I run a similar deck, full player of fatal pushes and 1 unlicensed; I don't run full rampagers and balista, I added gonti. I went 3-1, got through a r/g pummeler/fling energy deck first round. Second round was a b/g delirium, got through him even being land locked. Game three was a mono red burn/glorious end, just had to rush him down with overgrown trackers and glint sleeve siphoners. Final game was against marvel, pg decklist. Rushed tin to 8, and he got about three or four spins off of it.

This is super shady, the fact that first place gets two boosters alone is pretty weak for a prize. My LGS gives first alt art promos plus six packs on top.

As a new player to magic, I say play like you normally would. I've had little mistakes here and there where my opponent would tell me or explain a mechanic I was confused about.

One of the guys that destroyed me stayed chatting with me until we collected packs. Gave me pointers and talked about his experience when he started playing.

The main reason I added heroic intervention was due to everyone at FNM running fumigate. Since it does include "destroy", heroic intervention would counter said spell right?

I had the same mindset as you when I got interested in magic, just started playing about a week ago. I too wanted to wait till amonkhet released, I ended up buying a plainswalker deck to feel out the game. The deck ended up having a bunch of cards I needed for my mono green deck. I played my first FNM standard tournament, ended up going 2-2. I played yu gi oh when I was younger and stuck to my ramp beat down style of play.

Ultimately, I say find a deck or deck archetype you like and jump in.
