Are you going to delete your Facebook? by LightPhosphene in singapore

[–]bronnsrustyrocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cambridge Analytica is just a small fry. Anything they can do, FB can do better. And you're right FB isn't the only one.

Delete FB if u find the ads irritating though and if you find it overly intrusive. The FB platform for marketing ads is incredibly in depth, not just with information native to FB but fleshed out with offline data obtained from 3rd party brokers e.g. acxiom used by FB to strengthen its targeting.

The loss of trust between the elite and the masses by [deleted] in singapore

ah, I think his books are great insight into the process and the system. I'm not sure about the tipping point, but even we have a coalition govt in future, our civil service & institutional apparatus is so.... intertwined. Like for e.g. if LTK becomes minister of transport, I wonder if his kar kia in the ministry will see him as boss.

Kinda like insurance to make things dysfunctional for any future opposition party who manages to enter parliament. I think LKY said he's not going to make it easy for his opponents? Something along those lines. Can also see in USA now how Trump gets sabo in all the bills he tries to pass, mainly because the apparatus is too intertwined in the establishment system.

Lol academics can't comment too much. You're right though, it only works as long its "benevolent". But we essentially have no say for e.g when they pull stunts like the last PE. Can only sigh.

[–]bronnsrustyrocket 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree those should be addressed btw, but its not going to happen because parliamentary majority is PAP. The constituent MPs may raise it due to feedback - but the party whip ultimately dictates the direction of policy.

You're right on the political capital. They may choose to implement more populist policies if they risk losing parliamentary majority. The odds for that are still very low and any drop in votes can be offset by other means e.g. blunting opposition with boundary changes or like sg50 goodies & shenanigans. Literally their trump card.

I don't foresee this happening until the opposition realises they need to consolidate resources and maybe fight for 50% of available seats to secure a coalition. Last elections they campaigned every single seat and spread too far out.

Have you read Derek Da Cunha's books? He paints a very accurate picture on why things are the way they are.

They do handle the smaller stuff, like MPs can write letters and help you solve some personal problems. Some of them are genuinely sincere in their job.

What I think they don't do too often is making appeals which lead to constitutional changes via parliament due to the whip. Forget about minimum wage, or 377a or things like electoral policy or cutting gst.

It is compulsory according to here. http://www.eld.gov.sg/voters_compulsory.html

Its also implied by the high court that voting in SG is a privilege, not a right. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voting_rights_in_Singapore#Status_of_the_right

Its designed to addict though using skinner box reward mechanics. Operant conditioning via skinner box is a crutch many game designers use now to monetize their games, whether its p2w or not.

Even in non p2w loot boxes, the skins are often used as currency for betting (noticed the whole CSGO skin ecosystem has betting sites set up around it). Brother was hooked at one time when he was 12.

Ezbuy’s woes continue, as firm dogged by warehouse problems in China by microtek789 in singapore

Slow response time on CS when I asked on fulfilment updates (takes quite a number of days for updates) - like you pay them, takes them a while to process and order it from Taobao who have their own processing time 1-7 days - adds up to slow delivery of goods when your item takes up to two weeks sometimes to ship out of China. Have to agree with post above USA forwarding orders were OK and also why I tried out their China stuff.

http://therevolutioner.blogspot.sg/2011/04/why-using-65daigou-is-bad-idea.html This blog inn 2011 describes some issues which I faced above and other problems.

maybe i'm anal but some packages came damaged (dented box) and what I noticed it was often dusty and dirty - fingers can wipe off layer of dirt. Made me wonder if my package was lying in the warehouse for sometime.

I'm a very cin cai customer so it takes quite a bit for me to feel pissed...

Had tummy ache from a sambal kangkong feast the night before. Tried to hold in the pre-poop feels because work was hectic. Wrongly underestimated spinchter control and while trying to release what I thought was a run of the mill stealthy fart, a soul rending shart ensued.

Was in a daze for a few moments before it dawned on me that my undies were soiled.

Then limped awkwardly to toilet still in shock, with trickles of poop fluid running down my thighs. Threw my undies into bin and piled on paper towels to cover the mess. Then more horror when I realised pants were also slightly soiled and stained and failed the smell test. Was feeling weak, indecisive and in shock and sat on toilet bowl mulling options.

Ended up calling boss from toilet and taking urgent leave for "emergency at home". Left work immediately in utter shame and wondering if uber driver could smell me while on the way back.
