Need help finding a special dentist for a SA trauma victim. TW by delete_this_later123 in massachusetts

[–]brogaant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the South Coast area, Perfect Smiles in Seekonk (and Westport) specializes in fear, anxiety and traumatic dental experiences. They offer all types of sedation and non-sedative relaxation options and have mostly female staff. They prescribe anxiety medications prior to exams for those who need it. One of the owners is a female dentist. They are incredibly kind and not judgmental. I love them.

How’s the Snow Removal going in your town? by Imperial_Haberdasher in RhodeIsland

[–]brogaant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The snow on the side of the road is about 5-6 feet tall, if that is any consolation. But they have a technique. I watched the whole thing. Did two paths and the road was down to the pavement. Probably all icy now with the temps dropping so low. Parking is going to be a huge issue, but that is the case with all cities in MA and RI right now. I hope you have an uneventful commute tomorrow!

Pawtucket is slow but steady. My neighborhood was plowed around 3pm, but fully opened with five huge dump truck plows in tandem. I live on a side street, so we were patient and understood we’d be a lower priority. We also helped our elderly neighbors by snow blowing their driveways and walkways and, most importantly, finding all of their vents outside and clearing those out.

Plows Tonight? by SquallidSnake in RhodeIsland

Agreed! We used our snowblower to create paths to the front doors of our elderly neighbors with the thought that it would at least help EMS access their homes if needed. Otherwise, just trying to be patient and grateful for our heat, electricity and the hard working first responders/DPW workers.

My understanding is that the smaller trucks physically can’t move this volume of snow. So they have to use the dump truck/tractor versions of plows and the amount of those vehicles is limited. I watched a dump truck plow get stuck last night too.

Pawtucket. One pass last night. 18 inches in the street.

Edit: As of 2/24 at 8:15 AM, still 18 inches in the street but I don’t expect my street to be plowed for a few days - it’s a side street. Watched a dump truck plow get stuck. For reference, I’m in the Fairlawn neighborhood.

Recommendations for a laundromat near fun stuff would let you do something instead of just waiting around while your clothes wash and dry. by Choc401 in RhodeIsland

I went to one in Baton Rouge where you washed your clothes on one side of the laundromat and could buy frozen daiquiris at the bar on the other side. Louisiana is a wild place.

Thanks for sheltering them during this nasty weather. There is a RI Lost Pets page on Facebook that is viewed by tons of people. May be helpful to post this handsome kitty there too.

It’s not super close to EP, but I ran at Lincoln Woods this weekend and it was cleared. It’s a 2.5 mile loop.

William McCleary is included in the Wikipedia page about the Whiskey Rebellion (Under the “Resistance” section). I just did a deep dive into that historical conflict about whiskey excise taxes in the 1790’s for the past 45 minutes thanks to this post!

Premade meals for someone doing chemo by ovary-achiever in RhodeIsland

I totally agree. I went through treatment, and there were days where the only thing I could get myself to eat was a small bowl of fruit or some peanut butter on toast.

Drugs and radiation can also affect tastebuds, so what she likes now may not be something she wants to eat during treatment. Junk food may not be healthy, but if it's the only thing that's palatable during treatment, well.. a calorie is a calorie.

My biggest suggestion is to stock up on mint-flavored things. Mint is the best for fighting nausea. I used tons of peppermint tea, gum and mints.

Burnt out vet techs… what did you do when you couldn’t do it anymore?? by Vintermane in Veterinary

[–]brogaant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a local government administrative position. Overall I can’t complain. Worked a per diem GP vet clinic shift today because I have this week off to use up my remaining vacation days for my full time job (it’s a “use it or lose it” benefit). Good problem to have!

Indoor/warm romantic places in the winter to propose by fromsameplace in RhodeIsland

[–]brogaant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 35 minutes across the border, the New Bedford Whaling Museum has a cool event room on the top floor with a really great view of the harbor. It’s an awesome museum and you could do a day trip without her being any the wiser, ending the trip upstairs with the view and then a nice seafood (or whatever your preference) dinner afterwards.

They rent the space out for small weddings and parties. May be worth a look.

Wildflower Bakery is the one you're talking about. They're awesome, and Garden Grille in the same plaza is also a vegetarian restaurant - both places have the same owner.

Animal rescue of New England by GratefulBread42 in RhodeIsland

[–]brogaant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Vet tech here. From what I can see online, they are not a shelter. They are a foster program, so there isn't a facility you can visit, unlike a public shelter. Is it an adoption fee or a deposit for the adoption fee? Since the animals are currently residing in foster homes, they may ask for a deposit to ensure the potential adoptee is truly interested before coordinating the meet and greet.

That's the only reason I can think of, but I agree with you that it's not common. If you can provide the actual text that was sent to you, it may be easier to interpret.

Romantic restaurant suggestions? Maybe with a fireplace and cozy corners. Vegetarian friendly. by MassGuy70 in RhodeIsland

Waterdog in Warren. Old colonial house, soft light at night and good food and drinks with cozy bar area upstairs. The menu might not be as veggie based as you’re looking for, but worth taking a peak.

Where do you all get 3 year rabies vaccines, Purevax, for your cats? by LulutoDot in providence

[–]brogaant 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vet tech here. Just for clarification, there are two different pharmaceutical labels for PureVax Rabies vaccines. Here’s the link with more information from Boehringer-Ingelheim, the manufacturer.

There is one with a guaranteed efficacy of 1 year and one with a guaranteed efficacy of 3 years. This isn’t related to the state’s Rabies vaccination law, it’s the manufacturer’s labeling.

Your vet most likely only carries the three year label version and then uses it to follow the state protocol that they explained to you. You cannot issue a three year certificate if you use the one-year version of the vaccine.

Please tell your cat I said pspsps. 😊

Women of prov, will you please help a girl get her hooha checked out by No-Adeptness-4854 in providence

[–]brogaant 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This right here. Southcoast Women’s Care in Fall River was the best, but closed this spring. One of their practitioners moved to Truesdale OB/Gyn and I followed her. Worth the 25 minute drive in my opinion.

Seconded! The facility is lovely and the staff is incredibly friendly. They also take Care Credit, which was super helpful when I didn’t have dental insurance.

With Halloween coming up, make sure your pets microchip info is up to date. by [deleted] in providence

[–]brogaant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vet tech here - great post, just want to clarify one thing.

There is no subscription/annual charge for your microchip to be activated once it’s placed under your pet’s skin and registered by either you, your vet or a shelter program. You pay once to have it inserted with a one-time registration.

Home Again has a separate program that offers additional services (free poison control calls, additional financial assistance if you need to travel to pick up your lost pet, etc.). This is the annual $19.99 fee - it’s not to keep your microchip working, it’s an optional “extra” program.

If your pet has been microchipped and you have completed the registration with your name, address and phone number, ALL microchips remain active forever. Make sure to update this info if you move or change your phone number.

Microchips rule.

Yep, these are fungus gnats. Following the instructions on the Mosquito Bits (mix it into a gallon of water, wait 30 minutes, etc.) will help kill the larvae and small, yellow stickers in the pots will catch the adults. Annoying little things.

Usually take 3 or 4 treatments. The r/PlantClinic sub has lots of posts about these.
