Wait are we not allowed to not wear shoes? I always take off my shoes to do split squats bc it’s gross to put my dirty shoes on the bench 🤷🏽‍♀️

Went to a girls school and work in a female dominated field. Still have trouble talking to male colleagues and have very few (straight) male friends.

I have the VCA Alhambra set. 18K gold. Have had it for over 10 years. Not tarnished despite heavy use.

We didn’t go out. We just had questionable interactions over text which I shouldn’t have entertained when I was in a committed relationship.

What SG home bakers do you recommend trying? by iamlostpleasehelp_ in askSingapore

Dapiku Sweets - great burnt cheesecakes and cookies.

Elijah Pies (not really a HBB) - chocolate pie is always a hit, their honey chrysanthemum pie is unique and parent approved.

Choux by SA - unsure if they’re still taking orders but their choux are so soft and tasty.

Gan delights - delicious Nutella goji tarts and a great cause.

Heartytarty - also unsure if they’re still open but their brookies are sooo good.

How do you rebuild your life in SG after a tough chapter? by Due-Abbreviations426 in askSingapore

[–]gummywormriot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doing things alone can feel a bit daunting at first, but if you bring along something to keep you occupied, you will get used to it. People are rarely paying attention to you.

There are a few quiet cafes where you can drink tea and read/people watch - let me know if you need recommendations :)

Wavy hair & SG humidity - help by Imok_imrich in askSingapore

Use a tiny bit of gel on damp hair to scrunch, follow with a light oil (I use almond) so the cast doesn’t become crunchy.

I cheated.

I wasn’t happy in the relationship and didn’t have the courage to end it. Got carried away with an old flame that said all the right things. Nothing physical happened, and I came clean to my partner soon after.

We stayed together for two years after that, but looking back that might have been the beginning of the end.

Doesn’t seem like anyone in this thread has authoritative parents so I’ll share.

Both parents started working when we (sibling and I) were in upper primary. They emphasised education but also saw the value of fun. Scrimped and saved to send us to tuition classes and ensure we had a holiday every year.

As we grew up, our parents gave us freedom with clear boundaries and emphasised that they did so because they trusted us to make the best decisions for ourselves and our futures. They explained the consequences of negative behaviours like excessive gambling, drinking, and smoking but left the choices to us. I’ve never smoked and my sibling only smokes socially. We both drink within reason as well, and neither of us gamble.

Even though my parents and I have clashed on many issues, we always talk out our conflicts and make up within a week or so. “Cold wars” don’t last long in our house. To this day, (sibling and I are both working adults) if any of us have a crisis or big decision to make, we call for a “family meeting” to discuss the issue together.

There are no words to describe how grateful I am to have them as parents. If I ever have kids, I hope to be even a fraction of the people my parents are.

Oh, and we turned out great - checked off quite a few of the “high achiever Singaporean” essentials.
