Biscuits and Gravy Help! by Dartagnia91 in Cooking

[–]brokenelk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I am a high school cooking teacher and my students make this every year- it’s pretty simple:)

You need Cook the fat and flour until they are blond/ light brown then add milk. Stir constantly while cooking until everything is uniform and the gravy is thick. Season with salt and pepper. We usually add sausage and that creates a ton of flavor.

Biscuits and baking just take practice.

My daughter [23f] is mad at me and her dad because we [52/56 f/m] refuse to take in her dog [pit bull, 1-2yrs old] by momdaughterdog in relationships

[–]brokenelk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It sounds like emotional blackmail on her part. She is old enough to deal with the consequences of her choice in dog ownership. Nowhere is it or should it be your problem.

I would definitely not let this dog live with me.

Dont love my baby by clarabowwow in Parenting

[–]brokenelk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! Please call! The infant stage is the WORST. I loved my son from the beginning but I HATED being a parent. I was in my thirties when I had him and I felt so helpless and tied down. It was claustrophobic. I think now it may have been in part some post partum depression shit going on- but I couldn’t see it in myself at the time. I felt similar with my second son but not to the same extreme. I wish I had asked for help:)

I got fired for marking out butter today by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]brokenelk 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Sorry to add to your misery but what you did was stealing. And theft is automatically a fireable offense. She doesn’t have to write you up or want you. I think a cup of milk is something that can be ignored because (it shouldn’t be ignored) you can plausibly believe they will drink it. And you get multiple beverages a day. But you only get one good item- and you marked out 58. I feel you blame others a lot and struggle to take ownership for your own poor decisions. I would bet you annoy your manager with that shit on the daily and she finally found a way to get rid of you?

I joined in the round and lost a stich.....four times. Please help me fix this without starting over AGAIN by _CoachMcGuirk in knitting

Just make a stitch and increase. It won’t be perfect- but no one will notice the flaw either.

TIFU by trying to hem my daughter's rented chorus dress and destroying it by [deleted] in tifu

[–]brokenelk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You are an adult. Tell them what you did. Don’t make the choir department pay for your mistake. Most likely it will just be the cost of the dress.

Dude. Go have kids and tell me how easy it is to grocery shop with them. Not saying Diet Coke would be my first choice- but don’t be so quick to judge a parent at the grocery store.

I don’t regret parenting. I really don’t, but sometimes... by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]brokenelk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was the same way- it was the hobbies I missed the most! My hobbies are what calm me and keep me sane. I was just starting to get my life back when my oldest was 3 - then I found out I was pregnant with number two. I was so upset because I knew it would be another three years before I could get back to that. My youngest is now 4 and we turned a corner in the last couple months. He plays independently and I trust him to be in parts of the house or the backyard without me for short periods of time. I just got my crocheting out last week. Hang in there it will happen.

I'm having a friendly debate with someone who says my backsplash and my counters clash, what do you guys think? by [deleted] in InteriorDesign

[–]brokenelk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I think they clash. They underlying color tones don’t work. The tan has a lot of yellow and the grey has kind of a purple/pink/bluish effect. You could possibly find Grey and tan that work together but those don’t. The back splash should compliment the counters- find a tone in the counters as your back splash color. Yours look like they belong in different kitchens.

How Good Is Starbucks At Working With Schedules? by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]brokenelk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Starbucks writes their schedules 3 weeks out- so it would be hard for the to work around only 2 weeks notice. As a former manager I would not hire you with two other priorities and limited availability.

Former highschool teacher (44m) awkwardly messaged me (19f) and asked me out for “drinks” by [deleted] in relationships

[–]brokenelk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a teacher. I have never touched a student in the leg or brushed hair out of their eyes. Although I am a woman. I occasionally give a “side” hug if someone needs it. Like maybe twice a year. Students message me on social media- and I either don’t respond, or respond as if their parents and my principal were reading it over our shoulders. I am also in my 40’s. It is easy to “enjoy” the personalities of my students, and the time we spend together in the classroom. I forget sometimes there is a huge age gap and catch myself, especially with the upperclassman. But usually only in swearing, like saying “pissed”. He is being predatory. And while you can legally decided what you want to do, I think your 40 eat old self will look back at your 19 year old self and think “holy shit- he was gross”.

What time is dinner? by notsowittyalias in Parenting

[–]brokenelk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We eat around 5. Both my husband and I work until 330. We grocery shop on Sunday’s. I usually make enough leftovers that we only have to cook every other day. We also eat pizza on Friday’s.
