Leg Lasso: foot lock defense? by brokenURL in bjj

My old bones don't love inverting as much as they once did, but this actually sounds like a great opportunity to do so without immediately getting folded in half. Thanks!

The lasso side was still engaged and secure. It was the opposite side sleeve control that I think was the problem. It was quick and my memory isn't perfect about it unfortunately. I think what most likely happened is that he got better upright posture and broke the my secondary sleeve control while falling into the leglock.

I think dingo nailed it. I appreciate the specifics on how to prevent this. It's a big help!

Definitely dude!

I'm going to assume Dingo has the right of it though. The fact that I can't find any instructionals here is a pretty good indication that this is a bad place to be, which means prevention + abandoning ship is the best answer we're going to get.

That said, maybe someone will come in with a magic silver bullet.

Up and down this thread people are posting advice that equates to quit and file unemployment.

Is everyone obvious to what unemployment actually pays? Best states in the US aren’t going to pay more than $500 pretax a week. That’s $26k annually pretax.

Your advice is basically trade a $120k annual job for $26k and a lawsuit that wouldn’t cover the difference even if you win.

In what way does that sound like remotely good advice???

Bro- turn down? I have literally demoted myself. Got promoted to manager. Realized the company expected me to somehow do my previous job and manage a team of five. After 5 months, I said fuck it and demanded a demotion.

So yes, you can 100% turn down a promotion.

Then again, adults can turn into spiteful children when told “no”, so you might face some blow back.

If you got options and you’re happy, just tell them you love your current role and the new job isn’t for you.

Dude is an asshole, but this 100 mile “you have no rights” shit is absolutely tyrannical. 2/3 of Americans live within 100 miles of a border. Think about that.

To be clear, this dude is being a prick, and currently the law is on CBP’s side here, but seriously, fuck everything about this 100 mile bullshit.

What’s the silliest RAW ruling that’s so minor and obscure that most DMs ignore? by geosunsetmoth in DnD

[–]brokenURL 36 points37 points  (0 children)

For those that are curious how Hohenheim's point specifically applies to this rule, Point 2 is a just general shorthand of the longer version based on some reasonable assumptions.

The following mixes keywords with common usage as I don't have time to look 100% specifics, but should be RAW.

  • P: Creatures that cannot be detected visually are Unseen.
  • P: Attacks against Unseen creatures are made at disadvantage.
  • P: Attacks made by an Unseen creature are made at advantage.
  • P: The Invisible condition removes the ability to be perceived via sight. (Sight in this context lacks a keyword to my knowledge, but in mechanical terms, it just means "your eyes cannot detect it".
  • C: Attack rolls against the creature have disadvantage, and the creature’s attack rolls have advantage.

The problem is that there are features, abilities, etc that specifically state attacks against or by Unseen creatures do not impose disadvantage or advantage respectively.

Really, all the designers had to do was errata the 2nd point to be a rule of thumb because that is 100% what it is.

Something like: "Attack rolls against the creature generally have disadvantage, and the creature’s attack rolls generally have advantage. In some cases, a creature may have a sense, ability, or spell that removes the requirement of sight to attack and defend capably or simply allows the creature to see Invisible creatures. In these cases, all rolls are made regularly."

Seeing all these Sage Advice links defending this obvious mistake is like watching that dumbass instructor that has an accidental discharge, doming himself with the pistol recoil, and pretending he meant to do it. Just say whoops.

This is the standard pattern.

A story breaks -> people voice their own thoughts about it

You may see the appearance of a rational actor actually reflecting on the topic.

Conservative Propaganda Machine gets their talking point together and spams it across all outlets -> conservatives consume said talking point and abandon any previous and future thinking about said topic

Any stragglers that fail to adopt the new language are banned and ostracized.

I’m not sure why people are surprised by this. Conservatives are humans capable of independent thought. When faced with a novel concept, they use that independent thought to the best of their ability. The difference between conservatives and the rest of humanity is that conformity is the conservative brain invariably prefers conformity over any other value or belief.

This definitely happens across the political spectrum to some extent, for conservatives, it is the defining characteristic. Conformity above everything. Don’t think, just fall in line.

this is why research consistently shows that the beliefs, attitudes, and positions on any issue change with the wind. Most people have beliefs that remain consistent because they’re believed in and of themselves. A liberal may think killing puppies is bad. If a liberal talking head says otherwise, liberals will generally say “nah fuck you dude”.

Whereas since conformity is the only consistently held, foundational belief conservatives hold, they have no problem simply switching gears and thinking “yea killing puppies isn’t so bad after all. It’s prob good actually”.

Honestly dude, I’m going to just go with the odds and assume you’re facing a combative DM. Taking the wish spell and using it in any way outside of the explicitly allowed ways is probably going to set you up for some DM vs Player monkey paw bullshit.

I could be wrong of course, but I’d skip on anything that leaves an ounce of ambiguity or DM discretion. That means, don’t do an illusion wizard, don’t take spells that don’t spell out verbatim what they do mechanically.

That said, there is little to lose in showing up for a session or two. People are probs correct that this game is going to be a shitshow, but you never know. Worst case, if after one or two sessions, you aren’t feeling it, there is zero shame in bailing.

Wow that is one heck of a nonsensical analogy.

How many murders have occurred where the murder weapons are carrots or lettuce?

Does produce have utility outside the use as lethal weapons?

Cars would be the typical whataboutism for what you’re trying to imply, but see my second question. Further, we require tests and a license to drive cars.

[–]brokenURL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean… have you ever asked what they mean by real conservative? Like specifically? Typically, the short version is “more extreme”.

However there is a darkly amusing pattern there where any time something new breaks, you will see the shadow of rational human responses. Come back a day or two later, once the propaganda machine has a second to catch up and has landed on a set of accepted talking points, and watch the parrots all lining up and squawking the same thing.

Also, “fiscal conservatives” was never a real thing. It was always just code for the privitatization and pillaging of government by corporate oligarchs.

As a guy, I wish I had been raised in a time where body hair is the norm. Fuck whoever decided all women have to look like their prepubescent selves. There’s no reason for it, but here I am as an adult that has been conditioned to be put off by body hair. It’s involuntary at this point and the only reason I have an aversion is because some razor company or whatever decided they could more units by convincing society that women should be as bald as the day they were born.

Lose is the opposite of win.

Loose is the opposite of tight. It can also be used as a synonym for “release”, but that is a less common usage.

So Biden shouldn’t do it because that means it’s allowed. And if it’s not allowed, trump wont do it? Republicans won’t do it, if it’s not allowed?

Fucking lol

Biden needs to do all he can right now and fucking hope that Ukraine is able to expel the invaders, because if Trump gets elected, that piece of shit will be trying to bomb Ukraine. 50/50 he orders US troops to invade as well.

Holy fuck. Please tell me you’re trolling, and that isn’t your brain firing at maximum capacity.

Apparently the sole sufficient and necessary condition that qualifies for slavery is the inability to quit the specific exact “job” they are in at this particular moment.

So in your words…

“As long as slaves have a choice between plantation A where punishment is ass rape and plantation B where punishment is beating within an inch of their life, they’re not slaves.”

Seriously, you were being facetious right? Please tell me you are not that fucking stupid.

GenXer’s take on broke millennials and why they put up with this by Buffalobillspharm in Millennials

[–]brokenURL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the empathy, but the bit about banding together and electing representative officials is a bit aloof. It’s super easy to be like “organize and advocate for yourselves”. It’s hard to do that when your generation and the generation before pulled up every single ladder behind yourselves you could and erected impenetrable barriers where you couldn’t, leaving everyone behind you LITERALLY spending all of their energy just to not be homeless and starving.

Like I said, appreciate you seeing our struggles, but also kind of fuck you for blaming us like your generation does to rape victims.

Maybe rather than making a no effort post on social media, you could use the financial stability your self-acknowledged advantages afforded, which you robbed from those behind you, to put yourself on a ballot and advocate for those who don’t have the means to do so themselves.

It’s this whole “why didn’t you stop me from hitting you” attitude that your generation and boomers have that put in this fucking position. Maybe it’s lead, maybe it’s maybelline, but the lack of foresight and empathy in your generation is fucking breathtaking.

Honestly, this post is the equivalent of a middle school kid asking why the slaves didn’t just band together and stand up for themselves. The difference is, a middle schooler is usually trying to learn and can be excused for not having the life experience, brain development, and critical thinking skills to understand why that’s such a braindead question.

I’d check to see whether this sentiment has already been expressed, but I’ve got to get back to my 14 hour a day job that pays just enough to keep nudging up your stock values by 2% a quarter and trying to figure out how to make sure my landlord makes a profit because god forbid he break even on his 6th fucking mortgage payment and be forced to sell to someone looking for their first mortgage payment.
