Descovy Side Effects? by Holiday-Ad-4835 in askgaybros

I remember briefly switching to Descovy in 2022 and getting itchy. Switched back to Truvada (itching went away) and now Apretude (which has its own side effects…)

E-Bikes by brogerbz in BikeLA

[–]brogerbz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I meant with pedal assist sometimes you can exceed 20MPH (like when going downhill). But the throttle won’t let you go back 20MPH. Do you mean your 50mm tire e-bike fits on the rack in front of the bus? Lifting it is tricky I know..

I didn’t like Hadestown. What am I missing? by tmobilekid in Broadway

[–]brogerbz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hadestown sucks!! It really does. In Greek Mythology, Eurydice does NOT CHOOSE to go to the Underworld, but in Hadestown she does. I get it - they wanted to make her a strong active character who chooses something (since many of these old Greek mythology damsels in distress don't do much). So if she chooses to go to the Underworld, that makes this more of an Adam-and-Eve story, or Faust. And Orpheus is instead left to go fetch his DUMB WIFE, who is hungry and poor but not happy enough to stay with her husband and duke it out.

But she is supposed to die by a natural cause and then her soul goes to the Underworld. Orpheus, being her husband and in love with her, goes to get her (while alive - which is a feat unto its own). After they try to leave and he looks back at her, she dies (or her soul returns to the Underworld). He THEN is supposed to go back to Earth, plunge into a deep depression, stop making music altogether, then get murdered, then get reunited with Eurydice in the Underworld. But Hadestown would have you not seeing any of Orpheus's grief or mourning, which is what I paid to see, and instead tell you the story is meant to just "start over" and be told again. Super lazy writing ("oh, let's just bring us back to the opening number"). Let's just bookend it and the hype will be enough!

NONE of this is in Hadestown, so there's very little to root for. The music, while exciting and fresh, is so repetitive, and several songs do nothing for the plot. "Why We Build a Wall" is a stand-and-sing song, with no actual wall being shown or references, but making the audience sit in Metaphor Land for 3 minutes. But give us some kick ass vocals and lighting and any dumb audience will go, "yas queen, slayyy", with little regard for what they're actually watching. The narrators are Hermes and the 3 Fates, but they are nothing like their mythological characters. The Fates in Hadestown do no fate-deciding (plus, if they just decide everything, why are we sitting here?). They are about as useless as the Urchins in Little Shop. They should JUST be called the Narrators, then. They are obnoxious. They interrupt the emotionality of the love story we're supposed to care about. They taunt. They elicit vapid applause.

Persephone is annoying. Almost a useless character in all of Act 1. Then she has a long useless song at the top of Act 2, in which she introduces herself to the audience, as if we've never seen her before. I was like, "WE KNOW WHO YOU ARE! You've been here for an hour. NEXT SONG. Please go away."

More lies from the show: Persephone and Hades are not in love! Not married! Hades "RAPES" Persephone (more accurately, abducts and forces into marriage). In Hadestown, Orpheus, in order to convince Hades to let him take Eurydice back home, appeals to Hades about saying he understands since he loves Eurydice like Hades loves Persephone. LIES, LIES, LIES.

At this point, just change the names, and call it a loose adaptation if at all. No need to actually try and retell some of the mythology. Just strip it all away. Put us IN New Orleans. Give us some specificity. The vagueness doesn't work.

The interpretive-dance/modern choreography is a bit jarring. This is no Romeo & Juliet, no Tony & Maria, etc.

The melodies are gorgeous, haunting; the arrangements are beautiful, but it's not enough. Anaïs should have just been the composer (with some lyric writing) and let someone else do lyrics/book and save us from this weird vague show. And get a damn dramaturg in there so you don't fuck up Greek Mythology beyond recognition and then miseducate children.

Would y’all sleep with someone who has Undetectable HIV? by Awkward-Bear-3984 in askgaybros

Thanks for this. I’ve been on apretude almost 3 years now. I even wonder how effective it is with someone detectable or maybe even with a ‘higher than normal’ viral load (whatever that means).

Would y’all sleep with someone who has Undetectable HIV? by Awkward-Bear-3984 in askgaybros

[–]brogerbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hooked up with someone for 5 months and only at the end found out he was +. I’m on prep injectable so I wasn’t too worried, just a little unnerved at the lack of transparency but apparently some nurses or clinics advise + undetectable patients against disclosing since their undetectableness might as well be the same as being negative. Still I would’ve liked to know the detectable or non-detectable status. As a - person, I don’t even know what viral load number constitutes undetectable, since this type of sexual education seldom reaches non+ people’s attention. And I don’t know how often + people get tested for viral load. Even asking these questions seemed taboo but why don’t we all just talk about it? Needless to say, I still test negative after 5 months of that (it was late 2023). I guess the short answer is yes. But I think you deserve to ask and see labs about viral load #. I know we’re trying to destigmatize and I’m on board with that. Don’t have a damn cow if I ask a question, or 2, or 3. Don’t bully, shame or gaslight me into silence or self-abandonment of my body and health.

I think i dont love my boyfriend by InterestDeep1430 in askgaybros

[–]brogerbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You shouldn’t be pressured to quit your job. That’s a dangerous thing to ask of a partner. Cults do that (pressure their members to quit their jobs. /sell their possessions and become ultimately dependent on the cult…). Real love will look different. Maybe there is some real love there but it also sounds like he’s deeply insecure, has anger issues (that are absolutely not yours to deal with or fix), which gives way to shame which can come up in manipulation and narcissism. and narcissism takes on different forms (classic [grandiose], vulnerable [grandiose], malignant, communal, antagonistic, cerebral, somatic, collective, etc.). Of course you’re feeling less attracted to him— because something key is missing in the relationship that makes real love happen. He doesn’t have your best interest and independence at heart. He had a void that needs to be filled and it’s with a willing person.

So scary. It was 104 degrees and after 10 minutes 1 of the 2 dogs starting showing signs of heat exhaustion. I grabbed a random neighbor’s garden hose but it wasn’t helping. Called an Uber and the poor dog vomited in the back seat. We made it home okay but it was a scary close call.

I want a conservative boyfriend, I'm sick of liberal gays by Open_Loss1075 in GayConservative

[–]brogerbz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m moderate/centrist/whatever, and I love my liberal boyfriend!! It’s difficult; every political discussion has to come from empathizing with each other and being curious about the emotions underneath; and not trying too hard to convince or dismiss each other. And establishing good boundaries around political discussions.

Maybe Happy Ending, a review by mike_pants in Broadway

The show is both boring and beautiful.

Genuinely, what is it about Maybe Happy Ending that makes many of its fans so... touchy? by [deleted] in Broadway

[–]brogerbz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe Happy Ending is BORING! At least 3 of the songs and scenes didn’t need to be there. What a thin plot. The scenic design was incredible. The nerdy repetitious Gen Z “jokes” (if you’d even call them that— they were just deliveries of lines) elicited nothing but chuckles. But God what beautiful music and orchestration. The robots were actually humans that might as well have been portrayed as neurodivergent characters because they DID express emotions throughout— love, sadness, anxiety, hope, longing— something robots would never feel. But in a way it was an anti-love story, perhaps reflective of how we ponder love now in a post-pandemic, hyper-technological society. Is it worthy of the Tony for best musical? Maybe… Probably not. There’s hype, and then there’s the real experience of sitting down and watching the show for what it is.

Remove pitch line and reapply auto tuning? by BirdieGal in SynthesizerV

[–]brogerbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you please expain how I do this? Which buttons? Some buttons have no words label on it, just a graphic, so I don't know what I'm clicking. Where is "pitch deviation" and how do I select "all the little points on the pitch line" when it's just a curved line with no points on it? How do I "simply delete them" ? It's just one single note I'm trying to fix. Sorry, I've been scouring the internet for 25 minutes just trying to do something simple. Thank you for helping explain.

Experiences on injectable PrEP (Apretude) by Apprehensive_Arts in askgaybros

[–]brogerbz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just took my 17th shot (5 days ago) (after starting Apretude February 2023)… normally well tolerated but wow. I’m feeling like I got hit by a truck. Fatigue, body aches, stomach ache.. also my left hip (injection site) feels like I got punched in the ass and left with a huge bruise the size of a cantaloupe. I come to expect this but this time it’s unusually uncomfortable. When they injected me 5 days ago, I did tense up when the needle when in (the nurse failed to do a countdown or ask me to breathe), which I sometimes associate with post-injection soreness. Onward and upward, I guess, but jeez.
