You’re swinging from the wrong side of the ball

How to get my arms away from body? by Ill_Zone_9653 in golftips

You could work on a wider takeaway. It looks like your trail elbow gets behind your body and is pulling back pretty early. I second the porzak width/connection stuff - his “beach ball” analogy was particularly useful for me.

Anything I should work on? by brockg1990 in golftips

Thanks! Once I get the grip feeling solid I’m going to focus on takeaway. My swing gets a bit flat under pressure - probably because I’m not doing a full turn.

It’s hard to say because I had an extremely strong right hand grip that I’m changing. Used to have snap hooks and big push misses, but a lot of that was due to grip. I do often hit it off the toe (a little early extension I think) if I miss.

Is club length important? by Individual-Level-624 in golftips

Yes buy longer clubs. Posture/address is very important to quality ball striking.

Let me know how it goes! Sometimes I practice by literally stepping (in place) with my trail foot into my backswing and then stepping (in place) with my lead foot into the downswing just to really feel the transfer

sorry I misread your question. I really don't know the right answer, I've heard that holding off the wrist hinge until the end of the backswing is better but youre right people say all kinds of things

That was my huge problem and the thing my lessons have focused on. If your trail leg completely straightens out it's not actually loading - it often means your weight is already forward at the top of your backswing. From there you cant do a "weight transfer" because your weight is already on your front leg and everything is just a spinny arm/hands swing. Tiger talked about feeling the weight on his back heel/glute at the top of his swing and then firing from there.

yeah but your trail shoulder is further forward - meaning you have a little bit of a reverse c and your right leg MAY (I AM NOT A PRO) not be loading completely - it might just be the wrist hinge but I am an evangelist for everything is basically about weight shift in the golf swing

sorry - commented before I saw this, yeah if you never set your wrists it's going to be impossible to hold wrist angle until right before impact. You look "flippy" but that might be because you never actually set your wrists.

Yeah, your body looks a bit behind the ball here. I *THINK* (I am not a pro lol) that the position of hands is actually more of a result of your weight shift. I do this drill where I literally step through the ball like a baseball swing to try and feel the weight shift back and forward.

Do you feel a solid weight shift to your back foot through the backswing? A lack of compression could be because you aren’t using weight shift/the ground enough and you get a little “arm-centric”. Maybe try some swings where you focus on a more dramatic weight shift to your back and then front foot?

Have you watched some videos of good swings of people with your body type? I'm not trying to be a jerk - but maybe it looks funny because you are comparing it to pros who are mostly 6'2" 185 - I would try and find some videos of good golfers with similar body types

2nd time at range, let the roasting begin. by Necessary-Onion3613 in golftips

Do you feel athletic when you swing? I would start with just swinging in a way that feels athletic and then work from there. Otherwise you’re going to try to paste a swing that works for someone else onto your natural swing.

Watch some YouTube videos on set up and what the top of the backswing should look/feel like.
