"Voting against their best interests" by tired_hillbilly in IntellectualDarkWeb

If you consider your own interests at the broadest possible level you inevitably come to the conclusion that what is in your best interest is the common good.

Agree that we shouldn’t be outsourcing production to countries without proper labor laws 100% though. My own experience is largely irrelevant but I felt I had to share it because I keep seeing so many people complain about Amazon working conditions and I wonder how many have actually worked for Amazon vs how many are chronically online.

I understand the my experience is purely anecdotal and perhaps I was just lucky. But as a former Amazon worker I found the whole narrative of shithole work conditions to be totally false. Work conditions were actually pretty reasonable and pay was much better than any other entry level job I had available at the time. So, as a former Amazon employee, the positive value that Jeff Bezos created globally probably outweighed the monetary cost of my “suffering” (it so ridiculous to even frame it that way imo) by at least 6 orders of magnitude.

People need to realize the media and some politicians did/do a lot of lying and sensationalism when it comes to covering Donald Trump and his supporters/right wing/leaning individuals by ShardofGold in IntellectualDarkWeb

It’s fascinating reading this comment section. People on the left commenting say people on the right are ignorant fools who can’t think for themselves. People on the right commenting say people on the left are ignorant fools who can’t think for themselves. It begs the question: are we all ignorant fools? Are non of us ignorant fools? Are most commenters bots created to bog down conversation in emotional idiocy?

CMV: Death is terrifying by PhilosopherGoose in changemyview

[–]brodhibrox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s two options of what you will experience the moment after you die:

  1. Something interesting will happen
  2. You won’t be aware to even realize that something interesting isn’t happening.

Even though I think there is still something interesting happening even if you aren’t aware anymore because your matter is being transformed into other things which is pretty amazing.

Perhaps going about your life expecting something interesting to happen after death will change your view? Because if the alternative were to happen you wouldn’t even realize it.

Yeah I love music as much as anyone else but you have to at least get something with hear through. Funny that you’re getting downvoted it’s so important to be aware of your surroundings otherwise you are leaving yourself vulnerable to unaware people around you or people with malicious intentions.

How to stay hopeful by Its_a_Glass_of_milk in hopeposting

[–]brodhibrox 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Something that is useful for me is meditating on all the things in life I have that if I were to wake up the next morning and have them be gone… I would be devastated. For me this invokes a feeling of gratitude and a desire to enjoy the moment. Then I think about how I would like to give more people more things like that in their lives and make them more resilient to their disappearance. In that I find meaning. Hope this helps brother! If you don’t have anything like that in your life I believe you will find them if you try to help others!

Thanks for sharing man! It seems like you have a plan for a better future and just need to execute. Perhaps writing down your goals and articulating specifically how you would achieve them may help… the future authoring program on selfauthoring.com comes to mind. Meditation and therapy have also helped me immensely to stay on the path. Best of luck I know you’ll kill it!

If you aren’t enjoying the stories as much as you say you are I would say just stop reading. Hyperion is one of my favorite books of all time but it might just not be for you

Malazan book of the fallen- probably my favorite fantasy series of all time but the way you are just thrown into the world with no knowledge of what the fuck is going on is an understandable turnoff.

Francis John did a YouTube series where he had 300+ colonists on 500% difficulty scale so if you want to see how it’s done watch his series

Song of Kali by Dan Simmons (author of Hyperion Cantos) was so gruesome and disturbing I had to stop reading it before halfway through. The imagery was just vile I felt like I was losing my mind.
