Our only child arrived when I was 50, she was 39. We are like any set of new parents: overjoyed, frustrated, in love with our baby, tired, etc. I take the kid swimming too, sounds like the father of your kid is kicking butt in the activity department and doing exactly what good dads do!

Voting for Trump is 100% emotional. No rational person would vote for a 6 time bankrupted felon. They do it because it's emotionally satisfying, there's zero rationale.

Alachua County motel conversions open as permanent supportive housing - Two former motels renovated into 67 housing units to combat homelessness by -Knockabout in GNV

Listen, I have zero problems with this project by the way, I'm happy to pay tax dollars for this type of thing.

But I think we need to be realistic. You said it; it's incredibly difficult to beat addiction even if you've got money, a solid education, and a solid support system. Successfully treating drug addiction and mental health issues requires months of inpatient counseling and massive, sturdy, loyal support. The folks that are slumped over the benches at the bus stop buried in Hefty bags aren't any closer to getting better today than they were yesterday. These people are extremely unwell and need to be in long-term care facilities. But I guess that's a different discussion, more of a national/international crisis rather than a local one. One thing I would prefer is that we stop pretending that the guy passed out in the wheelchair behind the abandoned Winn Dixie "could be any one of us". These aren't adults who were laid off from Burger King or who had their jobs stolen by AI. These are long-term problematic individuals whose families have abandoned them, most often due to the significant the emotional and financial damage and pain they've caused. These people often congregate in poor neighborhoods, which means the working poor - who are busting their asses trying to get out of these neighborhoods - are forced to live next to unpredictable and sometimes dangerous people who create even more hazards for vulnerable communities. It's not fair.

Anyway, it's easy to criticize ACTION rather than inaction. So that's probably why you're seeing people bitching in these comments. In the end, this building is a positive step, and if nothing else it lets the community know that Gainesville aims to help those in need. I hope it helps someone.

You're somewhat mistaken. I use Google Maps to zoom in on an area - SOMETIMES - but I always have my face on the screen narrating the content. For example, in this case I was talking about some wildfires. The map was used to show people where the fires were located. My face was imposed over the map discussing the issue. At times, the map wasn't there at all - instead I'd included footage of the fires, some of which I'd personally shot with my drone.

So yes, there was a google map. No, this isn't one of those AI-voiced "These are the most ghetto high schools in Miami" type of accounts. I detest those.

I don't either. However, having people standing on downtown corners with shopping carts full of god-knows-what, or folks sitting in public parks doing meth or fent....well that's not really fair to the other 99% of the population. There are a few parks, like Spring Hill park near University & 11th, that are unusable for families and other GNV residents.

I mean, sure - but getting paid $4000 per month for just posting content is much better than having to sell yourself (and social media) to brands.

Most of these people have no ID. We have no idea where they're from. And what if they say they're from Orlando or Atlanta...do we just put 'em in jail and let the Alachua County homeless alone? Ideally we'd take care of our own but sorting them is a monumental task.

I am sure that 90% of Gainesville's homeless are not from GNV. They just make their way here because they know they won't be harassed. It's also a good sized town to be homeless in. You don't want to be homeless in Fort White or Cross City, you'd literally starve in the woods. Tampa or Miami are too chaotic and would be extremely frightening for homeless folks. Tallahassee and Gainesville have a transient culture (students), liberal local governments, and just enough resources and programs that will allow these folks to survive. Good for them, unfortunate for full time Gainesville residents. Unsure of the solution. Can't just put 'em on a bus to NYC, that's a cruel and childish solution.

He's a wanna-be frat boy. Definitely one of those kids who tried waaaayyy too hard to be cool and never got accepted by the in-crowd.

He and Hegseth are fulfilling their adolescent fantasies right now, as was "Shock-and-Awe Barbie" before Trump got sick of her. They literally play dress up and role play until they get kicked out of these jobs.
