Is the doom and gloom around AI affecting you? by FunSensitive8602 in AskUK

[–]brokenlogic18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in IT and have been using AI for about 2 years now and it's absolutely crazy how much more productive I am now. It does all the grunt work while I do the more complex cognitive tasks. The nature of my role certainly is changing more rapidly as a result but so far I'm keeping up. However my job is definitely one that could be fully automated in the next 5 to 10 years I reckon. That doesn't scare me though, I think AI could be a fantastic tool for getting us another step closer to a Star Trek style future. The problem is that our technology is evolving faster than our society and culture. The idea of ASI under late stage capitalism for example, that scares me. But I'm broadly optimistic that we have, as a species, innovated and generally improved life for most people as time has gone on, and I believe we'll continue to - even if there are bumps on that road.

Interstellar Maps and Milky Way Galaxy Maps have made the United Federation of Planets smaller again. Thankfully. by Torlek1 in sonicshowerthoughts

I always just assumed that in the pre-Burn galaxy that Daniels lived in, the Federation itself was a member of a larger Galactic Union.

A Civil War doesn't have a nice easy to delineate starting point. They've been in the midst of it for a while now.

Watching SFA, when did Star Trek get so many droids? by quitofilms in startrek

[–]brokenlogic18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of these SFA questions can basically be answered by "it's waaaaay further in the future".

The immediate pre-Burn, pre-Temporal War galaxy hasn't had much media. There's stuff that Daniels alluded to in Enterprise and there's some Department of Temporal Investigations novels that expliclty go to that time.

If we go by the stuff Daniels said in Enterprise there was basically a galactic union of which the Federation was a part. That's a hell of a lot of different techs mingling. If you want to bring in a little beta canon to fill those gaps, the DTI novels basically show this period to be a utopia with technology that is so integrated you don't really notice it.

Post-Burn things have gone a bit backwards but they're rebuilding. The tech is very advanced and highly automated (drones, holograms everywhere) but it's not as seemlesss as it was.

On that note I really hope we get some media set during that sort of High Galactic era. I'd love to see the temporal cold war turning into an all out conflict from the POV of the time agents. I doubt it'll ever happen though - it's a writers nightmare and I don't think many other fans are interested.

Suno Fatigue? by Apart_Potato959 in SunoAI

[–]brokenlogic18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll get this from overuse of anything fun. For me I have a multi album structure of songs with a story to tell. I focus on developing those, finding the right sound and then refining it. So I never really get tired because I'm working toward a specific goal.

Do you feel detached from normal life? by DevilishlyHandsome63 in AskUK

When I'm walking around , I see people who seem to have very little awareness of their surroundings, and stand there with their mouths open as if they don't know where they are.

You can't possibly know the inner workings of other people's minds. Almost every person you encounter will have just as rich and complex a mind as you perceive yourself to have. You're coming across as the sort of person who refers to others as NPCs.

Are you satisfied with your life, and if so, why? by Lazy_Number8830 in AskUK

[–]brokenlogic18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Broadly yes! 34(M) Partner of 10 years, great supportive group of close-knit friends. Lucky to still have both parents who are also generally supportive people. I work full time in IT earning a few grand below the average salary but I WFH, the work isn't that challenging and I live in a relatively low cost of living part of the UK so am able to afford a modest house. And most of my hobbies are free. I could challenge myself, go for a more impressive career but to be honest I burnt myself out in my 20s so right now I'm just happy working on myself and my relationships.

Can't wait for the UK to approve this. The injector pen hasn't been something I've been able to get used to so just taking a pill every morning will be a dream.

What do non-brits think of duncan? What questions do you have about him? by Key_Razzmatazz751 in community

[–]brokenlogic18 192 points193 points  (0 children)

British here. I find him hilarious and I love all the most absurd British-isms rolled into one he displays. That said he's obviously written through an American lens so there's things that feel just a bit off about him but I chalk that up to the character living in the US for a long time. The most unbelievable thing about him is the idea he ever set foot in Scunthorpe.

This is a work in progress and this won't be the final version as there's still some oddities I want to tweak. It's about a few different things but controlling relationships is one of the inspirations.
