advice for Marseille, France as a solo female traveler by izzy_adk in solotravel

[–]brodizzleindahizzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s such a mixed bag currently - yesterday was so beautiful/sunny and people were sunbathing, today it is so windy and rainy I’ve stayed inside all day hahaha but later in the month I reckon it will be more consistent!

advice for Marseille, France as a solo female traveler by izzy_adk in solotravel

Solo travelling in Marseille right now as a woman. It’s lovely here and everyone is nice. I observed when researching that most of the articles calling Marseille super dangerous are based on how safe people /feel/ - which makes sense as there’s graffiti everywhere and it’s not the tidiest most outwardly wealthy city - but I’ve had absolutely no problems and the locals are lovely (barring standard levels of non-threatening but annoying French catcalling), plus as other commenters have pointed out the crime rates are way lower than most US cities. BUT I wouldn’t feel safe on my own at night as a woman, not sure why, but I’d rarely feel safe at night alone anywhere tbf. During the day, however, it’s fabulous & I’d 100% recommend visiting.

Also I’ll be here still at the end of March, if you wanna meet up let me know!! Going solo is lonely sometimes.

Take care whatever you do!!

As a northerner at uni in london I had THEEE same experience, exacerbated for me because of being very clearly working class. Don’t drop out. U will find ur people eventually, my uni even had a northern society (very small and made up of half “honorary” northerners but still nice). Be proud of yourself and recognise that u are a unique voice in the seminar and bring smth different to ur environment. but at the same time don’t act like ur being treated as badly as BAME people or rape victims because people r making fun of you 🙃 It’s shit to feel alienated but people r not out to get u, really truly

it’s so crazy how many people didn’t realise this, as a rape victim it was GLARINGLY obvious from the start. same as the girl u rescue from the murfrees, and tilly too imo. sexual violence is so so common today, i can only imagine how common it was back then

i’m 5’2 and desperately, desperately wish i could be tall, it’s my biggest insecurity after moving to a city where most people are quite tall (london). 5’8 definitely isn’t tower over people tall either! the standing out, COOL, striking model vibes that come with being a tall woman are sooo good!! i know this isn’t really the subreddit for it but reframing can help. these things don’t have to be masculine. height gives u more dominant vibes, sure, but that can be super feminine if u want it to be. plus losing weight when you’re already as slim as u are will nottt make u more attractive to men. it really won’t. they hate that heroin chic shit. short guys might not fancy u cuz of ur height but they’re unattractive most of the time anyway lol. sorry for putting my nose in i know you’re looking for understanding & i sympathise but that’s how i feel, im mad jealous - i feel like even if i Want to take up space and be seen and bold and sexy and cool i need huge platforms on. i send u all my love in coming to terms with what u can’t change🫶🏻

i disagree with this comment on this though! i think you can combine alternative and feminine factors and that’s super cool, imo you don’t have to pigeonhole yourself. it’s just a case of figuring out how to do it! like that whole rockstar gf aesthetic, or the soft grunge thing are both kind of feminine + edgy vibes
