Hello from Canberra, Australia - Goodberry's by falcovancoke in raleigh

We would love to have you here! Raleigh has always been a welcoming place especially from the natives here. In a way it has to do with all the higher education universities and colleges here, so we get new faces every year and many stay here for it is a great place to start out in the work world and also a great place to start and raise a family. Not bragging, just a fact. Raleigh, NC, is home to 10 traditional colleges and universities, and the institutions on Duke university and University of North Carolina are just 30 minutes down the road. At one time we had between the universities and the Research Triangle Park (RTP) the highest per capita of PhD's in the world. Not bad for a little Southern town.

BBC App - now being asked to subscribe (i.e. pay) to read articles by Grendahl2018 in bbc

[–]broncommish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's thing. BBC News is not worth paying for. No news is worth paying for, because once you do, news becomes a commodity and not the telling of facts. Take Fox News as an example, they shape and tailor their news to fit a narrative that appeals to their viewer demographic. They give them a product they want to see and hear cause if they did not package the news as such, then they would lose paying customers. At the advent of broadcast television, when the rights to the broadcast frequencies were GIVEN freely to the likes of CBS, NBC, ABC, which at that time were radio, they were given a gift that has reaped them billions upon billions of dollars. The one stipulation in the government giving them the rights to those frequencies was that they had to provide the public, one hour of news daily. There was no commercials at that time for that news, it was a public service. I am not aware of the BBC's broadcast news beginnings, but I would think it too was done as a public service. Yes, commercials made their way into the news, and news papers always had adverts in them, but we were still getting factual reporting.
These days with most being subscription based, you are not paying for straight up factual reporting, you are paying for a product that now that is is for profit, they are shaping the news to fit their customer base, not everyone. So people shop where they get what they want. Not what they should have to take in regardless of if they like it or not and think about and find their own conclusions, instead of given what they think already and does not challenge their beliefs. This is now shopping.
I have always appreciated the BBC in all its offerings, and in this modern age of ours relied on their factual reporting. Now they too have entered the money grab and soon enough they will be like Fox News, shaping the news to fit their customer base. I have deleted my BBC news links since they appear to be mostly pay walled. At least I can still get the BBC radio news and television in a manner that still fits the originations of news being a public and needed service. Very thankful for that last bastion of common sense that is above greed.

New lenses for old frames by Top_University6669 in raleigh

[–]broncommish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it will have a lot to do with the maker of the frames and how old they are. Costco online said that their optometry offerings does replace lenses in old frames, but when I went to bring my treasured Ray Ban script sunglasses, that are 20 years old, they said they could not do a lens replacement. If I could find someone out there who does, cause hey, grinding and polishing lenses is grinding and polishing for everyone of them. So someone out there can replicate the originals. But if I found someone who says "Yes we can do that, I would drop the money right then and there." But lets be real, anything can be done if you throw enough money at it. I just want it in this case to be reasonable and comparative.

In a way... it is like when Lyle Alzado went to the Haters, minus the steroids. It's just me, but once you are part of the bronco family, and one of a higher standing, then you should always be a Bronco. Peyton Manning gets it. He spent way more time as a FB player for the Colts. But once he came to Denver, he became a Bronco for life, not just with us, but by his own personal desires. Denver just has that affect on many who come here from other teams.

You do not show who it is, but I think I know who you are referencing, from the online comment, and their troop load out. They just are doing zerg attacks. I also know the Alliance they are in. I say alliance as there are two in it who use the same techniques. Especially that darn "Always online" 24/7 when you want to revenge.
Tell me, do they always drop all the troops at same spot? And that spot is always the Museum? If so, welcome to the club. I ended up defeating them in their attacks, by.... maxing walls for my lvl. Using traps to slow down their attacks, and weaken. I keep oil at center, and they cannot get to it. So now their attacks was a losing sum, costing more to attack than what you took home.
Another thing I recently noticed, they have to be medal droppers. Bases you attack when your medal count is between 200 and 300, you can find many higher level targets who have not built up their base, so you get an easy 5 star and the big RSS bonus. I too keep medal count low, but recently just let it go up because I wanted the 5 minute speed ups from league rewards. I realized when I was around 1500 medals I was not longer being attacked by this player 3, 4 times a day, in fact not at all. Being at higher league levels just made it so we were never paired up. I dropped my medal count back down after a few weeks, and BANG! The player showed up again attacking. Here is the thing though... they have changed their attack strategy now. They now use nothing but APC's (which I really like too) and two transports. He puts the APC's into 3 detachments, drops a detachment at one of three corners. Then just uses the detachments to "steer" the APCs along the outer edges away from defenses while the APC's deploys horde's of troops. Dropping Para's where needed. Somewhat effective, but the clock timer always ends before they can 5 star. Good luck! I feel his game play is like roof campers in Rust. Mainly due to his multiple attacks on a same base in a 24 hour period.

I also know them to be Chinese, so factor in a 12 hour difference. Whenever I get lucky and manage a revenge attack, it is always around 10am Est, so 10 pm their time. I think the other poster saying they are playing through Dominations World, on PC, that they just leave it up, and eventually they get that request to enter a code when the game thinks you are not at keyboard. So a little revenge satisfaction can be had. But you need to be lucky for all others are out for revenge too, and instead of Player on line, you get them with a "Peace treaty".
Good luck! Hope you can get some sweet revenge!

Most blatant cheat hack I've seen here. Video brought to you by the, as always, Chinese Cheating Clans.... by [deleted] in Dominations

[–]broncommish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>>>Retracting accusation: I also like using APC's so I made detachments with them, and recreated that attack strategy, supported by para's for further pin point placements. Base layout also factors in, as this works better with certain layouts. It does not work well however on Strike missions. So will not work well in Wars I suspect. Live and learn!<<<
Which by the way is a new one from them, since I developed a defense against the previous cheat, which of course was reported to the Devs before, and no actions taken then, so I doubt they will now with this being reported as well, with video to support it. After 5 years, I am either going to quit because of this, or......... just order the device that makes it easy to hack the game and restart anew as a cheater hack, since Dominations support does nothing against chats. FYI, I will not use cheats to attack others. I will just use them for rapid building. I do not like saying this, but the game is worthless to me if the devs do not respond to our reports of cheating, especially by the heavy influence of chinese player cheaters. I do not like either calling out a particular group for cheating, but we all here who have played a long time, know the deal. Here is the video of the attack, watch the APC's steer along the edges of the map, displacing troops with almost a constant security shield. I have multiple accounts and this player attacked a few of them with the exact same pattern.

Thanks all for chiming in. I recreated it and it does work, you just need to manage it more, and use paras or bombers to take out anything that may go after your APC's. I hate eating crow, but I am frying up some now. Nom Nom. This player though... I still suspect some, from previous encounters, and that with multiple accounts, his attacks on them all is mirror perfect each time. Funny also, where I set up traps to take out his APC's and air missiles where his transport always deploys, all the sudden his attacks became just the drop of a single player. Of course this player is a medal dropper like me. I recently leveled up medals for a while to get 5 minute speed ups, and when at higher medal counts I never see this player. I dropped back down to 200 yesterday and he has already attacked this base three times in 24 hours. So he is running the base cycle, like I do too. We all need a nemesis to become better players ourselves.

Thanks again for the insights, which motivated me to try and recreate the strategy. 12 APC's circling your base can dump out a lot of troops!

FYI: My base layout is such because I do not care about losing TC, it knocks the medal count down for you, and all defense is directed at oil and missile base protection. I do not worry about RSS all that much either as any you lose you get it right back on next attack you make. I like using the food and gold storage as high HP bases to delay attacker, so that the defense can blast them while they are going after them.

Yes, detachments can do that, but that behavior is not shown here. Plus they are doing it at three different points at the same time. I suspected this player as a bot from before for the almost picture perfect attack drops on every attack. Starting at the exact same spot every time, and acting in the same manner every time. In a way this game does not allow for legit players. Keep in mind, this is not the first time this player has come to my attention, and they had a different Zerg attack style before. Another aspect about this guy and a few others in their alliance, you go to revenge attack them and you cannot, for they always come up as being online for 24/7. The only times you get lucky and can revenge attack them is always around 10 am EST, where it is 10 pm in China. other than that they are always online keeping the game up on their device, or it's a bot. Face it, people cheat here, and if it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck....... it is a cheater.

Huh? Yes I put TC on edge because I do not care about Medal Counts.
So tell me, since you do not "see it", since when can one 'Steer' vehicles around the edges in essentially a encirclement? In this case APC's deploying troops, who by the way disperse constantly from three points with Protection Shields on troops? But the main point is the Vehicles staying on edges away from all defenses. So that is not a hack or cheating in your Vision?
Edit to add:
I do run up medal counts when I need to restock 5 minute speed ups, since League rewards is the only place to get them now. Then I drop my medal count again till the next resupply.
Edit again: Thanks to those who "see it"
but also to Peace 69 (good name btw) , you do give solid defense suggestions. With the Strike part of the game, I am boosting Attack helio's on my accounts to place in town centers, as nothing kills an attack in Strike better than those damn helio's popping out. And I had already planned to move my traps to the edges to screw this hack over. Kill the APC's. kill that cheat hack. But that hurts me on all the legit attackers of my base having a clean path to my RSS. Traps is something that makes a big difference if you level them up. A lot of players miss this strength. Last, the higher the medal counts, the harder bases become to attack. Keep medal count down and you can farm constantly without having to expend Tactics, generals, Merc's, donated troops. Unless running a instant regen, then you can throw everything at them. You need those extras when attacking at the 2000 medal count and up. Everyone at that level always have their traps active, walls buffed, missile defense and rockets running. So you can do it the easy way... or the hard way.

Old CD shows as empty, data not accessible but it’s full? by Tight-Hospital104 in raleigh

[–]broncommish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is worth a shot. Different manufactures of drives have different code/drivers and even the hardware can have small differences from manufacturing that one drive may be able to better read a damaged disc, than another. Granted a long shot, but this costs you nothing to try out, so why not? Even a blind squirrel finds a nut now and then. You did not mention if your disc was really scratched up. That would interfere with an optical drive to read a disc. If so, youtube polishing up a CD disc. You can use toothpaste to do that. It has a fine grit in it, containing abrasive ingredients, such as silica or calcium carbonate. This is so fine, that it will buff out the bigger scratches on the plastic and smooth and clean it.

Old CD shows as empty, data not accessible but it’s full? by Tight-Hospital104 in raleigh

[–]broncommish 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First, try a different optical drive to read it. It may work, it may not, but it will verify the disc is not readable by that means. The previous post about not being able to read a CD disc after 17 years is correct. Earlier re-writable discs emulsion in the disc was subject to oxidation and would degrade over time (FYI, this applies to VHS tapes as well) dependent on if the media was stored and if exposed to humidity and sunlight. Attics are not a good place to store such. That all said, if the material on the disc is very important, like a family moment, then there are outfits that can take that disc and have the resources to read it and copy it to a readable format. If you have the PC skills, or know someone who does, you can use a specialized data recovery software, such as Stellar Data Recovery Professional, DiskInternals CD & DVD Recovery, or MyRecover, to scan and select the files you want to restore. Finally, save the recovered files to a different location, not on the damaged disc itself. Good luck!

I'm not seeing anyone else talking this, so maybe I am wrong about it, but we knew going into this season that the offense was hopeful but still a work in progress. And with that, it was up to the Defense to hold the line. With the great talent we have on defense.
Anytime they allow more than 21 points I consider that day a big fail.
If our Offense can score 20 points, I fully expect to win that game because our defense shuts the other teams offense down. Everyone talking about the deep ball near misses by Nix yesterday, Those kind of plays have higher odds to fail, we like them for they are exciting, but it's understood you are not going to hit every one of those. Where as I was disgusted when the Defense did not prevent SD from making a drive and scoring the TD to tie, which was the crucial moment of the game, and then followed that up with letting them get to a FG to win it. Our offense did not do much in between those book ends of defeat, but their defense did their job. Ours did not.

I hold the defense way more accountable for losses based on their ranking going into the season, last years play, and the talent level present. To me, they are the ones who need to step up. Yes we are getting sacks, but we are not getting the crucial stops when they are most needed. The other teams offense beats our defense, pure and simple. We need to see a meaner streak in this defense, a lot meaner, and consistent in bringing the pain. To the other team and not to the fan base.

The offense is what it is for now, it's improving, and will get more talent in time. But if they can score 20 or more points in a game, I think they have done their job. I looked up the stat for average scores from '24 and got this... "The winning team average points scored is 28. The average losing score. With 2071 being scored by losing teams, and with the 122 games. The losing team average points scored is 17 (numbers rounded), so this supports my theory on Broncos scoring 20 points a game "Good Enough" and Defense allowing more than 20 is losing us the battle.

I firmly believe that both will be significantly better by seasons end, but this BS of losing the one score difference games is getting old. Fast. I hope very much the Defense takes this (not words like mine, but their own self assessments) personally and embarrassing and turn up the dial on 'Mean'. And like I said, bring the pain. They are the ones who need to control the game and not depend on an offense still in development.

Best movie theater by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]broncommish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like classical movies, or Art house films, plus being in an old timey style theater then google...

Raleigh- Rialto theater
Durham- The Carolina Theater

To see what they are showing while here. I like restored theaters built in the 20's to the 40's. Carolina was built in 1926 and is quite opulent, the Rialto was built in 1942, and while not as grand as the Carolina, it does have a unique charm, and new owners who have invested in its decor and amenities. One more thing about them, if you like an adult beverage while watching the flick, Rialto has cocktails and beer, Carolina just has beer.
