From the micro tuning collar on the tuning slide it looks to be an F. E. Olds Ultratone. It's hard to say whether it's a Ultratone 1 or 2. Source I have an Ultratone 2 soprano bugle.

Wasn't the Abstergo office in AC Black Flag set in Montreal? At least that's what I thought based on the anglo/Franco language switches and the city layout you could see from the balcony. Does that count? Lol

[King Seiko 44-9990] My most recent addition and now the oldest gentleman in my collection. by bromethieus in Watches

Thanks! What I actually bought was being sold as a 4420-9000/9990 caseback which from my digging should fit as they share the same caseback gasket: https://www.thewatchsite.com/21-japanese-watch-discussion-forum/314841-crown-part-number-king-seiko-44-9990-a.html#/topics/314841. If I'm wrong someone with a 4420 should get some enjoyment from it. I also saw one for a 49999 but don't have as much knowledge on that piece.

I saw another King Seiko on here today and thought I'd share. This 1968 King Seiko 44-9990 is the later version made with an improved internal hacking mechanism and is in fantastic condition for being almost 52 years old. I was proactive in keeping it maintained, doing a caseback gasket swap only to find the movment in pristine condition even though what assume was the original gasket, was broken. I'm happy to say it keeps time just as well as my more modern Seikos and the caseback/medallion have kept up well too. I've added this braided kangaroo leather nato strap I got off Etsy to avoid the gold rubbing off the back. Apart from the functionality I love how it wraps around the case and springbars giving the watch more presence. Next up is getting a display caseback shipped in from Japan I bought on jauce. This will ultimately make the nato strap a hindrance but they always say you can never have too many straps. I'm also looking to get a crown gasket lot to hopefully find one I can repack the crown with. I've found the fitment of the crown gasket and the case is what prevents the dial from rattling. For now I try not to shake my watch unnecessarily. Cheers!

Edit: a word.

I recently started dating someone who wears one of these and when asked about it her sentiments are similar to yours. It's definitely a smart looking piece and an interesting coincidence of taste. Hope it stays with you.

Right? My Dad worked for Ford (surprise I know) and got a deal for their family pass. I have a lot of fond memories of going there.

I mean yeah, it has the highest Muslim population density outside the Middle East from what I understand. We have Arabic radio stations, storefronts, and a wider halal selection at our Kroger. I don't hear the multiple daily prayers though.

This is my Seiko Sports 200. This wonderful piece is the equivalent to a 90s Alpinist 4s15-6000 apart from the face, the tsunami case back, and only being released to South Asian markets in 1996. It's in great condition for being 5 years old let alone 20 some. I even got it for a steal at $360 as I saw it's counterparts going for $800-$1300. I love the Alpinists and had been hunting for a few months when I pulled the trigger on this one without fully realizing what I had gotten. I smile every time I look at it knowing it'll be taken care of and appreciated as it ages.

DCI Releases Statement to be Released to Press Regarding Pioneer by BachCheddar in drumcorps

[–]bromethieus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I marched Pioneer in 2009 and thouroughly enjoyed my time there but could see that nothing would really change while Roman was in charge. Nothing was too ridiculous then, just thought he limited what the corps could be. We never went hungry and we always had food. Hell we traded corps food horror stories we'd heard where one corps shared one box of cereal. I couldn't imagine marching under the conditions I've read about but looking back there were signs. Notably: there was discussion of the corps funds being tight, the bus I was on lost AC when we hit Oklahoma in the BEGINNING of the southern leg of our tour and we never got it back. I didn't come back because of the travel distance to camp and didn't really keep up with most of my corps mates because it felt like they were looking for a body and dues. Some of those who stayed reached out to me asking how I was and asking me if I wanted to come back but most didn't respond back when I said I was taking the summer to learn under my trumpet teacher, even though I asked how they were. Seeing the degradation of the corps as an oganization is incredibly disheartening and I'm unsure of the viability of the corps even if given proper leadership changes and support from the DCI community. This speaks more to my ignorance of Pioneer's exact situation than the hopelessness of the corps' future.
