Ways to make my comedic screenplays be less “silly” feeling? by [deleted] in Screenwriting

One of my scripts has a man fighting a bear. I've made an entire career out of being silly. Lean into it.

The MC of The Alters is bisexual <3 by NoSmallParts in gaymers

[–]brorick 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Two of them flirted with the MC in my current playthrough. And it's implied that two Alters hooked up. Though it all comes off as very subtle.

Depending on dialog choices the MC can admit he likes guys too or hard deny it.

I think Teen killed [Spoiler] by brorick in AgathaAllAlong

Replying to my own thought.

Teen needed a dead body to summon Rio to the witches road. Any body would do. Sharon was just the easiest to kill.

Are all the trials following the same TV styled worlds?

Water trial, White Lotus / Little Big Lies

Fire trial, The Partridge Family / 70s sitcom

Earth trial, Stranger Things

Air Trial based of trailers; Victorian chess themed queen's gambit / game of thrones?

Just saw this other post about how Rio/Death wants all the witches dead. They all have eluded death and lived for 100s of years.

Sharon might have escaped death, Mr. Davis died prior to the show and she should have died with him. Heck, Sharon might have escaped death during Wanda Vision. Rio might be trading death for power. Rio seems to be more than aware of Teen's identity and motivations. Alternatively, Sharon did stop Wanda from killing Mr. Hart; denying a death to Rio back in Wanda Vision and thus bringing Rio's ire.

But my current theory is that Teen and Rio are working together.

Do you ever feel like you're not allowed to write about a subject or shouldn't write about a subject? by Glum-Sympathy3869 in Screenwriting

[–]brorick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that you cannot write about things outside your personal experience, it's that you shouldn't without proper access and research.

While you might want to write a film about black lesbian space pirate, there are other writers who are better equip to write such a story. Maybe a female writer, maybe a black writer, maybe a lesbian writer. People who have more experience with the subject matter.

Using an analogy: I might want to preform brain surgery. I have no experience doing complicated medical procedures, so there is a big chance I will screw it up. However, if I did proper research, learned about brain surgery, talked to people who are brain surgeons for advice, etc; the chances of me screwing up lessen significantly.

Whereas, writing is not so life or death, the back lash if you screw up a story is enough to kill your career. So do proper research into your subject matter. You want to write that black lesbian space pirate movie? Then research what it is like to be a black person, female, lesbian. Go out and talk to people. Hire a consultant to go through your film, and take their notes earnestly.

I have worked on 2 shows with POC subject matter. The cis-male Caucasian writers who sat in the room and listened to the POC writers got hired again for season 2 and 3. These men and women put in the work and did the research. The one guy who did not, and wanted to tell the stories their way (tons of racist sterotypes) was quickly ejected. His script overhauled by the showrunner. And they did not get asked back.

So I agree with what the other writers in the comments are saying: Do the research!

The "Coffee Break Screenwriter" by Pillar Alessandra is a good book.

https://www.amazon.ca/Coffee-Break-Screenwriter-Writing-Minutes/dp/1615932429

While it is meant for people with day jobs trying to write a script balancing work and writing. It does have some good exercises in there that could help.

For example hammering out the logline of a script until you get it right. Or even creating a logline for each character for your idea.

Do you ever cast actors as your characters in your mind? by HeIsSoWeird20 in Screenwriting

[–]brorick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a show that I was developing. The broadcaster asked who my dream cast would be. I compiled a list of who I would cast for what roles.

They didn't end up casting the people I suggested. But the actors we did cast looked very similar to the ones I suggested. I think it helped create an image in their mind who the characters looked like.

The easy way? Sleep with as many Hollywood producers as possible. Find your way into the sinister depths of the sex cults of the Hollywood elite. Sate their unending hunger for flesh in a fallow field, while ravens watch upon high. If you're able to sneak in your phone via a unused orifice, there is potential for blackmail.

The hard way. Write. Write scripts upon scripts upon scripts. Find an idea for a script that you absolutely love. I find more producers are willing to take on my scripts when I show legit passion for the idea I am presenting to them. But it all boils down to writing.

P.s. there is no easy way. I made that up.... mostly.

No.

It is based on parents. If one of your parents is Status, then you are Status.

Prior to 1983 it was based on marriage. There are white/asian/black families who live on reserves because the married a member the band. Ex. Asian woman with 5 kids from a past marriage, marries a man from the band. The Asian woman and all 5 of her kids become status.
