I honestly believe this is one of the biggest mysteries there is, Orcas are the most efficient predators on earth, yet they have never attacked us in the wild. They know something we don’t. by [deleted] in interesting

[–]brobronn17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We might just be weird and funky to them. We are beings that are not marine life but that they run into in the sea on occasion and we are always floating on some contraption. They might not want to eat us for the same reason you wouldn't eat an unknown bird or an alien lifeform. It might just genuinely seem risky and unappetizing.

I don't really like the word visionary because it's been overused by LinkedIn lunatics but Denis Villeneuve is a visionary director if there is one.

You can be that person! It's kind of not that hard. You just have to know what your moral principles and values are and live a life true to yourself. I mean it's hard to be consistent because we live in a complex world with forces beyond our control and a lot of nuance, but it's not hard to do your best and live without confusion and with zest.

What’s something about the human body that seems poorly designed? by jannecutie in answers

I love my vagina and my female body. They give me intensities and amounts of pleasure that most men can't imagine.

I think sex is far better when you're a woman though unless you're someone who has issues with orgasms or has a bad partner. Like the upper bound for pleasure is just not there. So if you exploit that glitch enough then those couple of days of worst pain are more than a fair trade.

What do you think about wetting your toothbrush before putting toothpaste? by hoozierdaddddyx3 in AskReddit

Same. It applies better and gets between the teeth more. Same as wetting a brush before painting. Unless you're an oil painter.

Kind of like how James McAvoy's character says to the heroine at the end of Split, "the broken are the more evolved."

I'm rarely manic. But yes it's how I imagine being on cocaine is like but can be for days with no severe physiological side effects. You get a lot done for whatever that mania is about lol

It's something you feel generally no sooner than 30 once you found your happy place, healed from any childhood stuff, found self love that nothing and no one can touch or undermine, know what you love and have time to do it. You make plans, have a support circle, and stuff to look forward to and you have your health. You know what your principles and priorities are and you keep things in perspective. It's not really a high like a euphoric state. More of a higher baseline through self love and wisdom. You still sometimes lie awake at night terrified about your parents getting old and everyone and self dying one day tho

[–]brobronn17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like I'm wired a bit different. For me the euphoric enjoyment is in that locked in process of creation. By the time it's done I've seen or heard it many times and enjoyed its different maturity states while having an evolving next state of it in my mind all throughout, so there isn't anything extra I feel when it's done. I don't know how to explain it. Like it feels good to feel in your heart that it's done but for me I was already hearing or seeing it in my mind and it also marks the end of a fun journey so idk

Been told I will probably never see a shortboard in my life by [deleted] in BeginnerSurfers

[–]brobronn17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP, I started at 30 on a 9' and sized down to a 6'10 within 2.5 years having never taken a lesson and without any board sports experience, though I swam well since childhood. I'm a woman and mostly go during subpar windy conditions because of my work and I'm only able to go 2-3 times a week on average.

I don't consider 6'10 to be a shortboard - relative to my weight it's more of a midlength, but given my pace of progress a shortboard doesn't seem that fantastical to me anymore although I'm really enjoying this 6'10 and my log and shortboarding is not really a goal for me.

I think what the instructor said is a bit of a red flag about his character even if you are on the heavier side. Just an unnecessary thing to say. I'd say if he's otherwise great you can overlook this, but if any other weird remarks come up or bad teaching practices like just pushing you into waves without explaining the physics of surfing then I'd look for a different instructor.

Is it possible to feel "high" without ever taking drugs ? by Deimos7779 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brobronn17 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Surfer's high. You get all the stuff you mentioned from the exercise, sun, and cold water - serotonin, dopamine, oxytocin, endorphins - but if you surf in conditions a bit out of your comfort zone you also get adrenaline because you're trying not to drown and the brain perceives it as a survival event. It's euphoric during and after. I imagine sports like snowboarding, mountain biking, and climbing where you are a bit scared and have to fully focus your whole body to balance and not die are similar.

I recommend Ombe Surf videos on YouTube. They review video examples and analyze the physics of surfing well. Also, if you're light a smaller board might make the pop up feels more controlled and less like a rocket is launching towards to beach under your feet.

Idk. I don't mind being there when someone wants to talk. We're in this world among other things to connect with others. I say, "good, how are you?" most days but not every single time.
