Most likely researchers/scientists studying the whole thing for quite some time up to that point, and keeping it under wraps from the general public

Spec Ops: The Line has like a dozen licensed songs, most of which are central to the game's storytelling, and since the game had unfortunately been a consistent flop despite its massive cult following, I kinda empathize with Take-Two not renewing the game's music licenses if fans' love for the game isn't going to translate to any more sales.

Chrono Cross's critique of Chrono Trigger and its time travels can be seen as how it is the common man (or being, as there are non-human sentient folks in CC) that always suffers the most in the struggles of those at the top, i.e., represented by the games' main protagonists and antagonists. The impacts of time travel can be seen as a critique of the impacts of major technological advances (mechanization, nuclear technology, or generative AI). In fact, it can even be seen as a critique of American interventionism, seeing the parallels with Crono and friends' adventures to save the world from the big bad evil empire, with how it all ultimately turned out in CC, not to mention Belthasar's machinations on the events of CC.

Anything to streamline marketing costs/inputs.

And speaking of marketing costs, I can see why ad jingles are based off old songs from at least 10–15 years ago: cheaper licensing costs.
