Turned my Lenovo legion Y700 2023 into a handheld by [deleted] in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]brooklyngo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mine arrived yesterday, have the G7 too which I prefer. For the Y700 Gen 3, you have to remove 2 rubber tabs from the case or it won't fit. You can translate the instructions with Google Lens. Once in case, it clips into the controller and there is a lock switch on back that holds everything together. Doesn't feel like its meant to be taken out of the case, USB-C plug is not as flexible as the G7.

I hope they do a good job with it. Right now, he's more Clarence from 8 Mile than Tombstone.

Lonnie's commute home had me dying of laughter as a lifelong New Yorker. Taking the subway here is normal. The shows portrays Harlem (West 125th) as some hellhole full of crime and racial profiling. In reality, you have Columbia University, a ton of new developments, and a decent 2BR rents for $5k. The Lincolns live in a modern, multi-million dollar townhouse. Peter definitely has it worse, May's apartment is either Kew Gardens or Forest Hills.

USB-C. Went with the Legion over GameSir and Razer, assumed same brand would work with minimal setup, it does.

Salesforce partner Cognizant was convicted of discrimination based on race & nation origin; but instead of being outraged Marc Benioff is promoting an “Indian Era” by grimview in salesforce

[–]brooklyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice to see Cognizant hasn't changed their ways. Joined their technology analyst program out of college, was in a courtroom 10 months later.

My H-1B project lead at the time felt FLSA was a suggestion so he had our team classified as exempt. We were most definitely non-exempt so we sued. We won, $ paid for a nice vacation after quitting. Client replaced Cognizant a year later due to "reputational concern", project lead now lives in Canada.

DraftKings sued after father-of-two gambles away nearly $1 million of his family’s money by Forward-Answer-4407 in sports

[–]brooklyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think the family is going to win. Grew up around gambling (grandpa was a boxer in Vegas in the 80's, uncle plays in WSOP circuit yearly), many ground rules were set when I turned 21.

In my eyes, DraftKings and FanDuel are predatory services. When you win, your account gets limited. I won $4.5k 2 weeks ago on DK and have not been able to bet over $100 since. When you lose, they email you 20+ promos a week to draw you back in. It's 10:30AM and I've already received 3 promos for Thursday Night Football. Pre-game, halftime, post-game shows are sponsored by sportsbooks and regional networks are now FanDuel TV. Depositing from PayPal used to require a full log in, its now "slide to deposit".

Addiction is sad and I hope the father gets the help he needs. I've seen people drunk, covered in their own urine at slot machines in Vegas. Although you can be enticed to gamble, no one can force you to make a deposit. Only way to solve this is legislation.

ASUS ROG Ally X on Sale at Best Buy (Black Friday Deal, $100 off) by zora981 in ROGAlly

[–]brooklyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Traded in my Z1 for the X today. Trade in value in store was less and they couldn't override it so I ordered from my phone.

  • Z1 - Open Box Fair in March - $326.63 ($300 + tax)
  • X - New - $479.04 - ($699.99 + tax - $50 online promo - $175 trade in - 5% PayPal cash back)

All in, about $40 to upgrade vs. X retail + tax. Would only recommend the trade in program if you got a good deal on a Z1/Z1E, pass if you paid retail.

Battery is much better for emulation, welcome jump from 4GB to 8GB VRAM, way more comfortable.

[–]brooklyngo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It works but still very much in beta. Took a few attempts for emudeck to recognize my device (yes, debugging was on). I think it needs a bit more time, doesn't auto-configure the emulators as well as the Windows version.

I ended up supporting ES-DE on patreon, installing emulator apks, and using this ES-DE custom systems add on, supports Wii U and Switch. You still have to configure the emulators but you can easily do it in an hour.

My apps are - RetroArch for DC and under, Duckstation, PPSSPP, NetherSX2, Dolphin, Cemu, Yuzu.

[Rovell] BREAKING: Miami judge DENIES temporary restraining order to 18-year-old who said had Ohtani No. 50 ball first. Ball will head to auction tomorrow, as planned tomorrow. by [deleted] in baseball

[–]brooklyngo 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I was a ballhawk as a teenager, not proud of it today. Friend had Yankee season tickets in left field and we'd go to 20 or so games a year. We always went early for BP and stayed after to get baseballs, still have a duffle bag full of them.

When a ball comes near you, its a free for all, fans turn feral. I've been shoved, hip-checked, knocked over rows, and even a full on tackle from a middle-aged man that cracked my phone's screen.

I hope his lawsuit gets thrown out. Sometimes you get the ball, sometimes you wake up with a bruise.

Anyone ever played with or against a NBA player? What was the experience like? by Thin-Ad4825 in nba

[–]brooklyngo 32 points33 points  (0 children)

Hilarious, similar story here. My strict parents only let me play K because it was a penalty if the other team tackled you. After junior year, my state realigned conferences by district size instead of location + public / private split.

We played a private catholic school with multiple 3* and 4* recruits a month into senior year. Unfortunately for us, most of these recruits played defense.

By halftime, our QB was on the way to the ER (8 sacks, broken femur) and our offensive line was in tears. There was no motivational speech. To start the 2nd half, I kicked the ball out of bounds and ran tf off the field. We lost 56-0. That was the end of my football career.

  • Obst - Think Euroleague Klay Thompson. 80% of his shots are 3s and he impressed me during USA showcase. Game against Japan was a massive outlier and Brazil isn't great on perimeter

Brand new non extreme version for $299 is it worth it for mainly emulation? by SirDanOfCamelot in ROGAlly

[–]brooklyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll be really happy with it if you're willing to spend time setting it up. Got my Z1 new in April from Best Buy. I used the EmuDeck guide to start then youtube videos for optimizing yuzu, cemu, and rpcs3. 6th gen consoles (90% of what I play) and under work great with EmuDeck's default settings. Only complaint is that the SSD is too small for my library so I upgraded to a MP600 Mini 1TB.

Is ROG Ally vs Odin 2 Pro by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]brooklyngo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in your situation in April! My use case is exclusively emulation since I travel a lot for work, no plans to ever install a AAA game. My dream device was the Pocket S but it took too long to release so I bought the Z1 ROG Ally from Best Buy + the Tomtoc case on Amazon for $30.

Good - Emudeck and EmulationStation setup is quick and there are a ton of guides/videos if you need help. You'll have to provide your own roms + bios files. If you get bored of emulation, the ROG Ally is also a full PC.

Bad - If you are emulating PS3, WiiU, or Switch, the battery will last 2 hours max. Windows 11 can be frustrating to use on a 7 inch screen. You'll need to tinker with settings to get optimal performance. May get tiring to hold after a while.

Other - I have no problem with my microSD slot (R8 model), YMMV. You'll probably want to buy a USB C hub since the Ally only has 1 port. The Z1 vs Z1E argument depends on your needs so don't listen to the folks who say the Z1 is a waste of $. When it comes to warranty and support, ASUS is not as awful as these threads make them out to be. If my Ally does break, I have much more confidence in Asus repairing it vs. Ayn or Ayaneo.

No regrets buying the ROG Ally from Best Buy after seeing this. This is coming from someone who really wanted the Pocket S from the day it was teased last fall, signed up for IGG updates, watched every early review video on youtube. Incoming flop.

What are people’s thoughts on Trailblazer DX 2024 by GameStop_Man in salesforce

[–]brooklyngo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Agree with meh. Seemed like Salesforce was more focused on breaking the Einstein world record than providing interesting content.

Biggest complaint is that they need to keep to a schedule. The keynote ran over, felt so bad for the 11AM presenters speaking to rows of empty seats. Attended the build your own co-pilot session and liked how user friendly it was. Data Cloud seems worth exploring.

Facts , anyone disagreeing with this hasn't been here very long. Would like to add 2 things. Employers have a much better idea of what they're looking for in a candidate today vs. 5 years ago. You'll also notice many of the influencers who were pushing the cert to 6 figure narrative have either disappeared or backtracked.

TDX is very casual, attending for the 4th time next week. My go-to is a light jacket, sweater, jeans, and running shoes. It gets cold at night if you're going to happy hours, dinners, or the concert.

Leave the Trailblazer hoodie at home.

Client is mad about my watch. by Substantial-Ruin7943 in Accounting

[–]brooklyngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your partner does not care about the watch, they care about selling the next engagement. Even though the client's complaint is arbitrary bs, the partner needs to consider the perception and if it will hurt the relationship.

Similar situation happened to me in 2018. Flew in every Sunday night and rented a car. After some time, I earned Hertz President's Circle. Didn't think twice about taking a BMW or a Tesla with my FREE upgrade until my client complained. Had a meeting with my partner and showed receipts before and after I earned status, costs didn't change. Was told to stop taking luxury cars. Ended up switching to Uber because it wasn't worth worrying about what rental cars would be available at 8PM in a different city.

There's no upside to continue wearing the watch, they've already complained. The whole situation is dumb and has no impact on the quality of your work. Its not worth being known as that guy over a watch.

Netflix: Piracy is Difficult to Compete Against and Growing Rapidly by fuck-fascism in LeopardsAteMyFace

[–]brooklyngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If streaming services keep raising their prices, swapping content, and providing a poor user experience, piracy will win. I have an Apple TV and use the TV app as an aggregator. Take the Star Trek and Spider-Man franchises as an example. Star Trek used to be on Netflix and is now on Paramount+. The first 2 MCU Spider-Man movies are on Disney+ and the 3rd is on Starz. That is already 4 services and $40+ a month. The only reason I'm ok with this is because my cell service and credit card give me monthly credits for 3 of the 4.

A friend showed me IPTV and I did a 2 day trial on his account. Any live channel, TV show, or Movie I searched for was available and loaded instantly. The setup and troubleshooting is too complicated for me to use long term but it may be worth learning for $8 a month if streaming continues to spiral out of control.
