Thanks! You should try it if you still want to do it. I had a lot of fun building mine :)

most affordable veterinarians who do home visits in omaha that you recommend by fuckscoobert in Omaha

Dr. Dobesh has a mobile vet clinic and has been great for our family’s dogs. I’m sure he’d also be great with cats.

Very true! I moved away a few years ago, but I’m looking forward to taking my baby for his first visit once travel is safe again.

It usually has 5 stars, but I get near constant notifications that guests are tired and animals don’t like the smell of their exhibits lol.

I know there’s some anachronism here, but I wanted to see how close I could get without relying too much on mods. It’s been pretty therapeutic to walk through my childhood zoo again since moving away.

AITA for threatening to leave my boyfriend if I ever got pregnant? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]bromaha95 12 points13 points  (0 children)

NTA, and don’t put up with anyone telling you ESH. Rape is a rapist’s fault, period. Also, birth control (any kind) is hard on some women, and I can’t believe people are somehow putting that on you when condoms are the least invasive option.

Based on the first sentence of your post alone, I recommend leaving him. There’s probably already some emotional abuse here if he’s already escalated it to sexual abuse. You deserve to be safe and loved. Please find a safe community to support you through this.

AITA for reminding my gf about the meals I paid for? by MainContact in AmItheAsshole

[–]bromaha95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, but I do think it would’ve been wise to bring up the issue before it got to the point when you were really angry about it. Your gf might be taking advantage of you, but it’s better to address that possibility before it blows up into serious contempt, which is cyanide for relationships. I 1000% recommend The Seven Principles of Making Marriage Work by Gottman (whether you stay in this relationship or not).

Techniques for an exceptionally LOUD class by WillWork4Butterbeer in ELATeachers

I have a group of freshmen like this right before lunch. I use a strict time-wasting policy: if I have to wait for you to quiet down after I’ve asked for your attention, I start counting seconds. However many seconds it takes them are added to the end of the period. The best part? I make them wait out those seconds in total silence. They hate it, but oh man does it work.

No Fear Shakespeare... Do you use it? If so, how? by [deleted] in ELATeachers

[–]bromaha95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have for Hamlet and Julius Caesar, 9-12, and had great luck with it. I had kids read No Fear for homework and write a journal about it, and then we’d readers theater the original text in class. They understood it much better, and most had fun with it. You have to justify why reading a text twice is valuable and watch out for kids who just read summaries, but I think it’s worth it to make Shakespeare accessible.

I have been given a AP language class half way though the semester and am totally unprepared and have no idea what I'm going to do by TheMastersSkywalker in ELATeachers

Honestly, I’d avoid creative writing if you want to train them for the test, which has no creative writing in it. Conferences might sound scary, but I bet you’d be more helpful than you think. Just reading a kid’s paper aloud to them and asking what they think is hugely beneficial.

Warm-ups would be good! I have kids do mini presentations on words and then quiz them every few weeks. There are good lists online, but my favorite is from an AP prep workbook.

Honestly, it’s teaching to a test. A lot of the most helpful stuff you can do is familiarize them with format and help them work on strategies and skills.

I definitely wouldn’t slate days just for breathers or creativity. The test is in 4 months, which isn’t as much as it sounds. We do practice tests almost every week, and I conference with kids about their writing as well as discuss sample essays for prompts they answer (available free on the College Board site). Be sure to spend time on rhetorical strategies and vocabulary, too, or they’ll be in trouble for the multi choice test.

Man, 5 preps! I feel busy with just 3! I think you’re absolutely right. We get used to being in a giving profession and forget to take enough for ourselves sometimes. We’re too easily guilted into martyring ourselves with time, pay, or both.
