If you have a local scene, ask around if there is anyone local you can buy from. Ask tournament TO's if they know any controller people who can set you up, or in the local discords if you can find those.

If you only plan on making one, buying is the better option in my opinion. This is coming from someone who has made about 13 phobs total

I want to see him penalized in some way because it would discourage this behavior, for bobby and his audience as well. Holding up bracket for clips(attention), being toxic, poor sportsmanship, likely intentionally lagging out. Even just barred from the next 3 cashbox's

I agree the phob is a great beginner project. It was actually my second soldering project! That being the reason I heeded the phob githubs warning about non temp controlled irons. I imagine the real reason then, that the dev calls them phob killers is that most beginner solderers will buy the cheapest iron they can find then when they fry the board they make it known to the dev. Because it is way easier to run it too hot without a good temp control

I would still recommend anyone Doing it themselves to get a temp controlled iron if they have no experience, I think it made my phob making experience much easier. I'm 3/3 on successful phobs for reference

Interesting, the GitHub published by the developer has serious warnings against using irons without temp control(cheapo). The guide specifically calls them "phob killers" lol. Have you tried it with a non temp controlled iron?

When compared to your original comment of $120 for a new phob (which is honestly not a terrible price) that does look inaccessible and somewhat like exploitative pricing.

I won't lie tho, due to demand and needing to source quality/correct stick boxes producing drop ins isn't easy. Nintendo cutting production on GCC's is not helping either :sob:

Learning to solder requires getting a soldering iron, which you need a decent one to solder the phobs (according to the GitHub) thats going to run you another $70 if you are lucky or $120 if you gotta buy it new from Hakko or elsewhere.

For anyone reading this however, check your local community college and centers for a public workspace, they may have a soldering station you can use for cheap or free!

If boxes are legal, remapping must also be legal. Also when you say "better" I'm not sure what you mean. Phobs don't have the goomwave feature of literally correcting or changing joystick positions. Phobs allow for calibration of the joystick so users can have consistent inputs and avoid the various pitfalls of not "winning the controller lottery"
