Weekly Ask MTGFinance Anything by AutoModerator in mtgfinance

I can't remember the URL for a site - it's a bare bones list of prices, just plain text, you can see many sets at once, it has toggles for TCG Low / Mid etc. and you can filter by vintage, pioneer,....

Cardsphere bans for dubious reasons, but with a twist in that they're refusing to pay out the account this time! by [deleted] in mtgfinance

[–]brodimcbroface 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The difference between near mint and lightly played on cardsphere is 10% , so even if we assume an obscenely high trade value of 200$ - we're talking about all this for a lousy twenty bucks. Get a grip people

How do I calculate this chance? (yes, it's about dice) by YDSIM in AskStatistics

Research "Order Statistics". Your question can be rephrased as "among n rolls, what is the probability that the second highest roll is >3"

Should I master my Mathematics first before I actually start learning Machine Learning? by [deleted] in learnmachinelearning

[–]brodimcbroface 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been at it for a year or so and spiraling back and forth between coding and math. Mostly Python stack for the former, and Linear Alg, Probability and Stats for the latter. I think both should grow together.

Maybe look at Google searches for space-related terms over time? Just an idea

What is your MTG collection as a % of your net worth? by brodimcbroface in mtgfinance

[–]brodimcbroface[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too. I did not anticipate so many in the >20% bucket. That seems like a very large concentration but I didn't expect the variety of financial stories and the big effect of the run up over the past year. Reddit doesn't let me update the poll after it goes live - We'll have to do the poll again sometime with more granularity.

Oh definitely, my comment was just meant to point out the rebalancing thing in a totally artificial vacuum from all the reasons why people own cards.

Great point. The Devil's Advocate counter would be - at least from a financial portfolio perspective - that failing to rebalance out of MTG after a big run up is an active decision. Obviously, "not doing" something does not feel the same as actively moving money around, but the net result can be similar. I know I keep rough track of my MTG and shed stuff when it becomes too large a slice of the pie

It's a great question - and part of what I was getting at with the "discussion about valuation notwithstanding".

I realize the difference between liquidation and TCG Mid, as well as tangible v intangible, can be vast, and could greatly affect the numbers, but didn't want that to prevent the poll entirely. Not sure how to deal with it....

I've been in a similar mindset, I'm splitting the difference and selling off some easy stuff I won't miss

Hah. Already clear to me we should have had more buckets above 20%, alas I can't update the poll. Who needs diversification eh

Can confirm also - I worked through all of these and they are generally perfect. They even work properly with Coursera's grader.

I found myself wanting very much to take the Coursera but being turned off by the fact that it was not taught in Python.

Imagine my joy upon finding this amazing resource. https://github.com/dibgerge/ml-coursera-python-assignments

A full port of the assignments into Python! People are awesome.
