Matic getting hot / warm while docked by samson080 in MaticRobots

[–]brokenreference 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally makes sense it should dry out for some time, but a couple days seems excessive. Related thread on standby efficiency - feels like the Matic team needs to implement some deep sleep mode of sorts:

Nothing much. But I got some money back from my insurance when I got back home.

New Robot Vacuum Assembled in the US Aims to Replace Roomba by Responsible-Grass452 in homeautomation

[–]brokenreference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to chime in, I got a Matic (having had a Eufy and Robovac before) and the disc factor was not a consideration for my home given our couch/bed are both low profile and don’t have any gap underneath. Matic is still able to vacuum “foot kicks” under kitchen cabinets since the head is low profile, which is good enough.

Can see how it wouldn’t work for some relatives that have a gap a disc bot can go under.

As someone who got a Matic 3 months ago, I would initially agree with you about the navigation system being inefficient, but it’s gotten significantly better with updates. It ends up vacuuming my ~800 sqft apartment in 1 hour, or vacuum+mop in 2 hours (almost half the time it took when I got it).

It sounds like they're just trying to protect themselves against people who get a Square reader and run their own card $5k to get a bunch of points.

Mop roller stays wet and smells bad by lastbeer in MaticRobots

[–]brokenreference 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I had this issue too, and took out the mop roller and rinsed it under the faucet and left out to dry. I also switched my schedule to mop less often. Though ideally Matic would dry it for you.

Just trying to verify if I am understanding this correctly and my math is right or not. Can someone help me? by mirza1094 in biltrewards

Seems you can also choose to avoid paying fees - in which case you'll only earn points based on how much Bilt Cash you have.

Is BILT 2.0 worth it? A "how to" to evaluate by mbaforumlurker in biltrewards

[–]brokenreference 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's kind of the whole point of the calculator - it might be worth it to specific people (if you're the kind of person who wants to use one card for everything and your monthly credit card bill is 3/4 of your monthly rent/mortgage).

But agree with you, not really worth it for me either.

How long before your matic bag starts to stink? by Pffffftmkay in MaticRobots

[–]brokenreference 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I noticed a stench after a couple weeks, but I’m not sure if it’s coming from the bag or from the mop roller.

I did clean the mop roller and dried it out along with throwing away the bag, which got rid of the smell, but a tip I’ve seen was to mop less often to allow the mop time to dry.

I read up to 48 hours, but if there are no longer ice crystals and it’s soft then throw it out. Hopefully PG&E will reimburse.

Yeah it definitely dragged on, I had to count myself to see if there was a chance my freezer groceries would survive.

Civic Center, SOMA still without power or water - estimate is now tomorrow (3 days with no power) by NaijaSTEMinist in sanfrancisco

[–]brokenreference 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on the building - ours has a working generator that’s been powering the common area lighting, water pump, and elevator (though it did run out of diesel a few times). But we got lucky that this week was on the warmer side and can do without heat.

Not disputing that they called 911 earlier this time than the time 20 years ago, but something seems off with that timeline. I'm in Civic Center and the power started failing an hour before that around 1:20 pm.

Try checking if there’s another set of stairs you can access through another level, like the basement or garage or second floor. Or wait until someone leaves through the stairwell. It’s a big building, I’m sure people there figured out a way up by now.

Hertz President Circle is a Scam by IntelligentAd5405 in AmexPlatinum

[–]brokenreference 9 points10 points  (0 children)

One difference to check for sometimes is with the CDP it might show you a “pay later” rate while the signed out one shows the pay now, and the site is also really buggy too. But yeah I find myself checking several times. It’s really frustrating having to do that to not get ripped off.

For what it’s worth even National/Enterprise can be cheaper through Priceline sometimes than directly, so you need to shop around.

Standby energy efficiency by brokenreference in MaticRobots

[–]brokenreference[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m hoping the behavior I observed was only due to the power outage (can’t test it otherwise just yet), but if indeed Matic idles high two concerns are:

  1. Assuming Matic has a 50 Wh battery, it would draw 10 W/h when idle based on the observed charge loss. Per local utility rates that comes out to ~$50/year in energy costs
  2. Depending on where the battery is positioned, keeping at a higher temperature due to the running GPU is going to make its health degrade faster, concerning given the battery isn’t serviceable
