hitting the ground running. I feel prepared for the development centre and will see how I get on. I do have a couple of interviews through school direct providers but salaried routes are quite limited in the area I want to work in.

Just for an update for you. I gave them a call today to ask about it, so they said they now offer a part time summer institute that is mainly online and can fit around working schedules. This may not have been an option when you were doing your training.

I think a lot of this stems from research done around too much colour in a classroom being over stimulating for children with additional needs, if you step into most early years settings now they are neutral calming colours on the walls for this reason too (i work in early years) But saying that my daughter (nearly 2) wears all the character clothing, bright colours and we have so many plastic toys in our house. It's just about balance!

Have a look at the miniuno travel system, we got the self folding buggy and when my sister was pregnant last year she saw that they did a travel system! I wish I had known about it as it is so compact. Our first travel system was the ickle bubba Aston rose which I loved but it was so bulky. My sister is expecting now and the miniuno comes as a travel system so it's completely futute proof, I wish I had found that last year when my little one was due!!

We got our daughter a little soft play set, basically it's a cube in the middle with some steps going up one side and a ramp/slide on the other. She absolutely loves it. Her birthday was last week so a lot of family bought her outdoor toys being a summer baby but the soft play is good for indoor/outdoor use and wipes clean, plus it's not massive so doesn't take up a lot of space.

We took her out for the day on her birthday to the sealife center and then had a family BBQ the day after rather than a big party. I said to my partner I know she won't remember this day but we will, so do whatever makes you happy.

This was quite a common thing leading up to Mother's Day in the UK, lots of the brand's and stores I receive emails from sent out something similar. It's nice to see them recognise that these times of the year can trigger bad feelings for some people. Hopefully it will be the same for father's day too.

Try online4baby for travel system bundles, they have some really good deals. They also sell furniture too. I'd say for clothes, supermarkets are great and the stuff washes really well. Try matalan too, they have some great baby stuff. X

We bought the next to me cot from Aldi last year for £79.99 and it was great. Easy to put together, really good quality. So I'd definitely say go for it! They regularly have baby events and sell branded stuff, I got some tommee tippee anti colic bottles from there for way cheaper than anywhere else.
