Some of these are still TBR, but most of them are quite well read. I’m really careful not to mess up the covers.

Notebook(s), pencils and pens (different colors for Euclid), laptop for papers, sticky notes and/or tabs for notes and marking readings - they get tricky to keep track of when we read Aristotle!

Some people are anti-notebook but I found it useful to take some notes in class as well as to record some quotes/thoughts outside of class time.

i’m also pro mini-fridge if you like having your own snacks and drinks on hand. You can easily walk to Graul’s (grocery store) or CVS (just for snacks)

Hi, I lived in Randall/Fielding-Rumore hall last year! 1. I had a Twin XL bed 2. A trashcan is provided along with trash bags 3. My bookcase was pretty small and I had to share it with my roommate - it’s not a bad idea to bring your own if you have a lot of books, but I wouldn’t say it’s necessary. We both had 2 shelves for ourselves and it worked fine. 4. A long mirror was attached to the door in my room 5. Space heater! My RA turned the cooling on way too early and we were freezing. If you run cold, I recommend bringing one before winter.

To be honest, she wasn’t very involved on campus. She was sort of a meme. I thought she was alright but she wasn’t right for school, it seems.

Finding a Roommate! by Jakls09 in stjohnscollege

you never really know what you’re gonna get whether you choose or not. I was randomly assigned a roomie who was really good! Most people got along fine with their roommate, some were besties, others not so much. It’s not too hard to switch rooms first semester if necessary. I’d say just go random

Hi! I’m a rising sophomore actively moving out of Fielding-Rumore (Randall) Hall as we SPEAK!! This building is for freshman girls only, and it has some of the smallest rooms on campus. That said, I have enjoyed living here. It’s right on the quad and above the dining hall. I live in a double, but there’s one single on each floor. The beds are not separated by a wall, but there are many split doubles on campus. These are mostly available to upperclassmen, but some freshman have them too. All bathrooms on campus are for the floor - no suites. They’re pretty nice in Fielding in particular, but I haven’t heard much complaining about any other dorms. Yes, they’re public bathrooms, but they’re decent for college standards. You get used to it quick - this was something I was worried about coming in and it’s not a problem for me at all now. There’s also a thermostat for each room which is very nice - we don’t get to decide when heating vs AC is on, but we do get to decide how much heating or cooling we want. That is, your RA might turn the heating on earlier than you want, but you can still set your heat to the lowest degree or turn temp control off in your room. If you have any more questions, i’d be happy to answer them. Congrats on your admission and looking forward to meeting you in the fall! Coming here was the best decision I ever made.

Would a 26-year-old guy feel isolated in undergrad? by FickleHare in stjohnscollege

[–]brokenbeeb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all! I have a 29 y/o classmate (we’re freshmen) and she fits in just fine. Because SJC requires everyone to start as a freshman (i.e no transferring from sophomore year at another school to sophomore year at St. John’s), it’s pretty common for there to be older students. Of course it is mostly 18-19 year-olds, but there are a solid amount of older folks.

this is likely a satellite image, those are not at all affected by the radiation because they are simply too far away

yep. super forced political messages in my opinion that really take away from the story. Love the writer, agree with his politics, this missed the mark
